well Bonnet was fired by Blackmore in the making of Difficult to Cure, you know Blackmore he fired a lot people in the process of making an album...maybe Bonnet had been working on spotlight kid and then fired by Blackmore, Blackmore a great guitar player but an asshole as a person
@WhiteDeath I DONT THINK HE WAS TRYING TO EXCEPT FOR IN THAT FIRST PART (where he did nail it) everything else was him trying to fill in with the flow of the song while still trying to stay on par with the YJM ideals
If it had been vice versa & Yngwie replaced Vai in a band you could be DAMM SURE he would never learn solos so closely, Yngwie would just do his usual wank off improvisation crap.
True about Malmsteen playing Tender Surrender, not sure how that would sound. But to use this at the defintion of Malmsteen's style and top of playing ability is false. This song is Malmsteen at his most passive. It's more band orientated then like any of Malmsteen's solo stuff and alot of Vai's stuff as well. If you want to use Tender Surrender for Vai, Malmsteen would raise Arpeggios from Hell or Icarus Dream Suite in display of style, however saying that Vai > Malmsteen.

just the suckiest chapter of the euro hair band era.....looks like Bowie sounds like judas priest......and oddly...vai seems to fit there in that niche of shit-time so well.
maybe that's why his own writing sucks so much....oh well. his fingers move fast....some people call that playing "good" but it bores the shit out of me.
12year olds post vids of that style of playing every day.
@Shady32 -Occassionally Graham Bonnett, will appear with Uli John Roth, as a guest. They usually jam on old stuff, from different bands. Look him up next time he plays in your town, it will be worth it ( usually play for 3 -4 hour gigs.)
Vai's personality fits with the band much better than Yngwie's. Vai plays extremely well but something about malmsteens trills just give me a shiver. they are sooooooooo fucking clean
You cannot miss the fact that Vai has zero of Malmsteen's energy, vibrato and overall sound. It's not about playing fast, Malmsteen simply owns the guy here.
Very likely Dimarzio PAF PRO - he used them all the way through, even in the Jems up until the white one he currently plays. Nice Pick up...I dont like the Evo's either
@WardyP You are correct. He was using PAF pros. I still have an issue of Guitar for the practicing musician that has an add of him promoting the PAF Pro DiMarzzio pick ups. I myself have always used them. They're freaking awesome.
ja,ja,ja,ja,ja,ja,ja,ja,ja,ja,ja, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN is the one and only, steve vai need the pedals for his bad solos, only have 3 or 5 really songs tender surrender, in the name of god etc, is more, yngwie wrote the whole song. jet to jet is of yngwie!!! but the video is good... nut yngwie is the best!!!
but nothing to do....in this things malmsteen doesn't have competitor...for the sound and for the style...no competitor. vai great, but it's not his genre
