Akita Inu and Akita can be the same race. But Akita could also mean American Akita, and that's not the same as Akita Inu, wich is the japanese Akita.

They all have their origin in Japan, but are now different dog breeds (don't hit me, but they really are different, and for the FCI, i think you should not mix them.

Inu means dog, that's why Akita Inu is always referred as the japanese one.

Every Golden Retriever is a Retriever, but not all Akitas are Akita Inus ;D

@topherhotshot96 In Japan, 秋田犬 can be pronounced as Akita inu or Akita ken, both of which mean Akita-dog.

秋田県 is also pronounced as Akita ken, which means Akita prefecture.

秋田犬 can be from 秋田県, but I am not sure.
