  • @rorshakks I don't know what god you believe in, but he doesn't exist. The God of the Bible doesn't throw people in hell because of their political or social leanings. People go to hell for rejecting God's Son Jesus Christ.

  • @paddock5 Everybody was for segregation back in those days. Heck, Abraham Lincoln was a vociferous segregationist. I don't see why you would be making a big deal of this. All of our Founding Fathers were in fact "unrepentant" segregationists. Even Muhammad Ali didn't believe in race-mixing in marriage. Why the hate?

  • I'm from Montgomery, Al & if I recall correctly this is the same man that was & probably still is for SEGREGATION, so although my heart goes out to him for his loss (in spite of his beliefs) I don't think he's someone you should take advice from concerning what should, or shouldn't be allowed in your city!

  • Just watched the Freedom Riders. This piece of shit Patterson will get his. There's a special hot room waiting especially for him that will give him an eternity to realize how pathetic and vile his life was. Eternal torment's coming soon as you're near death you sack of shit!

  • Patterson has been exposed as an unrepentant racist. You can't watch the Freedom Riders and see the modern interviews of him and not know that. He puts on a smug face when he talks about the Kennedys and how he "put one over on them." The guy is an embarrassment.

  • Racist

  • @eKriZZLe Actually his father's murder occurred first. Patterson did express regret for supporting segregation in some more recent interviews, though one can debate whether than means anything. Interestingly, he also endorsed Obama in 2008, just as former Arkansas Governor Orval Faubus supported Jesse Jackson's campaign in 1984. Politics really does make strange bedfellows.

  • this is 2010 not 1951. we need gambling to save schools, jobs, and the state. when r the people of alabama going to wake up. Stop taking your money to other states and keep it here where it can help us.

  • Although I have a deep respect for Gov. Patterson, and I hate that his father was murdered by corrupt officials, I don't believe that gambling was the root of the evil. I have seen gambling do great things for communities, such as Elgin, IL and the positive impact their Riverboat has had over the past 15 years. Gov. Patterson is only human, and his opinions can be faulty too, e.g. the pro-segregation stance that he endorsed as governor. Let the people vote.

  • These pieces of from Phoenix City left there and wound up in Corinth Mississippi and Mcnairy County Tennessee. This is the people that Buford

Pusser had to deal with. His wife murdered,he was shot 7 times, stabbed 6,run over 2 times, and finally lost his own life.Gambling leads to nothing but trouble.

  • @americanstylelandsca How can you have respect for a racist piece of shit like this? His opinions were faulty? Wow, why not just say he shouldn't be blamed for anything he ever did in his long and illustrious racist and criminal life?

  • The story of his father's murder and the corruption in Phenix City is a sad one.

That is not a reason to condemn gambling. Condemn corruption. Gambling was just a small part of this story.

You should label this story correctly, but you won't because your are typical left-wing "reporters". Jeff in Dothan Alabama

  • @jeffery19677 - ah... don't you mean right wing?

I agree that corruption is a bigger part of the story, but corruption is still a part of the story. If you don't think that corruption won't happen now your sadly mistaken. They just won't be as bold as they were then.

  • Gambling is happening every day. So is corruption happening every day in every city. One has little to do with the other. Using your logic,,,,It rained Tuesday, Fred died Tuesday,Therefore, the rain killed Fred.I call the poster Left wing because he/she doesn't support my INDIVIDUAL FREEDOM to gamble without looking over my shoulder for big brother's gun. Please do not try to protect me from myself, especially at the expense of YOUR liberty.

  • Excellent and the Gov looks great!

  • A viewer has raised a great question about the source of this video. As a research group, we are sensitive to attributions and appreciate that standard. This video was produced by API New Media after being privileged to interview Governor Patterson and have access to many of the same materials others have used to tell his story.
