Some also have big- well, normal sized- and very beautiful eyes.When you look at other Asian countries, you'll see that Asian eyes can also be almond-shaped. I don't hate Envy.

He's a fantastic character and wonderfully good villain counterpart to Edward, more so then Scar I think, given that Envy is short and immature like Edward is, and possessing a very distinctive temper button (which in Ed's case is his height, and in Envy's case is being called ugly).

I just don't think he's meant to be loved, given that he's sociopath with a pathological disdain for human life based off his jealousy towards it.

The time span of Fullmetal Alchemist for the most part takes place from the 19th century to the 20th century. The time period in reality seems to be similar too. I would guess that it's a mix of the WWI and the WWII era.(1914-1945) Weapons, vehicles, war tactics, uniforms, and etc. are a blend of the two eras mentioned.

Xing is definitely based on both China and Japan. Both China and Japan are known to have emperors. There are also references to clans and dynasties like China and competition for the throne. That could be refering to Japan's shoguns fighting over power as well. The culture of Xing is very similar to China and Japan. The practice of medicine and the clothing reflects that. May and Ling are similar to the Chinese while Fu and Lan Fan are similar to the Japanese.

Like someone previously said, the nations of Fullmetal Alchemist are most likely based on actual nations that exist or have existed. Amestris is based on Nazi Germany since both are heavily centered on the military and are led by the Führer. Amestris is also constantly at war and has committed genocide in Ishval and etc. Drachma is based on the Soviet Union. A large country with a decent military bordering Amestris. Drachma's territory appears to have harsh and brutal winters like Russia.

If you'd have spent just four seconds looking at the entire series, you'd have seen my point. Just click the series name above this video. Also, most anime released in America has both the English and Japanese versions on them. People aren't buying exclusively English versions anyway.
