i do have to say something about the wasr, out of the box, the woodwork is unfinished and rotten, and the muzzle break is welded on...and its not one of the neat'o slanted ones, or the 74 style on on his arsenal, its the flat boring one,... and did i mention its WELDED ON.
@mtgAzim It's only welded on on the ones made during the ban. They aren't that way anymore. During the Clinton ban, you couldn't have flash suppressors, or muzzle breaks, so they made it impossible to install one. Any rifle made 1994-2004 will be like that.
@mtgAzim Yeah. I have a WASR GP 10/63. Awesome rifle. Just make sure you get a post-ban one. I have seen the ones like you mentioned with the stupid little thread protector welded on there, they're still out there. I have one of those awesome RAZR muzzle breaks on mine. Nasty looking thing if you ask me. I love it.

Arsenal in my oppinion is way over price, specially for their tooth-pick think barrels. What happens when you put an ak74 barrel on an ak47 chambered rifle. Go with the Wassr!
Arsanal in my oppinion is way over price, specially for their tooth-pick think barrels. What happens when you put an ak74 barrel on an ak47 chambered rifle. Go with the Wassr!
@strafenuts no its fine i had mine hot smoking hot and still ran fine but be warned get the barrel red hot there will be some metal fatigue and heat transfer plus if you are getting the barrel that hot expect some warp age
I have a wassr, and out of the box it cleaned really well, low and behold the wassr jammed every time, short stroked, and failed to feed, after playing with it, the tapco trigger needed to be smoothed over where it rides on the bottom of the bolt, and the gas port in the barrel was obstrucked, I ended up running a drill bit thru it to clean it out. Now it shoots good. but it was frusterating getting it to that point.
Wassr is the better choice and half the price. Mine shoots better than any Arsenal I have come up against and mine wont over heat due to the small ak74 barrel Arsenal uses. They bore them out to shoot a 7.62 which is crazy. The only matching numbers I have seen on an Arsenal, is the bolt carrier and the bolt. My WASSR has all matching parts.
@Mrgoodnyt GIVE SOME REASONS WHY NOT???? YOU HAVE NONE!!! I YOU HAVE NO COMMENT WHY ONE IS BETTER THAN THE OTHER SO SHUT THE YOUR FACE. EVEN HICKOK SAID THERE WAS NO DIFFERENCE EXCEPT PRICE. YOUR JUST AN ELITIST THAT THINK SPENDING MORE ON YOUR RIFLE MAKES IT BETTER AND YOU A BETTER SHOOTER.
Hey hickock, I know you probably won't respond to this because this video is so old, but have you ever had a problem with the Arsenal's handguard becoming hot/melting? I have heard of them doing that and wondered if you had encountered that issue.
is it true if you filed the back half of the trigger group and filed the firing pin to a point that them guns will fire full auto? my buddy keeps telling me that i think itsa an urban legeng i think it will only fire one wat do u think hickok?
@jkoehler555 You don't need a license to own a full auto. You need a federal tax stamp, ATF background check, and a lot of money. Civilians cannot buy a machine gun manufactured after 1981. The process for buying a machine gun is the same as a suppressor.
@MACEX1000 The best AK-47 type of rifle is the Russian Saiga 308 look up the Saiga 308 Ver 21 that is by far one of the most accurate ak rifle in the world assuming you are shooting good ammo like Lapua 308 or Norma or precision 308 custom loads.
The Bulgarian AK "'Arsenal'" is only one AK which was made on Swiss machines! The quality is perfect! But nowadays, i think, they do not made it anymore...
well that smoke doesn't surprise me with the heat they produce aha id like to see some of the back of those targets, I definitely Like the solidness of that second one and he definitely is right on how little recoil it is not really my style But Definitely Nice aim definitely eats up ammo for sure and what it did to that jug is definitely a example of how powerful they are! he has a pretty broad collection from what I've seen.
