She's totally amazing. Her voice was emotional and rich and she had depth to her acting. Jessie had one face and it looked like she was in pain all the time. That coupled with the fact that she couldn't walk in shoes suggests to any sensible person that she isn't ready for the stage. In a few years maybe but Jodie is Nancy and she'll be damn good at it too. Here's to Jodie!

The problem with IDA was that Nancy is a far bigger part than Maria or Joseph was. The majority of the public have an image of a busty barmaid with a large heart, and Jodie fits that perfectly (that is not an insult by the way).

Script wise yes - but neither Maria or Joseph are really proper acting parts. Maria is bascially just very nice and caring, and Joseph is a good guy. He has 'Close Every Door", but thats it. Nancy, though a smaller part, is a lot harder and has more character. In my eyes, this makes it a bigger part.

Maria is a massive part vocally, likewise for Joseph. Nancy is a deeper part, and has many sides (some of which I don't think are mentioned enough). It is a much harder part to cast than the other two were.

I agree with you - Nancy was harder to cast than Maria. With Maria, we think of Julie Andrews...and Connie Fisher is so reminiscent of Andrews, she was the obvious choice throughout the competition. If there had been someone just like Shani Wallis in IDA, it would've been a very different competition...if only because Shani Wallis is already Nancy in our consciousness.

The producers put Jessie's ALAHNM on second as they knew, from rehearsals, that she blew the rest away. Jessie nearly fell over with emotion.

Frankly this is a pretty average rendition, nothing more - Sarah's was better for example - and those faces she pulls at the end just scared my cat out of the room!
