So do you prefer a standard AR-15 GI system to a piston driven system, or even an AK for that matter? I own both but don't know which one I want to standardize for my SHTF plans. I need a little convincing one way or the other.
@JERMBUGS gas piston systems are a solution without a problem. Unless you are running suppressed, what's the point? Even if you are running suppressed, it's not that much of an advantage. I trust direct impingement and have owned both. Who cares if the bolt gets hot on a DI gun vs. GP? Again, solution without a problem. One just gets dirtier in a different place. With modern quality ARs (DD, LaRue, LMT, BCM), you'll never have a problem if you run them wet (lubed).
@theroadwarri0r Reason for my questioning is because the Army is currently running trials for the next Military Carbine. The manufactures in the running are Colt's new gas piston AR-15, H&K's gas piston AR-15, Adcor's gas piston AR-15, FN SCAR (gas piston rifle), and Remington's ACR (gas piston rifle). And just before the trials started, many of the head military leaders were bad mouthing the M4 DI. Defense Review is rumoring that the new rifle to win will be an AR-gas piston.
@theroadwarri0r Thanks for the responses. I guess my point of asking is, if the military thinks the DI system is no longer adequate, and a gas piston system is the way of the future for the military rifle, do you agree? Or do you think that it would be a good idea to switch over to the newer gas piston system since our military will in the near future? Or would it be better to stick with the commonality of the current system and parts until a new system in standardized?
@JERMBUGS Sorry for not being more clear originally on my question. There just simply is not enough character support within video responses for an in depth question and response.
@JERMBUGS I like DI guns, and I've owned both. YMMV. Again, watch the nutnfancy video on this subject and make your own decision. It's an all-inclusive video outlining the pros and cons of DI vs. Piston. Good luck.
@theroadwarri0r Thanks for weighing in with your experience and comments. I value what you do and say here on YouTube and your blog. I look forward to your next video. I will spend the next little while watching the suggested video about Piston vs DI Dilemma.
I'm kinda a fan of a shotgun. These days you can have a 100 slug but most of the situations are going to be under 30 yards. = shotgun.
I have an 30-06 that kills deer at 200 yards .
I do like the AR and am on the fence. Ammo was hard to get for a while. I have a great opportunity to acquire an AR through work (cheep) so it might be a good investment before I retire. Your right a pistol is nice to have but I'll hold a long gun in defense any day.
dasdew2 is right. Assault rifles are select fire. so full auto or burst fire. the normal ar-15s we civilians can buy are just regular semi-auto rifles.
The AR-15 is NOT an "assult weapon ". M-4's ARE " assult weapons " becuase they can be fired automatically or in burst fire. Unfortunately the gun control crowd has many people thinking the we as Americans can buy "assult weapons " off the shelf.
I agree. ARs are semi automatic rifles at heart. You don't call a semi auto .22 squirrel gun an assault rifle. The only thing ARs have extra are durability and possible tactical rails.
What is the useable range on a laser site? We didn't have them on the M14.
As to the SHTF I'd think like in Yugoslavia it would be first priority to locate among your own ethnic and political group. Red people should make their next job move to a red state if they are currently living among the Blues.
And as Thom Chittum wrote in Civil War II, move to a small town and make friends there now.
my wasr has not failed me once, ammo is CHEAP and reliable. i realize its not as accurate at longer ranges, but its inexpensive and easy to maintain. I have fired it in the rain and seen people try and fire their AR's and fail, shot it in winter as well. On tight budget i would recommend an AK.
@311gc situation is, the grid goes down. Pitch black. You can only be so effective in blackness their is always a need for a flashlight at some point. Also some lights are used "flash" to stun a target when breaching, as well as hide your silhouette and weapon just like when you get pulled over by a cop and they shine a light directly into your mirrors. If you are truly worried about concealing yourself then you should invest in night optics and infrared but those too, run on batteries :)
Economic collapse psh, don't be stupid that could never happen. We all know that the biggest threat right now is the upcoming zombie Apocalypse. Either way, you've got a good setup. I have to get your address in the event of. I can't hold onto spam for longer than a week until I cook all of it for breakfast.
@dasdew2 Sorry, It's classified as an assault rifle. As for your other very elementary statements, I've never disagreed. Not sure why you thought you needed to post this. Another video gamer that think's he knows something about guns because he plays Halo or MW2.
@dasdew2 wait, are you trying to correct someone? As for the verbiage, jargon, and lingo you're spouting off I think most people are capable enough to do the research on their own instead of having it rehashed in a pretentious manner. Regardless of any of it I wouldn't go around correcting someone for saying bullet or clip since its easy enough to decipher what they mean.
@yamirbhatt to each his own kid, as for looking ugly who the hell cares It's 100% about functionality not cosmetics. The only excuse to paint a weapon is obviously camouflage and even then you better be sure you want it that way, and do a damn good job sealing it. The OEM paint is tactically low glare and anti reflection for a reason. Not something you want to put a shiny coat of glossy black pearl paint on and become a signal mirror.
@123dreez ASSULT RIFLE ARE FULLY AUTOMATIC,THE SEMI AUTOMATIC AR-15 IS JUST A RIFLE
im sorry it just that those things get gun lovers mad,any who i can help you make a WROL( without rule of law)/ SHTF( shit hits the fan ) plan and help you with fire arms basics like being able to tell the diffrence between a 1911 and a glock,i really have spent a large amout of time doing this myself and learning how to live if SHTF.
@123dreez just about any army navy surplus store will sell you MRE packs. If you are looking for New affordable guns try cheaperthandirt, centerfiresystems, and slickguns. If you want to buy used then support your local gun shop, or armslist. lots of great rifles tenderly babied that just need a new home. If you want to play around with cheap accessories and dont want to spend a fortune on the real deal then try dealextreme >gun and laser section
ak is a real mans weapon it might not have the accru like the ar or m4 because of the wieght and big round but its the stopping power that counts when you have a hoard of people or a secured target in convoy ...you can still have accru and not take down your target that's why you assist with a hand frag because accru weapon didn't
stop the target or targets = recommendations from second Korean war vet
get your self a 7.62x39 or a full size 308 cartridge fire-ring weapon memo= the objective is