@wesdct yes if you can even find one at a decent price. Generally they are not in most gun shops. The Tantals do have a 1.6 mm sheet reciever vs. the 1 mm that almost every other stamped AK has, so that's a good thing.
I have seen some Polish AK's that DO NOT have the chrome lined barrel. I would not buy one of these, even the WASR has a chrome barrel and you need that feature unless you like cleaning your barrel a whole lot.
I bought my WASR last Christmas, I watch a lot of videos on what to look for so when I bought mine, they showed me about 5 different ones and I picked the best. I LOVE IT. they are fun and cheap to shoot. I refinished the wood and it looks good and shoots great. I have not have one misfire. I used 000 steel wool and sanded any rough places where the metal rubbed too tight. Just bought a Mosin Nagant this week for $79 can't wait to shoot it next week.
Hi hickok, I see you have the strikeforce stock on your WASR but I'm not sure what you have on the Arsenal. I'm going to be replacing the wood stock on my WASR and was looking at the strikeforce but which do you prefer?
@DaytonaRoadster The STG-44 and the AK-47 have virtually nothing in common when it comes to operation.
the STG uses a delayed piston with a roller locked action like in a CETME
the AK uses a standard piston operation with a rotating bolt.
so as you can imagine the AK is 100 million (copies) times easier to produce because it is vastly simpler. get you facts straight before you bash my man kalash.
@futureseabee4usn lol bitch plz. Hugo Schmeisser, epic german weapon designer, who helped design the STG-44, was captured by the Russians in 1944 and not release in 1949, and he wrote, when he was freeded, about his work on the AK-47 project, along with Sergei Gavrilovich Simonov. M. Kalaiskov took credit for work he was barely associated with, and was paid to lie by the Soviet Government, so they could go with the "genius of the proletariat" idea, even M.K. admited this in 2009.
@futureseabee4usn not mention the massive simlarties of the STG to the AK, both are stamped steel, both tap gas at nearly the same point in the barrel, both use a similar mag, and similar round design (a cut down full-power rifle round), they have similar sights, and also the same sight radius. Schmeisser just simplified his design so the mongoloid Russians could produce and use them.
@DaytonaRoadster people were using stamped guns for years before the STG. the first all stamped pistol was design was made in (i know germany) in 1941. the 1942 M3 was completely stamped. It works. the internals of the AK and the Internals of the STG are totally different. I've seen the STG taken apart at the old ordinance museum in Aberdeen Proving Ground MD. Its not the same at all.and MK did not work WITH simonov. he competed against him. simonov created the SKS which beat
@futureseabee4usn um no, Simonov and MK DID work together, MK's first design was inspected by Simonov, and he was MK's inspiration, he says so in his auto-biography, in fact the first prototype AK looks a lot like an SVT-40 and SKS with a pistol grip and short stock. I own an STG44 and several AKs, and if you are slightly less than retarded, you can see where they simplied the design, but they are very similar. Hell the trigger design of the AK is stolen from the M series American rifles
the operating system of the STG is different to the point its not a copy. most guns of the past century were based off principals that worked on other guns. the AK has virtually the same gas system as the SKS aside from the extra piston.
the designs of the STG and the AK are different enough that you cannot say that it is a copy.
And Schmeisser only helped with the mass producing aspect of the AK. t
