Hey Mickey- great job I love everything you put on youtube. I was wondering if you ever tried figuring out the pedal steel Jerry Garcia did on Sugar Magnolia on the American Beauty album- I would love to know how to do. I was also wondering do you use a tempered tuning?
Hi, I want to learn how to play the pedal steel. Would you suggest a Sho-Bud Maverick if I can find one versus going out and buying something like a carter starter to learn with? I've been watching them on ebay and I think I can get one cheaper than a carter and have a better instrument. What do you think? Also I have a request. Can you play Ernest Tubb's version of drivin nails in my coffin the way Buddy Emmons did in the live version here on you tube? Just a request.
oh..if you want to hear an amazing steel picker look up "davepedalsteel"....anything he plays is very precise and smooth. I think you'll enjoy his music.
Singpilot....I've been a commercial pilot for about 22 years now. I have a little 172 with an amazing panel and I operate 5 Grumman G164s.......Ag Cats. I've never flown anything so grand as jets although my old instructor is flying left seat in a Citation X now...his dream job. I've been lucky enough to get a couple of rides in it.....if I could only afford one......sigh. I might get nosebleed if I went higher than about 7500 feet. keep the shiny side up.
this is great! I was on the fence about picking one of these up until now... love hearing MTB but also a fan of jerry garcia's petal steel. this video is very helpful.
Andy!...wow...this place never ceases to amaze me. Ive gotten in touch with numerous players from the past in here. Hows life treating you?...are you still in FL?..Mickey
Slap...sure don't. I decided that showing was easier and less time consuming. If you would like me to record something slower for you, shoot me an email...Mick
Great job!! I have always wanted to learn this song so this video is great. You would not happen to have this song tabbed out by any chance would you?
I use to play back up for Dickie Becks whenever he was on his Highato. If you know what I mean? Yeah, We had fun in the sun and we jammed and jammed and jammed. Thanks for the Farondamon. Give me some Greatful Dead ...PLZ!!!
Mickey, Thanks so much for picking the finest song in steel to play for us on video lesson/youtube. Even though I am a Bass and Guitar player, I have always dreamed of steel playing. I went to a pedal steel workshop at guitar center once and the guy said he played with the MTB some of the time but did not play on the studio cut of Fire on the mountain of course, but he played it sounding like the album to a T. He played with Charlie Rich mostly. I think his last name was "Wright" do you know him
i really preciate ya showin thangs on here fer people just startin to learn how to play the pedal steel guitar, my dads had one fer a very long time an ive always wanted to learn how to play an have one of my own, i got a carter starter last november an i love it, thanks again
Thanks a bunch for the lesson! I bought an Msa e9 10/4/3 in 78 with dreams of playing this for the bar crowds and stopped at learning the beginning- and it's really nice to see the parts I didn't get to. Thanks Bob
We added this song to our set list back when it was a new song! I think I was still playing a Sho-Bud Maverick at the time. We still use "See You Later, I'm Gone" as our closing song.
Thanks for the kind words Steel..I have a good friend from Florida that is playing guitar with them now, and I would kill to get in the gig on steel.....but ahhhh...the day job calls...every 15 minutes. If I ever get a chance to record a live version with them, you will be the first to hear it...Peace!...Mickey
