There is a version sung by Jo Stafford avainable on Youtube. I have only discovered Frances Langford through your uploadings, 'Carlo' - I'm not young, but too young to remember her. I was brought up on Stafford/Clooney/Fitzgerald/Page/Day because these were my parents' favourites. Thank you for the introduction to such a fine artist. Anyone who likes her work should also appreciate Jane Froman - a contralto with an amazing voice. Again, thank you.
Regarding "Long Ago and Far Away" - I think there is only one song by that exact title - is my favourite song of all time. It's a wonderful composition by the inimitable Jerome Kern, and I'd love to hear Frances' version.
By chance do you have "Long Ago and Far Away"? It was the first Frances L. song I ever heard (10 years ago), it was on someone's site, now gone, and I've never been able to find the song on any CD or even a 78rpm...not that I'd have a way to play it, at the moment. I'd be so grateful to hear it again. This one and "Blue Evening" are my favorite of her songs.
@cjvining17 I have Frances doing a 'Long ago and far away' but i don't think its the one you are referring to. A beautiful song however. The one I think you are referring to, Frances does live on a radio show. I'll have to dig around to find it. I'd like to post both of them because they are both magical. I do have 'Blue Evening' and need to post it. Frances again weaves her spell with that great song.
@silent00planet You certainly used the right word to describe Frances, 'MAGICAL' That she is! You might be interested in my two 'Time Travel' novels about Frances, 'Will I Ever Know' and the sequel, 'Lost in the Spell' available on Amazon.com
I can't believe that I posted a comment that never got posted. I can't remember what I said exactly, but it was probably something INSPIRED, darn, I hate when that happens, nevertheless, the gist of it is, this is, without a doubt, THE ONE AND ONLY rendition of a song I barely even liked before. Frances makes it into something splendid. As you know this song is played against 'Picnic' often. A little important bit is that Tony Romano was her vocal coach many years, I hear some of those notes!
@enigmamelodies This is THEE definitive recording of 'MOONGLOW'! I don't know how she did it. Sometimes I try to sing along with her, holding the tone and holding the notes as she did, I'm exhausted after a few lines. Of course I'm not a singer, although I had some training. What she does here is truly remarkable. Without a doubt the greatest singer, of anything, I've ever heard. I too feel the hand of Tony Romano in this song.
@CarloQuinto Vocal coach. Also considered the 'best accompanist in the business' - while Dad is not accompanying Frances here, he ALWAYS did vocal arranging, brought out songs' beauty & uniqueness with HER voice! Frances was talented enough to bring the notes to life. I have never heard ANYONE take this song this seriously. The LAST time she sings, And now when there's Moonglow way up IN THE BLUE. Going for that low note? Who does that? Only Frances. And only with Romano in the wings.
@enigmamelodies That lower register of Frances just knocks me out. She has such a wide range, light and airy to dark and dreamy. Such as in the 'Bamboo Blonde' where she sings 'Right along about Evening' when she sings the line 'When the sky starts to yawn' when she goes down on YAWN! Fabulous! Have you heard her sing 'I've gotta right to sing the blues and St. Louis Woman'?
I just posted another magical Frances Langford song on the 'Tube. It's called "Sooner or Later." It might not be too familiar to most of you but I'm sure you're gonna love it!

@CarloQuinto
What does Ridley think about using this song as the title of his up-coming movie.
1905compton 1 year ago
@1905compton Ridley is thinking of changing the whole project to "Moonglow" and bringing in some Werewolves, like Lon Chaney Jr.
