  • @MovingUpp

Is this still funny for you? Like it's been five years. Are you simple? Are you starved for humor? Are you fucking dead inside what IS it??

  • @DIRELusca pretty dead inside is true

  • I can't imagine what it'd feel like to hit those notes...I'm eternally jealous

  • There's a video uploaded by Mr. Miller himself watch?v=nXyXFLLjtRw with several pieces sang by the same choir in the same church, including another performance of this Svete tihiy (at 7:50)

  • My god, I've never heard anything like this man's voice before. It sends chills up my spine. I would love to have heard this live.

  • Dude, you gotta update your blog, man!! There's a ton of stuff to write about!

  • here is Vladimir Miller with MIC

    watch?v=ArKvftEYUgw

  • I wanna go in Russia only to hear Mr Vladimir Miller singing live.

  • I'm an atheïst, but I LOVE listening to Vladimir Miller and other basses. What an amazing full low voice sound. He sounds like he's 2 times bigger than a normal human being. I get chill down my spine listening to him. Amazing!

  • I think I probably listen to this a dozen times a day, it's just amazing and evokes a deep spiritual sense of being for me, almost feels like this is the soundtrack to walking next to God or something. Thank you for posting this.

  • guy left to miller is my friend, and i can only say that his voice is beautiful - deep and powerfull. Miller ate him. Guy in the middle, also my friend, guitarist with a voice of beauty! MIller ate him, too.

For all gallons of beer we drank in S.Petersburg and Belgrade with you! Zriveli!

  • To those who talk bad about the gospel basses. Even though they sing close to the microphones, they still need to be able to put out the note with good tone. And they do it.

J.D. Sumner could sing very low in chest voice. And Tim Riley NEVER uses vocal fry, he told me himself.

Not being able to sing a note loud does not make it "crappy" (or "crapy" as one person spelled it) or useless. Singing these notes in full voice at even slightly significant volume is a huge talent, and that's a FACT.

  • I grew up listening to Southern Gospel and I'd never imagine trying to compare these two styles. Any way you look at it, Vladimir is one incredibly gifted singer. Just can't get enough of this voice.

  • Where can I get recordings of this?

  • it's incredible how that guy can have such a low voice

i'd like to be like him^^

  • it's incredible how that guy can have such a low voice

i'd like to be like him^^

  • No secret where that resonance comes from...look at the size of that melon!

  • which half-brained moron disliked this vid??? i guess he's just plain jealous

  • @themanfromlamancha who here can say they aint? :P

  • @themanfromlamancha Tim Storms disliked it because he knows he's just a big joke and that Vladimir Miller is the real deal.

  • I've listened to this recording dozens of times and I only just now heard Miller's last note at 2:46. He is of a rare kind indeed.

  • Beautiful overtones at 1:20!

  • No doubt a great bass singer. So many people however bash the gospel basses and say they can't be heard without a mic while singing.Well, did anyone stop to think that is because they sing with instrument bands.Miller can be heard so clearly here because it is acapella and no instruments to drown out his voice Tim Riley could easily do this and so could JD if he was still alive. I will say this having never heard of Miller before I was extremely impressed with his low notes and projection ability.

  • @thebassmanadam I actually met Tim Riley the other day and I asked him about how low he could get with good volume. He said he's never done choir stuff but his estimate was at about a Bb1. He sang a Bb1 for me with no mic and even without trying very hard to put much volume in it and after that I've come to the conclusion that Tim Riley's volume at a Bb1 could probably be about 3/4 of the one at 2:34. But the tone would probably equal to Miller's. Incredible.

  • Wahnsinn!

  • Miller' voice is pure thunder! I love his sound around 1:21!

  • @kingink1971 I agree. How about the note at 2:34 it sounds almost inhuman. Can't get enough of this.

  • I'm guessing he's the gigantor on the right?

  • @RetroOaf You're correct and Miller has an incredible voice to match his size. Projection and tone quality is just amazing.

  • @RetroOaf thats right :)

  • Miller's voice is indescribably beautiful and frightening at the same time. i never get tired of hearing him sing.

  • i dont want to get an earful from him :P

  • Is Miller a monster:)???

    UNBELIEVABLE!!!!

  • awesome !!!!

what a blessing if you can sing like that...

i'm deeply touched by this music !!

    thanks a lot !