round and cosmetic designs may very well be reminiscent of the STG, but to claim the AK is a copy is not true. get inside and see how the gun works and you will see that there are vast differences
@futureseabee4usn ya, no crap, i said they simplified it. And the differences arent vast, the gun was re-designed for simplification and making it Russian winter proof, however its odvious the AK is a direct decedent of the STG-44, as is the M16, FN FAL, CETME and the G3, the difference is Stoner, FN, and others admitted it was, were M.K. lies about it and claims the AK was all his idea, and his alone, which is a well know lie, because there are documents in the archives that disprove it.
@DaytonaRoadster add to that that schmiesser wrote only that "[he] gave the Russians some advice". and your claim of him writing about his work is wrong
@DaytonaRoadster actually Von Braun was very Open and proud of the work he did here, but of course he had the free world swinging at his nuts and actually made good money
@futureseabee4usn ya, Schmeisser died shortly after returning to Germany, the Tula and Ishmazh arsenal archives are closed to westerners (gee i wonder why?), and nothing the Soviet Union ever produced worked except the AK, hell they couldnt even do simple stamping right, and had to make milled guns until the 60s when everyone else had been making them since the 40s. Not to mention the one thing the Soviet Union produced in vast amounts, was lies. Nearly everything they ever said, wrote or spoke
@DaytonaRoadster yes the russians stole everything from everyone. shit look at all of their post war planes! many parts were interchangeable with american planes of the same class.
but maybe i am drinking the cool aide when i say that I believe MK had much more to do with the AK's design than you give him credit for
arsenal?wasr? personally im an ar15 man,but there is no denying the reliability and mystique of the ak47.very fun to shoot, and if i could only have one gun,i would choose the ak!
Hello, I was wondering which rear sight you prefer, I see you have standard blade on your WASR, and a Krebs custom peep on you Arsenal. Which do you prefer?
hey hickok45 does your Wasr 10/63 bolt get stuck on the dust cover because for some reason the bolt on my Wasr keeps hanging up on the dust cover every time i fire a round I dont know if its from lead build up or the dust cover? what do you think?
@kushclouds51 your rails are rough, or possibly out of spec, sand the rails down a little and de-bur them (the rails inside the receiver) and that should fix it, if not someone put the rails in wrong, take it to a gunsmith to fix it
if your going to buy a WASR, just inspect it beforehand. I bought mine on impulse and paid the price for it. I didnt know much about them @ the time and mine turned out to have all the problems he mentioned (mag wobble, canted front AND back sight, "sticky" bolt). However, it has never failed to shoot. I ended up buying a tapco 4 rail handguard and mounted a cheap red dot on it. Works fine, the tapco trigger is awesome, and am now satisfied overall. For parts/upgrades, check out cheaperthandirt.
A trick for anyone with the 'canted sight' probelm. Try using a C-Clamp with a socket. Use a socket big enough to clear the front sight drift pin. I did this on mine and works great. Take your time though.
I have a WASR. Century's biggest flaw is that they are inconsistent. They actually use mil-surp parts but their assembly staff is underqualified. If you get a WASR that works then you have gotten the biggest bang for your buck in the AK world. AK's bing what they are though, I wouldn't spend more than a few hundred on one. They are a utilitarian rifle, not a piece of art to hang ona wall.