AR = so many moving parts +plus have to keep in tip top shape like a m16 for good accuracy +not reliable to simple people in survival sit but its a great hunting gun for a person who know how to maintain it properly i would recon a
Russian black 30. cal AK 47 the most simplest assault rifle none to man
most reliable assault rifle in the world in all weather conditions snow heat rain mudd under water nuclear waste i garenteed this weapon will still fire
it would be ideal to get a gun with ammo that not a lot of people have because when you go to the "store" to get ammo. the 556, 223, 22, and other more common ammo well be low or non but with getting a gun like 5.7x 28 or 30 carbine or even ten mil but the down side is that if you stumble upon people with ar's (223) you wouldnt be able to share ammo =(
@RTgrunt114 They sell sealed ammo for a reason. You can typically buy bulk ammo sealed in a spam can or drum. I buy my 9mm, and .223 by the 1000 since its the standard price break. I always have a spare 1000 on hand and sealed and since I go through so much ammo within a year I can always rotate the 1000 and not let it get stale. If you are A true conspiratorial theorist then you most likely have your own reloading station and a bag of spent brass, primer, and powder on the whim.
The AR-15 is only a civilian version of the m4/ m16 but the very first " m16 " made in the late 50 early 60's was called an ar -15 but today that is all the ar is i would personally prefer a much more simple build like a mini 14, mini 30 but i have a m1 carbine nice simple weapon
Mine is a Sabre Defense carbine too. Good reliable gun. And you're right, you don't need to put all the toys on it. A good optical sight and a flashlight mount is all I;ve put on mine. Done away with the collapsible stock and went with the old reliable.Take the abuse better. Great video!
@Patriot7476 Mines a Rock River Tactical Carbine. I have about 2500 rds of assorted .223 and eighteen-30 rd GI Surplus mags. The only after market product on my RR is a GI Surplus sling bought at the gun show for six bucks.....
@theroadwarri0r sorry, I guess your terminology is correct.......(94 Assault Weapons ban)
1. The term assault weapon is a United States political and legal term used to describe a variety of semi-automatic firearms that have certain features generally associated with military assault rifles.
2.An assault rifle is a selective fire rifle that uses an intermediate cartridge and a detachable magazine
.........according to the Government which created the term although inaccurate and deceiptful.
@N2thedrink "assault" is such a viscous word anyway. Not sure why its paired to civilian weapons anyway. Like saying mass murder rifle, homicidal rifle, kill all babies rifle whatever scary word the liberals want to strap on the front of it. Pretty sure if gets a second term he will start labeling Crossman, "Assault bb guns", "Assault Red Ryder lever action", "Assault potato gun", and even "Assault Derringer" just to take them away from the youth.
@theroadwarri0r Probably in regards to you calling it a battle rifle. My understanding is an "assault weapon" is a rifle chambered for any of the "assault" cartridges, 5.56x45mm, 7.62x39mm, etc. Whereas a battle rifle is chambered in full rifle catridges, 7.62x51mm, 7.62x54mmR, 8mm, etc.
Semantic difference perhaps. Arguably means nothing, since if you shoot someone with any of those rounds they're still dead.
@theroadwarri0r Think that his nice way of saying you are unaware of that which you speak. The definition of an assault rifle is it MUST BE capable of automatic fire. Therefore any weapon that is not capable of automatic fire is NOT an assault rifle. The AR-15 or civilian version of an m4 is just this. You will notice that most of the so called "assault weapons" ban items have nothing to do with the rifles function such as folding butt stocks and flash sups. and barrel length and mags. cont..
@theroadwarri0r@theroadwarri0r That's because politicians deem this as something that makes an "assault rifle" This ignorance combined with the public's and news outlets calling everything that has the body of an AR or AK an assault rifle fucks us all over. You can take any hunting Deer rifle that's legal to own in most any state, slap a body kit on it to make it look tactical..now its an assault rile. According to idiots that is. People get pissed about that. And now you know....
@theroadwarri0r ok tell me how......im not trying to troll or nothing but lets say somebody brings the fight to us....yea you have a ar stlye weapon but after how ever many rounds your gonna have to clean it.specialy from those military rounds....and if you dont your gonna hear a click, then the guy who was smart who said hey im getting a ak47 is gonna gonna hear that then what.....you better pray togod your side arm works....cause the guy with ak.....his gun works all the time
@thatgirl0819 because I own both platforms and I'm telling you both are reliable. M-4 (AR) is more accurate and more modular. AK is heavier. I prefer M-4. I'm qualified to give my opinion because I actually own both of them and I'm an experienced shooter. You don't seem like you are very experienced and are just proposing theoretical data based on nothing.
@theroadwarri0r well the modular part is true on the AR but you can make a AK modular(kinda) they are both great weapons, and ive shot both the AK felt more shaky, and heftyer than the AR(saber defense in my case)the ar was more accurat and shot smoother.
I really would like a fire arm like this. Where can I get one?
I'm also looking for an AK-47 or AK74 Carbine as well. I've stocked up on some silver, and knives thus far and now looking toward firearms then actual survival gear.
Is it also possible to get these guns that have a 3 round burst?
@NemesisPrime1989 Your first weapon should not be an "assault-stlye rifle", it should be a 12 gauge pump shotgun. Look at a Mossberg Persuader/Remington 870HD/Winchester 1300 Defender.
3-round burst is legal only if registering the weapon with the federal government and the process and weapon itself will be extremely expensive, (and you don't need it). Not to mention, you plainly know zero about firearms. You have no business around such a thing. Start off small and work your way up.
@NemesisPrime1989 You've entered into the wonderful world of the Survival carbine question. Some will lay down their lives to defend the honor of the AR and trash the hated AK style rifle. I have both, and unlike some have said there is nothing magical or advanced about these rifles. The AK type are easy to use, easy to maintain, plentiful ammo, very rugged and forgiving of mistreatment / harsh environments in some parts of the world 11 year olds are able to effectively employ this weapon.
It is expensive but well worth the money. I would recomend a Acog, thats what I run 4x32 TA31F both fiber optic and tritium vial. I will recomend a ARD of some sort to help cut glair on really bright days. The Acog has the best glass I have ever seen, not even a US OPTICS 3x12 could beat it. The best thing about Acog NEVER NEEDS BATTERIES!!!
@ghostslut9870 I'm not an expert but I don't think there is any real advantage to piston ARs. They just get hot and dirty in different places than the non-piston ARs. I've never had a reliability issue with either type as long as they are made by good manufacturers (BCM, Daniel Defense, LMT, etc). Who cares if the bolt doesn't get hot? Sounds like a piston AR solution WITHOUT a problem.
@theroadwarri0r piston AR's have advanatages in certain situations, most notably a supressed SBR. Not everyone will run a supressed SBR, but if you do, pistons run MUCH cleaner in the receiver, and you don;t get combustion gases in your face.
I just noticed your note edit where you mention a commenter refers to it as an assault weapon. We were taught that in order for a weapon to be legitimately called an assault weapon, it has to have a selector switch that provides more options than SAFE and FIRE. Options like SINGLE, 3 ROUND BURST, and FULL or AUTO.
In my original SIG556 video, I keep referring to the rifle as an assault weapon when it isn't.
It's a personal pref thing for most, but wanted to add what we were taught. Great Video.
It NEVER ceases to amaze me, that ppl like "carl16760" have no idea what is really going on. "The Fed will fix this"...?!? Congress violated the law to create the Fed, and in turn, the Fed created this mess, which our resident congress of evil works in conjunction to exascerbate , even facilitate our economic downfall. Is it THAT hard to see? Are ppl THAT dumbed down? These examples of oblivious sheeple are terrifying....
@needparalegal your so smart.....sometimes you really need to identify a target. Someone may get drunk and lost trying to get into what they think is their home. Or someone may need help very badly trying to get your attention. You just don't go off shooting because you feel the need to see the power you may poses. In an all out battle you need night vision not that flashlight to give yourself away...Owning a gun is a responsibility. don't get cocky and kill your best friend on accident!
You can't go wrong with either system, a Yugo or Arsenal AK would be great. A piston AR would require a little babying but ok if properly maintained. Both weapon systems are good, just really depends on the role. The actual range you would be engaging in is so close it completely levels the playing field so either the AR or AK would be adequate. The AK will just keep on rolling even when abused, a Arsenal AK is accurate, powerful, and reliable. To each his own though.