  • I can't comprehend why some guys can't tell the difference between these huge, booming, gigantic monster basses, and some much more regular basses who produce well resonating slow vibrations to a proximity microphone!!

  • Incredible voice. He just stands there and his voice explodes without effort.

  • That is a scary F1 at the end! Scary is the best word to use - so uncommon and beyond impressive. Hail Miller!

  • I can understand people hating on JD Sumner, but to be fair Tim Riley has actually a true profondo voice. His G1's are resonating very well (check out the live version of Rainbow of Love, it's on the tube). I also remember that Riley's microphone settings are much lower than other gospel basses' according to Mike Holcomb, which then makes sense (meaning he needed less amplification).

  • @Jouwl I don't hate JD Sumner. His and Tim Riley's rumbling voices were great within a southern gospel context. Orthodox hymns are a different genre, with long, protracted lines. Listen to how long Miller can sustain the low notes. Often without any microphones. They're just different kinds of religious music. Why can't we enjoy them both?

  • @uglymoon78

We could, but I simply don't like Sumners timbre that much. It doesn't resonate in a way that I find pleasing.

    That is all.

  • @Jouwl just my opinion too :P

  • @Jouwl I agree, vocally Miller is waaay better. But with a rhythm section and a band behind, microphone in hand, JD sounded pretty cool.

  • Things like this make the internet awesome

  • its amazing, but i actually speak spanish so i dnt know what are they singing about, could someone please explain me??

    english or spanish is ok

    thanks

  • That's almost scarily low O_o Wow. Definitely fuelling my addiction to bass voices.

  • This is amazing. Did he not attempt to sing an F1 at the very end? That's what I thought I heard.

  • @randyjsing

I hear some noise, it could be a note badly picked up by the mic, but if it was then it's definititely not an F. To my ears it's a C1 since his C2's move mountains.

  • @Jouwl I agree. He booms the C2's! I happen to think he's attempting an F1 because F is the tonic note in that last chord, and he was singing an F2 (Loudly) and then he takes a breath and appears to drop down the octave, but maybe you're right...perhaps it's just something that the mic picked up. When these guys (Russians) get below Ab1 or so there's a certain sound they make...where they raise the soft palate REALLY high and modify to an "OH" vowel. That's what this sounds like to me.

  • @Jouwl Never mind C2....listen to that Bb1 at 2:33! Again....if he can do that with a Bb1 imagine his C2!

If I had seen this clip sooner I'd have asked to use one of Vladimir's notes here on my last bass singer video. I'll still post a link to this though because WOW! He's vibrating the room here!

  • @GamingDrummer89

That Bb1 is impressive indeed. I even suspect I hear some G1's in the first third or so of the song. They don't sound as smooth as the rest though, but maybe that's just a hint of that the human vocal organ has limits.

If you wanna make a bass singing video, be sure to include the video of Glenn Miller singing 'A basso profundo am I'. He finishes with an amazing Bb1.

  • @Jouwl Yep! At about 0:25 you hear an Ab1 with good volume! I will agree that it sounds less smooth. But they still sound smooth enough and loud enough to be heard.

And yeah I think I've seen that video. I didn't know that was actually his voice, though! That was amazing. I don't know if I'll be making another bass video anytime soon, but I'll post a link to that video as well.

  • I guess when people compare the human bass voice, we must compare it to the color palet. the darker the color the deeper, fuller sound, this being said, dark, deep voices give a richer fuller sound...more complete.

  • I just realised that I heard their concert live in Valamo last month :-)

  • INCREDIBILE!!

  • OF COURSE THEY CAN SING WITHOUT MICROPHONES!!!

MILLER PASUIKOV AND KRUGLOV(witch is my favorite) ARE REAL DEEP BASSES!!

THEY ARE NOT THOSE CRAPY GOSPEL BASSES THAT MAKE FRIES ON MICROPHONES AND SING MILIMETRES AWAY FROM THE GODAMEND MIC!!!

    THESE GUYS ARE REAL BASSES!!!

  • @DTowersey a lot of gospel singers use fry. HOWEVER some actually have the voice and talent

  • @DTowersey And the best Jurij Visnyakov! (Pasuikov correctly Pasjukov!)

  • @DTowersey The exception being Tim Riley... He never uses fry and can project an A#1 with little choral practice.