@jdessell I tend to abuse my guns. I bought a WASR that was used by the US Military for training. The lans and grooves are pristine but the rifle was all gummed up from the blanks and it was beat to hell (I like it better that way personally). I bought it for $325 and shot it without cleaning it. I fired 500 rounds through, wiped the carbon buildup out (no lubing), and fired another 300 through. No jams, no hiccups. I trust this rifle with my life personally :D
@hickok45 How tall are you? I handled one of these WASR models at a friends house and when i adjusted the stock to your length, it was too big for me! I'm 6 foot exactly.
Tapco triggers are very light, the only downfall is their very long creep and no indication as to when it is going to break. i perfer the romainian military trigger, its two stage, a little heavier than the tapco, but has a second stage that has dead drop.
Arsenal= overpriced saiga. WASR=(if you know what your looking for) the best gun for the money. if you think WASR in particular is crap because its a WASR, you dont know AKs. learn something about them, then go buy one. if you buy a WASR, get one made BEFORE 1969, look for matching numbers, find one that hasnt had the reciever modified for a double stack mag, if it has an american barrel, it is crap.
@firefox8192 you sir I applaud, if I recall correctly, wasnt the Founding Fathers adding that in because in England they weren't allowed to own muskets, which were at the time MILITARY GRADE WEAPONS.
so when they wrote in the 2nd Amendment in the Constitution, they had MILITARY GRADE arms in mind.
and your statement brings me joy that others believe the same way as I do.
"a tyrant can have my gun when they pry it from my cold dead hands, and even still then I'll haunt the f**k out of them"
I have a WASR 10/63 and I love it. I've never had any issues with it. I guess I got lucky with mine like this dude did. But I modified mine a bit with a side mount and a red dot sight and a few other tactical parts. But I swear by my AK. It's never jammed or ever had any issues of any kind.
Not starting arguments here, just my 2 cents about Saigas. I just did one and the conversion takes all of about 2 hours and is very easy. I was going to buy a WASR, but decided on the Saiga instead. It was cheaper, its a much nicer rifle than the WASR, and the conversion was a really fun project. A lot of Arsenals are made from Saiga's that they convert (and do a very nice job) and sell for $750+. It takes the canted sights and defects of the WASR out of the picture and less money than WASR.
Saiga rifles are gong for $299 all over the Internet right now. Add another $120 or so for ak conversion parts. If you are okay without all the bells and whistles you are left with a true Russian AK for well under $500. Cheaper and much better option than the wasr!
@Sporora Um...you guys obviously don't know much about the Saiga rifles. First off, when you convert the rifle, all the holes are already there...you drill out two rivets and plug them when finished (with metal plugs). There is no compromise to the integrity of the receiver. You do not drill any new holes anywhere in the receiver and there are no "empty holes".
@4everUSNavy When you convert a Saiga rifle, part of the process is adding a bullet guide into the trunnion. It is a $10 part (most people even just make one for free) and takes about 5-10 minutes to install. With that done, your rifle will accept ANY AK47 or AK74 (depending on caliber) mag on the market.
I've noticed in all vids ive seen, everyone always makes it a point to let people know their guns are not loaded.... some say it to the point where it sounds like there scared more or less to leave it out..... im new to guns and i just wanted to know does youtube MAKE you show that they are unloaded and what-not or is it just a common thing to do for safety (i have no problem with it, in fact i think its very smart to check) but i just noticed that and wanted to know
How much will an arsenal sgl21-71 cost me, anybody?