i think a stock robinson arms .223 XCR is the best choice for post apocalyptic survival. most accurate and durable semi auto assault type 5.56 that i know of , it accepts ar mags, grips and can be converted to like 10-15 calibers in 2 minutes. integrated picatinny rails all over.all functions, cocking safety, hammer is all done withought taking finger off trigger or sight off target and ambidextrous.very light
I have seen with my own eyes literally an hour after the flood closed the bridges the lone grocery store was emptied. Becasue American are used to having everything RIGHT NOW... this is what is going to kill millions within the first 3 weeks... and elite will not be able to control things as they planned. Canned Food and ammo will be a thing of the past, your gunpowder for reloading and all you supplies will dwindle... unless you have a sulphur mine in your back yard too!
Another excellent video bro still combing thru them all but I always find some interesting pointers/advice in your videos and comments I'll have to get more on my side of fence only one up now is a sort of goof off one lol, Keep up the great work my friend
“Patriotism is just loyalty to friends, people, families.”-Robert Santos
The AR is a little apocalyptic. I don't really think things will go that far. Remember its the Fed Reserves game and somehow they will fix this economic mess in time. The biggest and baddest tool we can have is humanity, civility, amongst ourselves. we need everyone to prepare themselves mentally for what just may happen as we have crossed to many borders. Military suicide! United We Will Stand. Just everyone keep your heads screwed on and let the authorities take away the animals.
@carl16760 - "let the authorities take away the animals?" What if the authorities are the animals? If you went to your phone and dialed 911, how long would it take the authorities to respond? If the answer is more than 2 minutes, you are already dead by the home invader. I don't rely on the so called "authorities" to be responsible for my security because legal precedent has found that they are not. The AR is not "apocalyptic." It's a semi-automatic rifle. The FED will fix this? hahahaha!
@theroadwarri0r If the authorities become the animals it would mean we have gone into extermination mode. What I really meant was to stay off the streets when the SHTF, stead of running around like the fools in Katrina. I don't count on the cops to come save my butt either bro. Bushmaster, Wilson/Remington, Sig, and Glock!. Either the Fed will fix this (a prayer bro) or try to exterminate. Doesn't seem a welfare state is possible, their broke.
@theroadwarri0r Amen. The government is not here to pamper us or keep us safe. They're just here to lead. Same with the police, they're not here to protect us, they're just here to mop up dead people and maybe arrest someone.
@theroadwarri0r what is "semi-automatic" vs. "automatic"? To me, automatic means as long as the trigger is held, rounds are coming out. So what is semi then?
@bigdogITbiker semi-auto means for every trigger pull you get only one round fired. If you are from China as your profile states, welcome to my channel.
@bigdogITbiker It's a really big truck without a manual transmission, sorry just trying to lighten things up.My choice...........A DPMS Panther Arms CLSS in .308 calibre (Yeah I'm a Canuck,we do have a shitload of guns up here too,no shortage on any ammo.CLSS= Canadian Long Range Sniper System)
@theroadwarri0r I was trying to be somewhat civil about this shitstorm. the country is falling apart and now all these wars cooking.WTF. What if the authorities are the animals? Oh, I know all to well the whole freaking story...this is escalating into some scene ayy bro?You take a mortal man and put him in control..Black Rain, One, ect.You practice your 3 gun?got your gas mask? may not be needed.May only need one bullet for when your skin starts falling off as they move toward world domination.
@labartic Oh I know the score...hope for the best/expect the worst! You are close = "these psychopaths!" actually even worse/more like "evil" would cover it better! The real "Heavy Weight Title Fight" is coming more ways than 1......
@carl16760 While this is true, some humans will turn savage, (LA Riots, Katrina) and it's best if we are ready for them. I say get whatever weapon you know how to use well, and buy ammo and spare parts. But personally, I prefer AK's
@BlueCollarSurvival The stark reality is, is that the prepared will live the unprepared will die. Far too many people have been conditioned to believe the government will come the rescue in times of trouble. The urban centers are so reliant on supply sources hundreds of miles away that these would be decimated.
@BlueCollarSurvival The urban centers will be swamped be mobs of despirate people. Invision the movie "28 Days Later" with living people replacing zombies. If you are able to get a gas tank away you are a month away from mobs on foot. Have route planned on secondary and terciary(sp) roads.
The Fed has no intention of fixing anything, they want to create this crash and then utilize emergency powers and usher in a police state and in the long run a NWO. The authorities always will harm the wrong people, they disarmed the free people during Katrina. Your living in a dream. We need to unite yes but the fantasy that the Federal gov is going to save the day is crap.
Just some advice, the gov lies every time they open up their mouth. Look at the Wikileaks story. The gov is just a bunch a puppets working for war mongering fascists.
@RyanR3volution Advise...R U pulling my leg? Puppets...yes yes might be Builerburg, Rockafeller, might be rabbit. War mongers hmmm why war mongers....as to what use really are they....hmmmm might be population and economic control....might rabbit! Might just be subs parked on both sides of our country....might..we may have crossed to many borders...might rabbit....parked in everyones backyard with our military....what other advise you got for Mr. 101 over here?
Well Big war is big money, its common sense, that money that is spent on war will benefit a select powerful few. The US empire is completely out of control and so is big gov. We need to restore this country to the Constitution.
@RyanR3volution The pricks already got so much wealth they already own the dam planet...how much more do they need? restore to the constitution. Man that ship sailed. Someones going to go into launch mode and we won't need to worry about constitutions and FEMA camps....
@RyanR3volution isn't the U.S. empire the same as Big government..ya know, just asking...and the constitution doesn't have anything to do about 20/30million jobs. jobs that this place was built on that are freakin gone. they pissed around with health care over a year and all it was, was a stall tactic for some reason, because the biggest part of the problem is unemployment...every job loss is another potential foreclosure and that's why the housing is still in trouble now.
@carl16760 IF you saw what went down on Black Friday 2010... you got a small taste of what levels people will stoop to when there are $200 laptops for sale, now imagine no more little comforts like food in the grocery stores, electricity to heat and boil water, water from the tap and police to keep you safe.
@HopllyteAlpha your preaching to the choir. By the looks of things we may actually get blown up well B4. Why are they not concerned about the Mexican border. the Fed has the ability to control job flow...and we have no flow. why......because they have bigger fish to fry...and were all in grave danger...think I'm wrong? the provoked holocaust. been saying it...people say no...no. so many people have sense death in the air for some time now...I'm starting to believe it's way worse than suspected
@carl16760 Im not the betting type... but if I had money on what "MIGHT" happen... Id say China and Russia crash the dollar... let the USA tear itself apart in WROL... then pick up what ever is left over. Without contaminating the land and resources with fallout and not having to deal with the masses of people... thats of course if I were to put money on it.
@HopllyteAlpha I see all possibilities arising...and none of them are any good. Kind of makes sense now why they don't care about the border. Why the Fed is not creating jobs I hear they have the power to do. No I don't think it will be Nukes. Either EMPs or Neutrons from the subs sitting off each coast right now. were in big big trouble here like this country has never seen. The Cold War...ha.
@carl16760 I thought of the Nueutron bomb and bioweapons... but I think China and Russia know what the US bioweapons are capable of... granted they could do the same to us... but I think China of all coutries would be the most severely hit. Strategically speaking mass is always the most important thing to take into account. But you have to provide logistics and supplies to that mass... and if your population is wiped out on either side... you loose your mass.
I love my AR-15 and it has lots of "lipstick" just like yours. It's my go-to rifle if sh*t ever does hit the fan. But I've been worried about China for years. Once they've sucked our economy dry in a few years, I'm worried they're going to come for our resources. If they invade here they outnumber us 3-to-1. Last I heard they primarily use AK-47's chambered in 7.62x39. THAT is why I also own an AKMS. It's good to have a weapon that shoots the enemy's ammo, so you can take ammo from their dead.