  • @LordAngus1992 Tim Riley himself actually told me that was around as low as he could project. Do you have any video or audio clips of him projecting B-flat 1 or lower with no mic, though? That'd be really cool to hear. I've been thinking of sometime doing a video of bass singers doing low notes with no close microphone and I'd love to be able to showcase the ability of a few of the singers who typically use mics to project.

  • @GamingDrummer89 I can't pretty well project a Low C to A/G area, I'll think about recording when I get my new iPhone friday and post it.

  • @gmfrk197 You can or you can't, lol? You put "can't" so I'm a little confused, lol.

  • @GamingDrummer89 Sorry, I CAN..

  • no microphones

  • @Gidenkidenk I know, it's amazing how they "CAN" do it!!!! WITHOUT MICROPHONES! XD

  • Everyone who`s in a choir without microphones knows what it means to hit resonant low notes. Gospel bass and choral bass are two very different things.

  • Amazing indeed. Beautiful harmony and so much power from five voices.

  • Who the hell voted down and why?

  • thats just amazing!! could someone please tell me the name of the song?

  • @16mike89 Svete Tihij is "O Gladsome Light". It is a very ancient Eastern Orthodox vesperal hymn.

  • @frostymama thanks a lot

  • @16mike89 Svete Tihij...

  • imagine Vladimir Miller singing with a microphone !!!!! o_O

  • @ghitaciprian Good one!

  • @ghitaciprian he might break the sound system!!

  • On the Valaam site they have some of the other selections from the "Taste..." album.

  • Those of you looking for another version of this beautiful piece (sadly lacking Miller, though) should check this out:

    watch?v=jOtZtuM1Q3Y

  • Who is the author of this wonderful piece of art?

  • Singing without a microphone in that range is just UNBELIEVABLE. It's a feather these singers are little known.

    B. Profondo Rulez, Miller Rulez

  • Riley has a good timbre, but hardly the volume that Miller has.

Sumner is just meh, low, probably frying most of it too, bad timbre.

  • @Jouwl Have u ever met Riley?

  • @ddmauld

No, your point is valid, but judging from the videos on youtube, he couldn't take Miller's place in this video.

  • @Jouwl

I used to think that way too, until I met Tim in person. Of all the bass singers I've ever met, Tim has the most powerful contra-octave voice I've ever heard (with or without a mic). Talking to him is like talking to a tuba. Tim certainly couldn't take Miller's place here, but as far as volume goes, Tim definitely has just as much if not more volume than Miller.

  • .... he makes me not want to sing anymore....

  • Beautiful

    Красивый

  • would love to hear a better recording of this. Absolutely love it though, very haunting.

  • Здорово!

  • far out this is probably the best sound i've heard from them, if you discount the sound quality. well at the start anyway. some monster harmonics.

  • Взял ля контр октавы и радуешься что ты крутой контроктавист ???? У Миллера фа контр октава !!! А тебе слабо ???)))))

  • Miller Is that tall.

  • Is it Miller so tall or others are just too petite? :-)

  • He's huge.

  • WOW 0:26

  • Comment removed

  • miller is an incredible man!!! what a voice so deeppp!!!

  • fuck that sounds fuckin awsome

  • Shame on you! You do not curse in church!

  • Shouldn't Church be where you belong if you're cursing?

    :)

  • this is simply UNBELIEVABLE! And please - stop comparing these bass singers to gospel bass singers or to yourselfs because the gospel bass singers and any from you guys will never be able to sing like Miller, Wichiniakov, Pasiukov and others can! it's a gift that's have been given to them so just get over it and enjoy it as you can!!! I think it's a privilege listening to them!!!

  • What a bass voice. Incredible, really wonderful. Great accompaniment as well.

  • @47krat These singers are nothing compared to me, or the gospel singers. My prepubescent son can sing lower then this. Especially me. The gospel singers as well. It;s so easy to compare these singers to myself, being superior. The gospel singers aswell.

  • @wowdanalise liar!

  • @uglymoon78 It's true, how these voices are not lower then my prepubescent son and myself. The gospel singers too. Hell, I know gospel singers and a boy who is also known as my son that can sing lower. I can also. I cant stress this enough.

It's all truth, every bit. Especially the part about the gospel singers.

