Yes. This is a known issue that Apple won't own up to. They had even pulled down a discussion forum on their website about this very same problem (but which occurred on their G4 computers). A CBS story on "Consumer Watch" in 2007 did an expose on the G4 Vertical Line issue. Also, an Apple customer in France who had purchased 2 Imacs - both of which developed this problem - sued Apple and won. I will try to look up the links to these stories and post them in the future.
just bought thew newest 20" imac less than two weeks ago and a pink line appeared last night, went away, came back, went away. Hasn't been seen today, but I think I shall return the computer this weekend. What an f-ing hassle!
hi shiftyden, i can only tell you that 17'' intel imacs with certain (nost often) serial numbers suffer it.
It's been seen on newer imacs and i can't remember very well if it was seen on macbook pros. Maybe if you find deep you'll get to affected macbook users, but i cannot confirm it. Hope that answers your question :)
Well, i dont know if i can help you to fix it yourself.
The problem seems to be with the hardware, the screen and the connections to the video/processor card.
I think you should go to a mac store or a Mac reseller store. hope they can fix it for you,and maybe it is a tip to go looking for forums about Mac/apple. The best way to get it fixed is by the AppleCare way. do you have AppleCare?
i was playing world of warcraft and this happened to me too!!!
flickering grey lines showed up on my monitor when i rebooted and i couldn't see a thing. its not the monitor though cause i hooked it up to another pc and it worked..
Hey listen I installed SMC Fan Control on my imac it brought the temp. down from 110 degrees to 73 just by speeding up the fan!!! try it now please save that mac from ruining the screen.
Hi I have the same problem. Contact the office of fair trading- you have to contact the store which you brought your mac from by registered letter. You can threaten to take the store to the small claims court if they do not replace or repair the mac. DO IT NOW! It doesnt cost you anything even if does go to court. Perhaps if Apple UK are forced to accept there is a problem then Apple US will register it to and do an extended warantee on all 17" imacs.
just a update, ive got a 17 inch intel imac with the infamous lines (about 60/70 of them) just went to the genius bar in the apple store at the weekend and they are repairing my imac for free, yes its out of warranty and im in the uk, no need to go to court, just try the apple store
Apples have terrible logic board/graphic card problems. This is the cause of the lines on your screen.
They do not make it easy to clean dust out. Thus the hardware heats up and fails.

the LVDS TFT Control microprocessor goes bad thats on the panel itself. the little board connected to all the buffer cables.
If you reach some surplus suppliers in "china" you can find replacement ICs and change JUST the IC. tough, but dooable.

I got the same problem with my new 21.5" iMac. But there's only one blue line on the right side. Does anyone know, how I can solve this problem???
AeNPe101 1 year ago
@AeNPe101 The only way to solve it is get the screen replaced. The lines will probably multiply over time

The real problem here might be Björk.
My Macs start to puke when I play this.

You must not have a real iMac.
Apple products NEVER have problems. They are much MUCH higher quality than regular PCs, that's why they cost more.