@gblpst81 the Chinese got new rifles with a newer caliber designed for better armor penetration (5.8x42) which they would likely need if they were to fight US or Russian troops. even the Russians use a lighter caliber now as well, 7.62x39 is still used more than any other round but not by major military forces.
Everyone has their own setup and idea of what's ideal. I use a Burris 3-9x scope with the P.E.P.R. mount. I like to keep the hex wrench needed for this scope in the Magpul grip. I also keep a broken shell extractor and spare extractor in the grip since I shoot mostly Russian ammo. I'll probably never need any of this stuff but this is how I equip my M4(gerys) and in an emergency I hope to get the gun running again.
but still love the AR15, It's more about going out and having a good time at the range kind of weapon (AR16).. Now! the AK47 is the i want too get shit done type of weapon. haha, But it all really depends on the person
@xenomorph856 The ACR is an overpriced gimmick like most new military style weapons. no sense in spending around $2,000 for a rifle that only does the same stuff an AR does with some new bells and whistles. You can easily build an AR that will perform just as well as a ACR for $800 less, which you can then put towards a quality optic or put towards any other AR type improvements or small parts like a bolt or extractor etc. which are plentiful on the market unlike ACR parts.
@MaddDawg42 True, but the highlight for me, was that you can switch out barrels for better accuracy, better close quarters ets. You can use an ACR for everything.
@xenomorph856 Yeah the switching out barrels is a nice feature, but it is not a feature exclusive to the ACR. AUGs have a simpler way to switch barrels and a STG556 goes for about 14 hundred. If that's not your thing even ARs can swap their uppers. Max effective range of a m16 A2 is about 550 meters, for a M4 it's 500 meters, you really aren't sacrificing much range or accuracy with a 14.5" barrel, but if you were to get a 16" barrel the difference is even smaller.
@xenomorph856 If someone want's to pay big bills for a "tacticool" rifle more power to them, but a $2,000 price tag isn't gonna make you shoot any better. I'm just trying to help a young shooter out. Some times the price tag doesn't always mean you are getting something a lot better and if all you are going to do with it is plink, you don't need anything better than a standard AR or AKM. But don't get me wrong if I had $3,000 dollars to blow I would consider getting a ACR just for fun.
thats a nice ar-15 my dads is kinda set up like that but im going to go with a LWRC m6a3 once i save up the money i like them more then a regular ar-15 due to the gas piston system itll make for less cleaning and jamming to worry about if the sh*t actually hits the fan great vids
Good video. In the event of a total economic collapse there will be roving bands of starving, degenerate thugs going town to town preying on the unprepared. You will need more than a handgun to defend your home. I own a bushmaster xm15...fun gun to shoot. I consider it a hedge against my investment portfolio going to $0. God bless America.
I own both an M-4 and AK style rifle aswell, though I'd choose my ElCheapo AK in an actual emergency situation. No matching the AK for accuracy against my M4, but punching nickel sized target groups at 300 yrds rarely, if ever, is applicable in a defensive situation. I just feel more secure standing behind my .30 caliber tank. Ugly, mean, indestructible. But I do have a fondness for my 5,56mm "ferarri". Though the 5.56mm is really an underestimated defensive round. It works, if applied correctly
I own both. AK-47 and M-4. I'll take an M-4 any day over an AK-47. M-4 is my primary platform, and my back up is the AK. Which of these weapons do you own and shoot regularly?
@theroadwarri0r I own neither but from every experience i had in the military the AK is a far better AR than any other apart from again in my experience the Steyr Aug. Whats your military background? I dont mean that in a im trying to prod at you way just interested how you made your conclusion and do you own an AK?
@MalvinMcpot The reason i ask do you own an ak is that your conclusion baffles me the m4 that i fired in Sudan was an ok assault rifle and the ak fired just as good as it but the one key descision maker in my book is the ak's all round toughness and endurance in the field under intensive use. The Ak 47's and 74's we gathered on patrols were the rifles we fired and the fired as if new and they had never been cleaned ever lol. i also fired the sa80 and a famas while over there both on the level.
@MalvinMcpot and another thing the famas was a bit of a design nightmare but all four fired the same as in accuracy and comfort but only the ak stood out as a weapon id want by my side in a madmax post apoc world
@theroadwarri0r lol not arguing with you just wanted to explain my previous comments and a shotgun is still a better backup weapon but a ak with mounted shotty o man the dream gun
@theroadwarri0r Why not have a longer barrel like a 20" one that the M-16 was designed to get the 5.56/.223 up to the velocities that it was intended to yaw and fragment when it impacts?
I undoubtedly have less firearms experience than you, but look at it this way, ammo will be of limited availability. Why not increase the lethality of your primary weapon, all the while increasing your effective range for the compact 5.56 round by adding very little weight and bulk to your original load-out?
@NastyChuck the use of 75gr and 77gr bullets provide increased fragmentation range for 16 inch barrels. You could also always load some fragmenting rounds yourself.
@NastyChuck That extra weight may not seem to be much for a couple hours at the range but try lugging it around all day for days on end. Try running that longer barrel from a vehicle, or in a building. In most situations, especially in urban scenarios, a 14.5" (M4 length) is more ideal. Unfortunately this free country really isn't free and that is considered to be a SBR. The benefits of a short barrel generally outweigh the benefits of small increase of velocity and energy.
@NastyChuck if Roadwarrior would be so kind to let me throw my 2 cents in on this issue, 20 inch barrel model ar's are excellent weapons, But the weight vs the pro and cons of the weapon are up for grabs, In other words if any an "Urban" enviroment I would go for my 16'' model over my 20'',Due to less weight more maneuverability, therefore more precise shots and placement I have no problem hitting a 6 inch target at 200 yards with iron sights with my 16'' center mass is greater then that.
Why not an ak74? ammo is cheaper than 5.56x45 nato.I THINK it might be lighter than 5.56x45 but im not sure so ...idk 5.45x39 compared to 5.56x45 and you get ak reliability :]
not vary deadly huh lol. the 22 long rifle cartridge like i mean the little small game pleeker round is responsible for more gun related deaths in america every year than any other caliber lol and were not even talking about a full size 22 caliber 223 round. yes it lacks in knock down power but not in deadliness know before you speak.
So do you prefer a standard AR-15 GI system to a piston driven system, or even an AK for that matter? I own both but don't know which one I want to standardize for my SHTF plans. I need a little convincing one way or the other.
JERMBUGS 1 month ago
@JERMBUGS gas piston systems are a solution without a problem. Unless you are running suppressed, what's the point? Even if you are running suppressed, it's not that much of an advantage. I trust direct impingement and have owned both. Who cares if the bolt gets hot on a DI gun vs. GP? Again, solution without a problem. One just gets dirtier in a different place. With modern quality ARs (DD, LaRue, LMT, BCM), you'll never have a problem if you run them wet (lubed).
theroadwarri0r 1 month ago
@theroadwarri0r Reason for my questioning is because the Army is currently running trials for the next Military Carbine. The manufactures in the running are Colt's new gas piston AR-15, H&K's gas piston AR-15, Adcor's gas piston AR-15, FN SCAR (gas piston rifle), and Remington's ACR (gas piston rifle). And just before the trials started, many of the head military leaders were bad mouthing the M4 DI. Defense Review is rumoring that the new rifle to win will be an AR-gas piston.
JERMBUGS 1 month ago
@JERMBUGS I don't see why that would be a reason for to ask me to convince you. Watch this video and make your decision watch?v=6auXTiqNtEo
theroadwarri0r 1 month ago
@theroadwarri0r Thanks for the responses. I guess my point of asking is, if the military thinks the DI system is no longer adequate, and a gas piston system is the way of the future for the military rifle, do you agree? Or do you think that it would be a good idea to switch over to the newer gas piston system since our military will in the near future? Or would it be better to stick with the commonality of the current system and parts until a new system in standardized?
JERMBUGS 1 month ago
@JERMBUGS Sorry for not being more clear originally on my question. There just simply is not enough character support within video responses for an in depth question and response.
JERMBUGS 1 month ago
@JERMBUGS I like DI guns, and I've owned both. YMMV. Again, watch the nutnfancy video on this subject and make your own decision. It's an all-inclusive video outlining the pros and cons of DI vs. Piston. Good luck.