  • @wowdanalise my grandmother used to sing below the piano in the morning, after a night on the town ...

  • @wowdanalise

    :D

  • @wowdanalise I dont belive you can Sing G1 with your CHEST VOICE(non vocal fry) like Mr. Vladimir Miller.

You'r wrong if you think that.

  • Sorry, Fernando Araujo (Brasil)

  • And for all you, check to Fernando Araugo in you tube, i think he is Good making low notes, (The sound and tecnic are not Soo good), but is a very low natural Voice)

  • But Check all the Videos of JD, specially (wafering stranger) At the ending, You can see how he change the color of voice and go low soo easy, (with the mic closer) but the diference of tecnic and color is very clear.

  • If you listen and look carefully, Jd, storms, and almost all of they at the adventist church, and, but not only, THEY USE FALSETO, I CAN DO A FALSETO LOWER THAN ALL THEY; BUT using a MIC, Check the videos of JD, He take the MIC CLOSER THAN HE CAN, Storms TOO, (SORRY; I am from colombia, my English is not so good) Thanks

  • All you check tihs video, Mikhail Kruglov-Do Not Regect Me In The Time Of Old Age (5:16). This is an example, how he sings without a Mic like miller, and the diference of voice, Jd sumner, storms sings lower, but with a mic, I am a bass singer, and with a mic, i can sing lower than all they, somethey use falseto, I can use a falseto, and do a triple low C, but (With a Mic)

  • well, those other guys dont beat Vladimir at volum and range!

    Thats for sure

  • His volume impresses me greatly, I'm jealous.

  • JD Sumner in a choir...why not? I don`t think that he would have problems to projekt his voice loud and clearly. I`ve postet a video with him singing a 100% modal A1. It`s not very loud and with microphone, but I think if someone is able to hit a A1 in real voice he would be able to sing a strong C2.

  • @DonSchanteloni

I disagree 100%. Just because you can do it with a mic and/or with vocal fry does not at all imply you can produce a strong, sonorous, note with timber like Vladimir did here w/o a mic. Find me a video of JD sumner singing this loudly, clearly, and with plenty of timbre like this man WITHOUT a mic and I will eaty my words. You can't though, b/c Sumner, storms, riley, and as much as like him, Sterban, never could/can.

  • Every singer can learn to produce a strong resonant note just like every opera singer learns it. Depending on the vocal range somebody can go lower an some not. Just because you never heard JD sing loud doesnt mean that he can`t...it`s just not his singing style. And I agree 100% with you about Sterban, Riley and especially Storms...I´m in a choir by myself, and I know that there`s a big difference betwenen microphone and no microphone.

  • If you take the microphone away from J.D. Sumner, Time Riley, or Tim Storms they have nothing.

  • anyone know of a better recording of this version

  • i never go tired of this song

i sit all day listening to it!

  • True!

  • Hahahahaha great comment RealJusuf!

  • Message for J. D. Sumner and Tim Reiley admirers: Miller, Pasuikov and co own their asses! Let them sing without a microphone, if they can...

  • that was awsome

  • And all this is 4 men! i cant belive it!!!

    OMG!!!

  • and he is WAY better than JD his voice is so much purer!

  • Not to mention, the others in the chior aint that bad either...

  • я мечтаю так вот спеть с ним рядом

  • I am an opera singer, a deep bass, and I can sing with belcanto technique (balanced registers and passagi from bottom to the top) from low A (below the low C) to f1. Sometimes I am able to sing C below the low C. But it is impossible to use all this 3 and a half octave range in one composition. I realize I would be able to sing this beautiful profondo music, but not opera at the same time. It is different technique. Every REAL deep bass has this ability, but it depends on technique.

  • Miller and Pasuikov are way better singers than Sumner and Riley. The american ones may have the ability to go lower but it's not all what's singing about. Have you ever noticet them singing without a microphone?

Miller has an incredible timbre tohis voice and yes, he cannot sing the C1 probably, but my god! What a wonderful voice he has! From mighty musculine powerful destroying notes to soft and smoothy ones like in "twelve brigands". I betcha JD couldn't sing it better.

  • @zdusiu I don't know why you're taking the time to even compare these singers. These low russian basses are sought out and trained, and out of the select few only those who can project with this kind of resonance are even seriously considered. If you sing southern gospel or some or some other similar style of music then it's not a requirement. Don't be misled though; there are other people in other parts of the world who could possibly do this...it's just not sought out and emphasized.

