Interestingly, he also endorsed Obama in 2008, just as former Arkansas Governor Orval Faubus supported Jesse Jackson's campaign in 1984. Politics really does make strange bedfellows.

Although I have a deep respect for Gov. Patterson, and I hate that his father was murdered by corrupt officials, I don't believe that gambling was the root of the evil. I have seen gambling do great things for communities, such as Elgin, IL and the positive impact their Riverboat has had over the past 15 years. Gov. Patterson is only human, and his opinions can be faulty too, e.g. the pro-segregation stance that he endorsed as governor. Let the people vote.

That is not a reason to condemn gambling. Condemn corruption. Gambling was just a small part of this story.