Assault rifles are select fire. so full auto or burst fire. the normal ar-15s we civilians can buy are just regular semi-auto rifles.
helpmefindmyalias 1 month ago

And as Thom Chittum wrote in Civil War II, move to a small town and make friends there now.
philwhite1942 3 months ago
my wasr has not failed me once, ammo is CHEAP and reliable. i realize its not as accurate at longer ranges, but its inexpensive and easy to maintain. I have fired it in the rain and seen people try and fire their AR's and fail, shot it in winter as well. On tight budget i would recommend an AK.
Biocide84 3 months ago
@311gc situation is, the grid goes down. Pitch black. You can only be so effective in blackness their is always a need for a flashlight at some point. Also some lights are used "flash" to stun a target when breaching, as well as hide your silhouette and weapon just like when you get pulled over by a cop and they shine a light directly into your mirrors. If you are truly worried about concealing yourself then you should invest in night optics and infrared but those too, run on batteries :)

AR-15 stands for Armalite, the company that made it then the desing was sold to colt and they made the M16 and thats why they have the same desing
its called a maggazine not a clip(clips load maggazines and maggazines load rifles)
its called a cartrige( i say round ) not a bullet ( a bullet is the projectile)
its called a rifle not a assult rifle (assult rifles give the option of being fully automatic)
real gun safety is following gun safety rules not just turning on the safety.

