dude these bike run like shit with the spark arrester in!! but are bulletproof , i have 2 endcaps made by 2R racing (one for me and my dad) they look nice and let the bike breathe haha
they wouldn't of put the baffle and spark arrester on the bike if it didn't need it. it gives the engine backpressure which will give the bike more speed actually. if you want the bike to sound better than stock, then just buy an aftermarket exhaust.
Folks, I just bought an XR250 -89, approx 2 hours later the bike just cut out suddenly, instantly, no compression and wont start of course, something broke down on me? Seller sounded trustful afterwards that it cant be anything serious, more like the handle/decompressor that turns off/decompress the engine is doing something. What could have cause this sudden death? Thx for help!!!

your taking the spark arrester out too and thats not legal and could do some damage you can do mods to your exaust and if you take your seat off you get acess tou your air filter and it should have a snorkel on it you can rip off
lol its great without the baffels in my xr400 i removed the stock baffel and cut the back part off it with the mesh on it so its just the chrome end cap its loud as hell but sounds awsome
yes i know im in the north east of the uk and over here we are loosing land mainly to idiots riding flat out over quiet moorland with no regard for others as in they dont slow down for horses, walkers etc... so they report us then we all get the blaim just coz a few morons on bikes cant be sensible.
Yup. Leave it alone! Almost without exception, engine and exhaust mods shorten the life of the engine. For more speed buy a bigger/ more modern bike. If you're riding the trails for which the Xr's are designed and truly shine, you really don't need to make them loud. Motocross and race performance bikes should stay on the tracks and off mountain trails where they will be overkill, obnoxious and compel the anti-motorized fascists. Like it or not, noise= closures. Use the right tool for the job.
Buy a bigger bike if you want a deep powerful sound, the XR sounds the same with or without the silencer, it's just the sound it much louder and that pisses a lot of people off, and I promise when you are out riding people (and riders) will tell you to quiet it down.
Especially when they hear you way before they see you, and you pull up on an XR, they will be annoyed. There is no real reason to just make it louder unless you're that selfish.
oh man i just sold my XR like 2 weeks ago to buy a honda cbr 600, or a yamaha r6 or something like that, but i had a car accident and now im short of money, now i have no car neither motorcycle, hahahh and that sucks. but thanks for the advice of pissing people off, either way, i never ridden or ride the bike without the silencer haha i just took it off for a moment in my house, what kind of bike do you have?
@drz400e332 erm, what a stupid comment. the baffle restricts the engine a little bit, removing the baffle will increase your power and make it have a better sound. and usually when your riding you don't really hear other persons bikes, you hear your own. and it's not that loud because you're wearing a helmet which softens the sound.
@robrancid i think removeing the silencer give more power because on my 400 with the silencer in it will tend to bog out now and again but with the silencer out it dosent bog and i think i makes it a little more responsive my opinion
i own this bike and i'm 6 3 and it's like a toy to me, i can maneover this bike very easily, i have anouther account on here that shows me doing a wheelie down my side road in 5th gear for about 9 hydro poles
It'll be too tall of a bike for you unless you modify it. Mine is the perfect height for me being 5-9. I tried to let my sister ride it, and she's 5-4, but it was too tall of a bike for her. You will probably drop an XR250 a lot when stopped with your foot on the ground, and may even have a hard time putting it in gear and getting going from a standstill at your height on this bike. If you're stuck on the XR line of bikes, you'd be better served with an XR200 or it's replacement... the CRF230.
Height-wise, the bike should be fine for someone your size in most non-hairy situations. The only issue could be the weight of the bike, particularly if you have a thin build. XR250's are a heavy bike based on today's standards, and you might have a bit of difficulty physically maneuvering it should you happen to stall on the side of a hill and need to push it around to a position such that you can restart it without it getting away from you. You'll learn clever ways to do it though in time.
I like that bike and sound. I've been looking for a used one. Would you say that's a good starter bike for someone who is about 5-9 and 145 or so pounds? I had a 50cc minibike as a kid and recently spent about a half hour on an XR200(last week actually).
actually i measured the washers and they are close to 3.5 mm in thickness! this will allow enough exhaust to come out while keeping the bike fairly quiet. keep an eye out on the plug to make sure your jetted right? never had to change mine but depending on location and elevation it could be a problem?
put 2 washers the thickness of a dime between the baffle and muffler and pull the snorkel out of the airbox! cheap fix that will give way more power and still be quiet! never needed to rejet !
mine sounds better !

Loud bikes piss people off and cause land closures. Riders who make their bikes loud will ruin the sport for everyone!
modcit 2 years ago
lol
JoshMSartin 2 years ago
also removing the silencer reduces back pressure and make the bike loose lower end torque...
it however gives you bit more top end speed..

@robrancid actually yes it can affect the bike. wen you ride with out it you can get dir in it or dust and it'll clog the carburater