@resdudeornardude But he bought it for the functionality. He did not like the regular stock.
Plus, looks don't win anything. Russian Spetsnaz use heavily modified AKs with aftermarket rails, optics, grips and stocks.
Plus, Izhmash has presented the AK12 which even has an uglier stock.

@DaytonaRoadster The STG-44 and the AK-47 have virtually nothing in common when it comes to operation.
the STG uses a delayed piston with a roller locked action like in a CETME
the AK uses a standard piston operation with a rotating bolt.
so as you can imagine the AK is 100 million (copies) times easier to produce because it is vastly simpler. get you facts straight before you bash my man kalash.
futureseabee4usn 1 month ago
@futureseabee4usn lol bitch plz. Hugo Schmeisser, epic german weapon designer, who helped design the STG-44, was captured by the Russians in 1944 and not release in 1949, and he wrote, when he was freeded, about his work on the AK-47 project, along with Sergei Gavrilovich Simonov. M. Kalaiskov took credit for work he was barely associated with, and was paid to lie by the Soviet Government, so they could go with the "genius of the proletariat" idea, even M.K. admited this in 2009.
DaytonaRoadster 1 month ago
@futureseabee4usn not mention the massive simlarties of the STG to the AK, both are stamped steel, both tap gas at nearly the same point in the barrel, both use a similar mag, and similar round design (a cut down full-power rifle round), they have similar sights, and also the same sight radius. Schmeisser just simplified his design so the mongoloid Russians could produce and use them.
DaytonaRoadster 1 month ago
@DaytonaRoadster people were using stamped guns for years before the STG. the first all stamped pistol was design was made in (i know germany) in 1941. the 1942 M3 was completely stamped. It works. the internals of the AK and the Internals of the STG are totally different. I've seen the STG taken apart at the old ordinance museum in Aberdeen Proving Ground MD. Its not the same at all.and MK did not work WITH simonov. he competed against him. simonov created the SKS which beat
futureseabee4usn 1 month ago
@futureseabee4usn um no, Simonov and MK DID work together, MK's first design was inspected by Simonov, and he was MK's inspiration, he says so in his auto-biography, in fact the first prototype AK looks a lot like an SVT-40 and SKS with a pistol grip and short stock. I own an STG44 and several AKs, and if you are slightly less than retarded, you can see where they simplied the design, but they are very similar. Hell the trigger design of the AK is stolen from the M series American rifles
DaytonaRoadster 1 month ago
@DaytonaRoadster Just Like the sks looks a lot like the svt 40
the operating system of the STG is different to the point its not a copy. most guns of the past century were based off principals that worked on other guns. the AK has virtually the same gas system as the SKS aside from the extra piston.
the designs of the STG and the AK are different enough that you cannot say that it is a copy.
futureseabee4usn 1 month ago
@DaytonaRoadster out the early AK.
And Schmeisser only helped with the mass producing aspect of the AK. t
round and cosmetic designs may very well be reminiscent of the STG, but to claim the AK is a copy is not true. get inside and see how the gun works and you will see that there are vast differences
futureseabee4usn 1 month ago
@futureseabee4usn ya, no crap, i said they simplified it. And the differences arent vast, the gun was re-designed for simplification and making it Russian winter proof, however its odvious the AK is a direct decedent of the STG-44, as is the M16, FN FAL, CETME and the G3, the difference is Stoner, FN, and others admitted it was, were M.K. lies about it and claims the AK was all his idea, and his alone, which is a well know lie, because there are documents in the archives that disprove it.
DaytonaRoadster 1 month ago
@DaytonaRoadster add to that that schmiesser wrote only that "[he] gave the Russians some advice". and your claim of him writing about his work is wrong
futureseabee4usn 1 month ago
@futureseabee4usn right, Von Braun said he just "gave the Americans some advice" about rockets too. lol
DaytonaRoadster 1 month ago
@DaytonaRoadster actually Von Braun was very Open and proud of the work he did here, but of course he had the free world swinging at his nuts and actually made good money
futureseabee4usn 1 month ago
@futureseabee4usn ya, Schmeisser died shortly after returning to Germany, the Tula and Ishmazh arsenal archives are closed to westerners (gee i wonder why?), and nothing the Soviet Union ever produced worked except the AK, hell they couldnt even do simple stamping right, and had to make milled guns until the 60s when everyone else had been making them since the 40s. Not to mention the one thing the Soviet Union produced in vast amounts, was lies. Nearly everything they ever said, wrote or spoke
DaytonaRoadster 1 month ago
@DaytonaRoadster yes the russians stole everything from everyone. shit look at all of their post war planes! many parts were interchangeable with american planes of the same class.
but maybe i am drinking the cool aide when i say that I believe MK had much more to do with the AK's design than you give him credit for