Not something you want to put a shiny coat of glossy black pearl paint on and become a signal mirror.

it would be ideal to get a gun with ammo that not a lot of people have because when you go to the "store" to get ammo. the 556, 223, 22, and other more common ammo well be low or non but with getting a gun like 5.7x 28 or 30 carbine or even ten mil but the down side is that if you stumble upon people with ar's (223) you wouldnt be able to share ammo =(
RTgrunt114 6 months ago
@RTgrunt114 They sell sealed ammo for a reason. You can typically buy bulk ammo sealed in a spam can or drum. I buy my 9mm, and .223 by the 1000 since its the standard price break. I always have a spare 1000 on hand and sealed and since I go through so much ammo within a year I can always rotate the 1000 and not let it get stale. If you are A true conspiratorial theorist then you most likely have your own reloading station and a bag of spent brass, primer, and powder on the whim.

N2thedrink 10 months ago
@N2thedrink huh? What exactly are you saying? I must be confused.
theroadwarri0r 10 months ago
@theroadwarri0r sorry, I guess your terminology is correct.......(94 Assault Weapons ban)
1. The term assault weapon is a United States political and legal term used to describe a variety of semi-automatic firearms that have certain features generally associated with military assault rifles.
2.An assault rifle is a selective fire rifle that uses an intermediate cartridge and a detachable magazine
.........according to the Government which created the term although inaccurate and deceiptful.
N2thedrink 10 months ago
@N2thedrink "assault" is such a viscous word anyway. Not sure why its paired to civilian weapons anyway. Like saying mass murder rifle, homicidal rifle, kill all babies rifle whatever scary word the liberals want to strap on the front of it. Pretty sure if gets a second term he will start labeling Crossman, "Assault bb guns", "Assault Red Ryder lever action", "Assault potato gun", and even "Assault Derringer" just to take them away from the youth.
naireland 3 months ago
@theroadwarri0r Probably in regards to you calling it a battle rifle. My understanding is an "assault weapon" is a rifle chambered for any of the "assault" cartridges, 5.56x45mm, 7.62x39mm, etc. Whereas a battle rifle is chambered in full rifle catridges, 7.62x51mm, 7.62x54mmR, 8mm, etc.
Semantic difference perhaps. Arguably means nothing, since if you shoot someone with any of those rounds they're still dead.
jks2389 7 months ago
@theroadwarri0r Think that his nice way of saying you are unaware of that which you speak. The definition of an assault rifle is it MUST BE capable of automatic fire. Therefore any weapon that is not capable of automatic fire is NOT an assault rifle. The AR-15 or civilian version of an m4 is just this. You will notice that most of the so called "assault weapons" ban items have nothing to do with the rifles function such as folding butt stocks and flash sups. and barrel length and mags. cont..
pac6010 6 months ago
@theroadwarri0r @theroadwarri0r That's because politicians deem this as something that makes an "assault rifle" This ignorance combined with the public's and news outlets calling everything that has the body of an AR or AK an assault rifle fucks us all over. You can take any hunting Deer rifle that's legal to own in most any state, slap a body kit on it to make it look tactical..now its an assault rile. According to idiots that is. thatgirl0819 10 months ago
@thatgirl0819 because I own both platforms and I'm telling you both are reliable. M-4 (AR) is more accurate and more modular. AK is heavier. I prefer M-4. I'm qualified to give my opinion because I actually own both of them and I'm an experienced shooter. You don't seem like you are very experienced and are just proposing theoretical data based on nothing.
theroadwarri0r 10 months ago
@theroadwarri0r well the modular part is true on the AR but you can make a AK modular(kinda) they are both great weapons, and ive shot both the AK felt more shaky, and heftyer than the AR(saber defense in my case)the ar was more accurat and shot smoother.