  • @zdusiu The lowest note I've ever heard properly at all is a G1, not from him.

  • There is absolutely no comparison between quality of singers, and even low notes. These profundi are by far the best in the world. Next comment.

  • I have listened to both Sumner and Riley extensively. You simply cannot compare their fry-tone microphone stunts to this kind of amazing bel canto bass singing. Here the microphone is used for recording only, not for amplification of volume and resonance. Miller's sustain and tone quality are just beyond belief.

  • I love the man he is incredible, just wish we can see more videos of him, but listen a couple of times closely to the tenors and other voices they are absolutely excellent and magnificent too.

  • Crazy low voice!!! Unbelievable!!!!

  • Does anyone know how tall he is? Or are the other ones shorter than him?

  • What a great gift , to have a voice like this.

    Superb! I love basso profondo.

    Doamne ajuta!

  • I'm amazed.

He looks not strained at all even while singing tle low G or F!

I guess that the F1 at the end was a vocal fry but anyways... holy shit that was great!

  • zdusiu:"I guess that the F1 at the end was a vocal fry"

I thought the difference between a basso profondo an a normal bass-singer is the vocal fry technique, isn't it ? Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

  • If I referer "vocal fry" as a technich, so I consider my self as a basso profondo. But this would not be some kind of "head voice" ? Correct me I'm wrong.

  • If your normal, chest voice's range ends at F2 - you are a regular bass. Learning the vocal fry technique does not make you be a basso profondo. It's concidered as falsetto - if youhit the countertenor notes with falsetto - you are not a countertennor.

Sorry for my poor english but i hope you got my point. ;)

  • You know what? If it sounds good and doesn't distract from the music, who really cares if it's vocal fry or not? Likewise, who cares if a countertenor uses falsetto? And by the way, if you think you can sing a G1 in full voice and project it, think again. I am a bass (lowest note is a B1, usually), and I know from experience it's impossible to do that-your vocal cords are already vibrating so slowly there's no way you'd get any sound from them singing in full voice!

  • No, it's not. He sings the entire song (aside from the F1) with his normal, chest-voice. The diference between basso profondo and a regular bass singer is that their ranges ale placed in diferent registers.

To sum up - basso profondo just HAS lowers voice than regular basso ;)

  • It may be his regular voice, but people have to understand this is a result of singing this low for his whole life, I'm pretty positive his voice would not be like this at all had he not had russian profondo specialisation... He'd be a bass for sure, just not this low. Just my opinion, based on what I've seen and learned so far, being a young aspiring bass myself (maybe not this low, but still low :)).

  • It is his regular voice. And furthermore it's his natural voice. You can widen your scale during excercises, but you can't change your natural voice register. Basso profondo register is probably the rarest of all. That's why theres so few profondos out there.

  • Well, that's how it seemed to me, I won't claim to know anything for sure, since I haven't met a profondo as profound as these russian oktavists... I'd sure like to meet and hear one in person, though. :)

  • that sounds awsome but strange

  • I think that in order to be a basso profondo, you don't need to have just big and relaxed vocal chords, but you need to be big in all the places...just look at vladimir miller,he is a giant!

  • Haha, I bet that includes his penis!

  • man he is so tall!

  • thank you for the answer, and sorry I am late but I was travelling.

  • This is a fantastic, and deeply religious, rendition of a great work. Miller is superb; it is astonishing how good all these guys are, considering the seemingly ad hoc nature of the performance.

This is Rachmaninoff's version of "Svete tikhiy," right?

  • Fantastic! V Miller is superb. The quality and accuracy of the group is truly magnificent. I think that I can speak for many in saying that these vocals are truly ment for pleasing God.

  • Slavetnija slava, Vladimir Miller!

  • where are they singing? they all sing beautifully.

  • It's the Phos Hilaron. I have a recording of the same choir singing this in English, which is how I recognise it.

  • Is Miller in the english version of Svete tihij?

If so could you please post it. I love Millers voice.

  • he's like the giant man there! how tall is he? nways great performance!

  • Really great performance! Vladimir Miller sounds fantastic, would love to hear a studio recording of this piece with him! Brilliant!