@futureseabee4usn you are, but thats ok,

Hello, I was wondering which rear sight you prefer, I see you have standard blade on your WASR, and a Krebs custom peep on you Arsenal. Which do you prefer?
obxkaiser1 2 months ago
hey hickok45 does your Wasr 10/63 bolt get stuck on the dust cover because for some reason the bolt on my Wasr keeps hanging up on the dust cover every time i fire a round I dont know if its from lead build up or the dust cover? what do you think?
kushclouds51 2 months ago
@kushclouds51 your rails are rough, or possibly out of spec, sand the rails down a little and de-bur them (the rails inside the receiver) and that should fix it, if not someone put the rails in wrong, take it to a gunsmith to fix it

How did you fix your front sight on the romanian ak? I have one also and the front sight is slightly off center. Thanks.
MrB0TT 2 months ago
I prefer the plain ol' wood styled WASR-10 AK-47.
CaptainMaloy1001 2 months ago
if your going to buy a WASR, just inspect it beforehand. For parts/upgrades, check out cheaperthandirt.
rickrossbach 2 months ago
A trick for anyone with the 'canted sight' probelm. Try using a C-Clamp with a socket. Use a socket big enough to clear the front sight drift pin. I did this on mine and works great. Take your time though.
jdessell 2 months ago
I have a WASR. Century's biggest flaw is that they are inconsistent. They actually use mil-surp parts but their assembly staff is underqualified. If you get a WASR that works then you have gotten the biggest bang for your buck in the AK world. AK's bing what they are though, I wouldn't spend more than a few hundred on one. They are a utilitarian rifle, not a piece of art to hang ona wall.
jdessell 2 months ago
@jdessell I tend to abuse my guns. I bought a WASR that was used by the US Military for training. The lans and grooves are pristine but the rifle was all gummed up from the blanks and it was beat to hell (I like it better that way personally). I bought it for $325 and shot it without cleaning it. I fired 500 rounds through, wiped the carbon buildup out (no lubing), and fired another 300 through. No jams, no hiccups. I trust this rifle with my life personally :D

does your bolt get stuck on the wasr? mine does sometimes and others have said the same thing.

Arsenal has a chrome lined barrel and great "74 style" muzzle break. WASR, not.
rogermcgee1 2 months ago
@rogermcgee1
WASRs do have chrome-lined barrels and you can get a '74 style muzzle break to attach onto them for about 20 bucks.
Arsenals are much better made, though.

Tapco triggers are very light, the only downfall is their very long creep and no indication as to when it is going to break. i perfer the romainian military trigger, its two stage, a little heavier than the tapco, but has a second stage that has dead drop.
SNIPERSTEVE420 2 months ago
Arsenal= overpriced saiga. WASR=(if you know what your looking for) the best gun for the money. if you think WASR in particular is crap because its a WASR, you dont know AKs. learn something about them, then go buy one. if you buy a WASR, get one made BEFORE 1969, look for matching numbers, find one that hasnt had the reciever modified for a double stack mag, if it has an american barrel, it is crap.

the only LAW that matters is the 2nd Amendment. all else is unconstitutional.
firefox8192 2 months ago 3
@firefox8192 you sir I applaud, if I recall correctly, wasnt the Founding Fathers adding that in because in England they weren't allowed to own muskets, which were at the time MILITARY GRADE WEAPONS.
so when they wrote in the 2nd Amendment in the Constitution, they had MILITARY GRADE arms in mind.
and your statement brings me joy that others believe the same way as I do.

MrFlyman23 3 months ago
Saiga rifles are gong for $299 all over the Internet right now. Add another $120 or so for ak conversion parts. If you are okay without all the bells and whistles you are left with a true Russian AK for well under $500. Cheaper and much better option than the wasr!
MrFlyman23 3 months ago
@MrFlyman23 But the issue is that the receivers are weaken from the empty holes, they will NOT last very long...
Sporora 3 months ago
@Sporora Um...you guys obviously don't know much about the Saiga rifles. First off, when you convert the rifle, all the holes are already there...you drill out two rivets and plug them when finished (with metal plugs). There is no compromise to the integrity of the receiver. You do not drill any new holes anywhere in the receiver and there are no "empty holes".
MrFlyman23 3 months ago
@MrFlyman23 saiga rifles only use the maazines they come with and want take others. so No
4everUSNavy 3 months ago
@4everUSNavy When you convert a Saiga rifle, part of the process is adding a bullet guide into the trunnion. It is a $10 part (most people even just make one for free) and takes about 5-10 minutes to install. With that done, your rifle will accept ANY AK47 or AK74 (depending on caliber) mag on the market.
MrFlyman23 3 months ago
can you buy the WASR the way hickok has his, or do you have to change the looks yourself?

@Humberto4790 that was a typo..there is no SGL-20. SGL21 is the ak47, SGL31 is the AK74

@Solingen1000 I looked up SGL20 on the Arsenal website and yeah there are the 21's and the 20's.
Humberto4790 3 months ago
@Humberto4790 The SGL21, which is the current model, has both a bayonet lug and an accessory lug. The SGL20 only has the bayonet lug.
