I just got a tricolor shiba puppy! hes so smart!!!!!! he knows shake and sit and come and fetch! hes only 8 weeks! I crate trained him in 4 days now hes really good about his crate(: such a smart breed,I got blessed with an awesome dog, but any other advice for me from shiba owners would be greatly appreciated(:

@MelieAngeel If you have the time, patience and assertiveness, you and your Shiba should turn out just fine. Make sure you do lots of research, though! I had 5 years worth until I finally got my baby Shiba! :)

I love my 2 shibas. They are very hearty and will adapt to any situation. They learn very fast and hold on to what they learn for a long time so it is important to teach them the right things right away.

She should stop at around 6 months pretty drastically. They are actually pretty silent after 6 months. The rest is all about how you train them. Try ignoring her when you walk in the house if she barks and only give her attention when she stops. They are a really smart breed. She'll get the message.

The problem is I adopted her at the age of 6 and I've had her for 2 years now. She barked so much on day that my neighbors called the cops! It was so embarrassing but she looks out the window and see people and ne little thing she barks.

They are very smart dogs. Sit with her by the window or outside and shush her the second she barks. Tell her the critters are friends. She needs to respect your commands. A well-trained shiba is the most loyal and eager-to-please dog you'll ever have.

My Shiba is at 6 months of age and he never barks or howls. I kinda wish he howled. Worse guard dog I've ever seen. He's a jumper though. He'll pretty much jump on you till you acknowledge him. Try ignoring your Shiba like sanmartoo said. When we first got Hercules he use to try to bark and make whiney noises we would discourage it by ignoring him (when he's in time out) and saying "no barking" (to interrupt his bark). Now he's pretty silent.

I adopted my dog at the age of 5 & the people at the shelter told me she's "vocal." That was the word they chose. I should asked them to elaborate on that. But she barks for anything. She can see the street and she will bark at everyone and everything. People around us get pretty mad. I've even bought this thing that makes noise when they bark but she keeps on doing what she does. I thought about that collar but I think that's a little mean so I haven't tried it!

@JessShia thats crazy, my shiba doesnt bark for anything. the only time he'll bark is if someones eating and not sharing hahaah hes so cute. i herd that shibas come from three different types of familys i guess. i dont know to much bout that but if you google it im sure youll find it, maybe if theres ways to see which family they come from maybe certaain familys bark and some dont. cause ive herd others dont and mine never does

OMG Shiba Inu's are my second most favourite dog becasue my first favourite is German Shepard.  :'( wWe were forced to give my old dog away. I was so heartbroken. I'm going to get a Shiba Inu when I grow up, though. :)

Shiba Inu means small dog, or little brushwood dog. The one in the picture is not white, as that would be a disqualifying fault, he looks to be a pale fawn, which still is not tolerated in the breed standard, bt he is gorgeous!!!

Yeah...gotta agree...that was "uh, ruh, roaw" (not "I love you"), but it's clear it was trying to repeat what you're saying or "talk" with you. I liked it. Work on it, and your dog'll get it one day. (Funny how that's the #1 thing ppl try and teach their dogs to say. Why not: "I will try to be more independent and mutually supportive while also asking it of you, my human companion"? Oh "independent" is a toughie, isn't it w/ 4 syllables :)

I tried the "I will try..." one but he couldn't get past "supportive". He got "Hello" and "Coco" Down. This is mostly because "I love you", "Hello", and "Coco" All sound pretty much the same. He does try really hard and that's all that matters to me. He sounds better in person.