I'm also looking for an AK-47 or AK74 Carbine as well. I've stocked up on some silver, and knives thus far and now looking toward firearms then actual survival gear.
Is it also possible to get these guns that have a 3 round burst?
NemesisPrime1989 1 year ago
@NemesisPrime1989 Your first weapon should not be an "assault-stlye rifle", it should be a 12 gauge pump shotgun. Look at a Mossberg Persuader/Remington 870HD/Winchester 1300 Defender.
3-round burst is legal only if registering the weapon with the federal government and the process and weapon itself will be extremely expensive, (and you don't need it). Not to mention, you plainly know zero about firearms. You have no business around such a thing. Start off small and work your way up.
Maat922 1 year ago
@Maat922 When I got to the end of your 'advice' I decided you were a simple minded jerk. So I'll clear up a few things for you.
1. I already own and maintain a 12 gauge pump action shot gun. So I already have a my first fire arm.
2. Asking questions doesn't mean I don't know anything.
3. I've handled an AK-47 before. very effective weapon.
4. Don't assume someone is stupid for merely asking questions. Lord knows you asked the similar questions when you entered the market for such guns.
NemesisPrime1989 1 year ago
@NemesisPrime1989 You've entered into the wonderful world of the Survival carbine question. Some will lay down their lives to defend the honor of the AR and trash the hated AK style rifle. I have both, and unlike some have said there is nothing magical or advanced about these rifles. The AK type are easy to use, easy to maintain, plentiful ammo, very rugged and forgiving of mistreatment / harsh environments in some parts of the world 11 year olds are able to effectively employ this weapon.

Sounds like a piston AR solution WITHOUT a problem.
theroadwarri0r 1 year ago

BlueCollarSurvival 1 year ago
@BlueCollarSurvival The stark reality is, is that the prepared will live the unprepared will die. Far too many people have been conditioned to believe the government will come the rescue in times of trouble. The urban centers are so reliant on supply sources hundreds of miles away that these would be decimated.
Robbob9933 1 year ago
@Robbob9933 Agreed..but some preparation can be made my people in the city.
BlueCollarSurvival 1 year ago
@BlueCollarSurvival The urban centers will be swamped be mobs of despirate people. Invision the movie "28 Days Later" with living people replacing zombies. If you are able to get a gas tank away you are a month away from mobs on foot. Have route planned on secondary and terciary(sp) roads.

@carl16760

Well Big war is big money, its common sense, that money that is spent on war will benefit a select powerful few. The US empire is completely out of control and so is big gov. We need to restore this country to the Constitution.
RyanR3volution 1 year ago
@RyanR3volution The pricks already got so much wealth they already own the dam planet...how much more do they need? restore to the constitution. Man that ship sailed. Someones going to go into launch mode and we won't need to worry about constitutions and FEMA camps....
carl16760 1 year ago
@RyanR3volution isn't the U.S. empire the same as Big government..ya know, just asking...and the constitution doesn't have anything to do about 20/30million jobs. jobs that this place was built on that are freakin gone. they pissed around with health care over a year and all it was, was a stall tactic for some reason, because the biggest part of the problem is unemployment...every job loss is another potential foreclosure and that's why the housing is still in trouble now.
carl16760 1 year ago
@carl16760 IF you saw what went down on Black Friday 2010... you got a small taste of what levels people will stoop to when there are $200 laptops for sale, now imagine no more little comforts like food in the grocery stores, electricity to heat and boil water, water from the tap and police to keep you safe.

@HopllyteAlpha your preaching to the choir. By the looks of things we may actually get blown up well B4. Why are they not concerned about the Mexican border. the Fed has the ability to control job flow...and we have no flow. why......because they have bigger fish to fry...and were all in grave danger...think I'm wrong? the provoked holocaust. been saying it...people say no...no. so many people have sense death in the air for some time now...I'm starting to believe it's way worse than suspected
carl16760 1 year ago
@carl16760 Im not the betting type... but if I had money on what "MIGHT" happen... Id say China and Russia crash the dollar... let the USA tear itself apart in WROL... then pick up what ever is left over. Without contaminating the land and resources with fallout and not having to deal with the masses of people... thats of course if I were to put money on it.
HopllyteAlpha 1 year ago
@HopllyteAlpha I see all possibilities arising...and none of them are any good. Kind of makes sense now why they don't care about the border. Why the Fed is not creating jobs I hear they have the power to do. No I don't think it will be Nukes. Either EMPs or Neutrons from the subs sitting off each coast right now. were in big big trouble here like this country has never seen. The Cold War...ha.
carl16760 1 year ago

It's good to have a weapon that shoots the enemy's ammo, so you can take ammo from their dead.
gblpst81 1 year ago
@gblpst81 the Chinese got new rifles with a newer caliber designed for better armor penetration (5.8x42) which they would likely need if they were to fight US or Russian troops. even the Russians use a lighter caliber now as well, 7.62x39 is still used more than any other round but not by major military forces.
MaddDawg42 1 year ago
@gblpst81 news flash.they got new shit....can't remember what they have now...go look it up.
carl16760 1 year ago
@carl16760 Yeah, you're right. Since I wrote that comment I found out they're using 5.45mm, so essentially an AK-74 rather than an AK-47.
gblpst81 1 year ago
@carl16760 Now I've got to get either an AK-74, or a 5.45mm conversion upper for my AR-15. The ammo's cheaper anyway, so I'd be ahead of the game.
gblpst81 1 year ago
Nice rifle.

