always if a socialist economy grows they say it just oil and its not good to invest blabla
angola has one of the highest gdp per capita in africa with a growing population, even if it is just oil without scoialism and a government taking and giving the right share to the people the country wouldnt be so wealthy.
The economy of Angola is one of the fastest-growing economies in the world, with the Economist asserting that for 2001 to 2010, Angola's annual average GDP growth was 11.1 percent. It is still recovering from the Angolan Civil War that plagued Angola from independence in 1975 until 2002.
Despite extensive oil and gas resources, diamonds, hydroelectric potential, and rich agricultural land, Angola remains poor, and a third of the population relies on subsistence agriculture. Since 2002, when the 27-year civil war ended, the country has worked to repair and improve ravaged infrastructure and weakened political and social institutions.
High international oil prices and rising oil production have led to a very strong economic growth in recent years, but corruption and public-sector mismanagement remain, particularly in the oil sector, which accounts for over 50 percent of GDP, over 90 percent of export revenue, and over 80 percent of government revenue.
I saw some signs on businesses in english, instead of Potuguese the typical american would never pick up on that but us that know Africa quickly saw that. You are also seeing more Portuguese emigrating to Angola. You see Angolan students studying abroad most all are coming back to Angola because of almost definate job opportunities. Europe is on a down turn while Africa is rising right now.
@wilsalvn I think they should get rid of the Portuguese signs too, they should start teaching African languages in schools, and have signs in African language(s)..do you see any signs in African language in Portugal or anywhere else in Europe? so why should we have their language? Lets keep our African Languages a live...Portuguese/French/English/Spanish is not ur/our language..
i think is sad threy are making a story about angola and showing a city that isnt in angola... its insulting for angolans and for their beutyful city arquitecture
Come on !!! Those images are not even from Angola, how can we take this footage serioulsy, Luanda is a much bigger and rough town that the city that was shown, the license plates aren't angolan, and Luanda port hasn't got such cranes!!!
Thank you for writing to Voice of America's TV to Africa. We appreciate
your comments and interest. We apologize for the incorrect footage, but we had nothing really in file on Angola. Now with the new Miss. Universe from Angola, news media will begin to get more footage of Angola. Thanks again, VOA TV to Africa
What city was that you actually showed. I'm thinking that city was Kampala, I noticed a sign on a business was in english instead of Portuguese, so I knew right away it wasn't Angola.
So glad that the Angolans spoke up about this. How low can journalism get that they have to show fake pictures of wherever instead of the real place? If you don't have pictures of place then do the story with the interviewees and keep it moving.
This images are not from Angola... look at the car license plates... Angola uses usually 3 letters - 2 numbers - 2 numbers like AAO - 00 - 99 or 2 letters - 2 numbers - 2 numbers - 2 letters... like LD - 00 - 99 - XX
@simbakafiri that's the fact. I don't know what west african got to do with this dressing thing n he saying that this people don't look angolan. so that means if u don't dress western or west african don't dress western, mean that they don't know hw to dress. Another ignorant and self hatred. One of the reason why we r behind is simply becus we r not united!
Interesting comment, yeah, the people don't look angolan - angolans are always well dressed in western style - neither do the streets, the cars, the houses etc. I think they just cut together some archive pictures from a westafrican country and they thought nobody would notice, hehehe.
@MrFufumann who cares if they are dressed in western styles...you people need to stop suckin western dicks and be proud of africa and its ways of living and dressing
Its about time angola, but if that money is going to all those corporatins and crooked dictators; then this is a waste. Why brag about a economy growing unless its in your hands and benefits the natives and doesn't destroy the land. When will you stupid crooked corrupt african leaders sign deals that benefit all of the country instead of you and your chickenshiet followers along with the main looters of african wealth; USA, EUROPE, AND NOW CHINA.
