We've tried the sock bun method before here in our family. Here's some tips: First, if you want tighter curls use a thinner sock, and if you want looser curls use a thicker sock. Second, you have to get the level of dampness just right. I like the "Heat Free Dolly Curls with Socks" method better. It uses 3 socks and you don't have to cut them, and the curls are prettier. You should try that. Just search "Heat Free Dolly Curls with Socks" on YouTube and you will find it. :)
You didn't do it right. You have to wrap your hair all the way around the bun and roll it tight. Try experimenting with different sized socks. Trust me on this one. I just changed my pic to one I took after I sock bunned it. Check it out.
heey! you shouldnt put more than 2 sprays in it thats what happened not the way you did your bun but when u slept on it , it was to wet and when you moved around it messed up , thats why you needa make it less wet
I have really long thick hair and mine turned out like that the first time. Using a smaller sock and putting some glossing gel or a very small amount of moose might help. And the level of dampness might not be what your hair needs.
I also have thin hair so i tried to use a big sock when i first tried to put it up and I couldnt fit my hair up like you so i just picked a very small sock (close to an ankle sock) and I was able to make a good bun and I'm going to sleep on it tonight. Hope it works!
Well, I have medium-length fine hair and I just put mine up... we'll see how this goes. Lol. I'm guessing fine hair just ain't gonna cut it. (technical terms) Thanks for the vid!
So, I just did my first sock bun and struggled with it because my hair is (opposite of yours) too thick. I had a hard time wrapping up the end before I could even roll it. In the original video that Loespie does, the end of her hair isn't visible when she starts to wrap it... (also note, I'm not a hair-doing kinda girl, so hair styles are difficult for me). Anyways, I used an old iPod sleeve, rather than a sock. The sock was too big for my hair. iPod sleeve worked the first try and feels secure!
You just need to make sure while you're rolling the bun, taht you pull up to tighten it. :3 That's what I did and OMG i loved the results. I hope that helps you and anybody else that had a problem with it.
You have to make sure your hair is really clean. Since you hadn't washed your hair in a day your hair was probably a bit greasier when you woke up after doing the sock bun which can weigh it down.
Also, you need to put more of your ends into the bun at the beginning and/or spread it out a little more when you do it.
you dont have to space the hair when moving the bun inwards, i didnt do that and my hairs a bit shorter than yours, i done it staight after i had a shower i brushed it and didnt put it so high. by the morning it was dry and i took it out and got her result. try again my method
I think maybe you used a little too much water, your hair is like mine, quite fine and not very many layers. Try the same thing without water, just on dry hair, it should work out a lot better. It was the amount of water you sprayed on that stopped your hair curling properly :)
Dont have a link to something I did, but i took a shower and put mousse in it, then I braided it into like six braids on my head and put curling gel into the braids, (I used liquid curling gel), and then you twist each braid until it goes into a bun, then you put and then use an elastic band to keep the bun together, then sleep with it. In the morning it looks kind of curlyl and scrunched, really cute. I have it in right now. I loved the video, bu the way ;)
You hair texture and body has a lot to do. Mine is naturally wavy and when I put it up in a bun even with no sock, it still curls. I agree with the spray gel/ mousse suggestion.
If it doesn't curl that way then, instead of damping your hair with water, use some mousse or curling cream and spray a TINY bit of water to your hair before putting the bun in your hair... with the mousse and bun method, you can leave the bun for like 4-5 hours (instead of overnight) and you'll have beautiful curls :) Good luck :)

Use a smaller sock. It worked foe me with a smaller sock and if your hair doesn't curl well use a moose to dampen it.

Did you straighten your hair? That always jacks up the results. And add more water. It'll look better.

you should spread your hair around the bun before rolling so your hair isn't all on one side

@1234Torii it's way too hard to do, at least if you have layers and/or short or medium length hair. I just tried and it looked like a huge tangle.