AK47>AR15
One word...
RELIABILITY....
but still love the AR15, It's more about going out and having a good time at the range kind of weapon (AR16).. Now! the AK47 is the i want too get shit done type of weapon. haha, But it all really depends on the person

@theroadwarri0r Are you planning on purchasing an ACR? If so can you make a video reviewing what your think of it? -Cheers : )
xenomorph856 1 year ago
@xenomorph856 The ACR is an overpriced gimmick like most new military style weapons. no sense in spending around $2,000 for a rifle that only does the same stuff an AR does with some new bells and whistles. You can easily build an AR that will perform just as well as a ACR for $800 less, which you can then put towards a quality optic or put towards any other AR type improvements or small parts like a bolt or extractor etc. which are plentiful on the market unlike ACR parts.
MaddDawg42 1 year ago
@MaddDawg42 True, but the highlight for me, was that you can switch out barrels for better accuracy, better close quarters ets. You can use an ACR for everything.
xenomorph856 1 year ago
@xenomorph856 Yeah the switching out barrels is a nice feature, but it is not a feature exclusive to the ACR. AUGs have a simpler way to switch barrels and a STG556 goes for about 14 hundred. If that's not your thing even ARs can swap their uppers. Max effective range of a m16 A2 is about 550 meters, for a M4 it's 500 meters, you really aren't sacrificing much range or accuracy with a 14.5" barrel, but if you were to get a 16" barrel the difference is even smaller.
MaddDawg42 1 year ago
@xenomorph856 If someone want's to pay big bills for a "tacticool" rifle more power to them, but a $2,000 price tag isn't gonna make you shoot any better. I'm just trying to help a young shooter out. Some times the price tag doesn't always mean you are getting something a lot better and if all you are going to do with it is plink, you don't need anything better than a standard AR or AKM. But don't get me wrong if I had $3,000 dollars to blow I would consider getting a ACR just for fun.

God bless America.
freestate239 2 years ago
I own both an M-4 and AK style rifle aswell, though I'd choose my ElCheapo AK in an actual emergency situation. No matching the AK for accuracy against my M4, but punching nickel sized target groups at 300 yrds rarely, if ever, is applicable in a defensive situation. I just feel more secure standing behind my .30 caliber tank. Ugly, mean, indestructible. But I do have a fondness for my 5,56mm "ferarri". Though the 5.56mm is really an underestimated defensive round. It works, if applied correctly

MalvinMcpot 2 years ago
I own both. AK-47 and M-4. I'll take an M-4 any day over an AK-47. M-4 is my primary platform, and my back up is the AK. Which of these weapons do you own and shoot regularly?
theroadwarri0r 2 years ago
@theroadwarri0r Just one word WRONG
MalvinMcpot 2 years ago
@theroadwarri0r I own neither but from every experience i had in the military the AK is a far better AR than any other apart from again in my experience the Steyr Aug. Whats your military background? I dont mean that in a im trying to prod at you way just interested how you made your conclusion and do you own an AK?
MalvinMcpot 2 years ago
@MalvinMcpot The reason i ask do you own an ak is that your conclusion baffles me the m4 that i fired in Sudan was an ok assault rifle and the ak fired just as good as it but the one key descision maker in my book is the ak's all round toughness and endurance in the field under intensive use. The Ak 47's and 74's we gathered on patrols were the rifles we fired and the fired as if new and they had never been cleaned ever lol. i also fired the sa80 and a famas while over there both on the level.
MalvinMcpot 2 years ago
@MalvinMcpot and another thing the famas was a bit of a design nightmare but all four fired the same as in accuracy and comfort but only the ak stood out as a weapon id want by my side in a madmax post apoc world
MalvinMcpot 2 years ago
@theroadwarri0r lol not arguing with you just wanted to explain my previous comments and a shotgun is still a better backup weapon but a ak with mounted shotty o man the dream gun
MalvinMcpot 2 years ago
@theroadwarri0r Why not have a longer barrel like a 20" one that the M-16 was designed to get the 5.56/.223 up to the velocities that it was intended to yaw and fragment when it impacts?
I undoubtedly have less firearms experience than you, but look at it this way, ammo will be of limited availability. Why not increase the lethality of your primary weapon, all the while increasing your effective range for the compact 5.56 round by adding very little weight and bulk to your original load-out?
NastyChuck 2 years ago
I do have an AR with a longer barrel. Look at one of my recent vids, "Easy AR-5 Upgrades" Now what? :)
theroadwarri0r 2 years ago 2
or have a M1A then you only need 1 round even with moderate quality body armor.
armypenguin 1 year ago
@NastyChuck the use of 75gr and 77gr bullets provide increased fragmentation range for 16 inch barrels. You could also always load some fragmenting rounds yourself.
labartic 1 year ago
@NastyChuck That extra weight may not seem to be much for a couple hours at the range but try lugging it around all day for days on end. Try running that longer barrel from a vehicle, or in a building. In most situations, especially in urban scenarios, a 14.5" (M4 length) is more ideal. Unfortunately this free country really isn't free and that is considered to be a SBR. The benefits of a short barrel generally outweigh the benefits of small increase of velocity and energy.
snakeii0 1 year ago
@NastyChuck if Roadwarrior would be so kind to let me throw my 2 cents in on this issue, 20 inch barrel model ar's are excellent weapons, But the weight vs the pro and cons of the weapon are up for grabs, In other words if any an "Urban" enviroment I would go for my 16'' model over my 20'',Due to less weight more maneuverability, therefore more precise shots and placement I have no problem hitting a 6 inch target at 200 yards with iron sights with my 16'' center mass is greater then that.
spoonman72 1 year ago
@theroadwarri0r
Why not an ak74? ammo is cheaper than 5.56x45 nato.I THINK it might be lighter than 5.56x45 but im not sure so ...idk 5.45x39 compared to 5.56x45 and you get ak reliability :]

As long as it operates reliably and comfortable with it.
It's your ability to use it that would really matter.
It is all about preference.

not vary deadly huh lol. the 22 long rifle cartridge like i mean the little small game pleeker round is responsible for more gun related deaths in america every year than any other caliber lol and were not even talking about a full size 22 caliber 223 round. yes it lacks in knock down power but not in deadliness know before you speak.
