Im from the UK and I find it shocking that real beef bugers are so hard to find in the USA. Watching this show I know that the UK and Europe would never accept the kind of food you are eating...sure we have fast food McDonalds etc but the majority don't eat from them...we have tons of national and independent restaurants doing cheap good home-made food healthy food we know is good.
All UK schools also get pure milk, none of this chocolate or strawberry
You have got to give Deno a lot of credit for letting Jamie experiment, even though he's a tough nut to crack!
As a Floridian, I would have guessed that L.A. (in "Liberal" California) schools would LOVE Jamie Oliver. I was wrong! Maybe that is a facade perpetrated by the corporations that rake in the dough at the expense of the children's health EVERYWHERE in America?
@HalcyonicRepose I'm a Californian, and the fact that the LAUSD isn't easy on Jamie Oliver doesn't surprise me. Everyone thinks that California is a completely liberal state. Not true. Most (not all) of the liberals are found in NorCal, and most (not all) conservatives usually reside in SoCal.
@kumarpassion doesn't really matter if it's set up does it? I think u kinda missed the point of the series if you actually care if it's set up or not. These facts and statistics aren't fake and it matters that people improve on their health in America.
I'm 17 years old and so far what I've learned from looking at the world around me is that doing horrible things to others will get you rewarded, rich, famous, etc., while doing good things and trying to help others will most likely cause you to lose money, your job, get arrested, lose your loved ones, go to prison, die, and be ostracized. Is this the world I'm going to live in from now on? I want the dragonball and pokemon and barbie doll world back...
@jessuatwork How does the profit motive ruin U.S school lunches? Government agencies don't have to go out chasing profits because they're funded through taxation, that's basic economics!
It'd Gov't control freakery and centralisation that's to blame for this mess, i.e the total opposite of what you think is the problem.
Those that are blaming "profit" and "big business" have it all wrong, this is what happens when you allow the government to monopolise a certain service.
If genuine small businessmen were allowed to run schools (i.e the sort of guys that were U.S pioneers) they'd drive standards UP. Not because they're better people, but because the parent would be free to use somebody else if they allowed standards to slip.
If you were to ask a member of the public if Jamie is doing a good thing here, they'd say yes. If you were to ask the same question to a suit or business owner, they'd come up with some convoluted reason that what he's doing is bad.
Cannot believe they dropped this show, I hate that about american tv. Here if you start a show and it gets bad ratings, they still show it to the end of the season.
America is corrupt! No surprises there.. But seriously you Americans need to stand up for your kids and make the change yourself! For goodness sake care a little, their being murdered in their own schools! Their just kids, they need to be looked after!
Go to the LAUSD as an organised protest, go to the frickin' White House if you have to. Just make your voices heard otherwise your country will just rot from the inside out.
Most tourists and visitors to the USA from other developed Western countries, including myself, are often shocked and surprised at the levels of mindless bureaucracy and lack of common sense/flexibility/discretion when it comes to rules.
The censorship of the media over there is also astounding to our European tastes.
@HumanistWikitopian I know, it pisses me off so much, considering I'm an European, too. When I came to US from Poland, first thing I learned was "holy shit, people in America don't care about education at all!" I DROPPED in all of my subjects, except for English, since I came here, and the standards here are so low, I literarily can do essays in one hour and still get a 100. I sleep through half my classes, and I still get 100s. It's so ridiculous I don't even... America sucks.
@HumanistWikitopian: Welcome to socalism. Where the kids aint yours, but subjects of the govt. superegoistic desires of keeping their worse than useless job.
That's a very interesting comment coming from someone who lives in Norway.
Norway maintains a Scandinavian welfare model with universal health-care, subsidized higher education, and a comprehensive social security system.
Many would argue that this is why Norway consistently has the the highest human development in the world, according to the United Nations' Human Development Index (HDI).
@HumanistWikitopian: Yes. But where do we get our money from? We have alot of our money on the stocks - which means that we earn on others labours, and sure, we have some nice production aswell, but many of our people are working in govt, many of them with a total useless job. Just look through history, and check out where you get -real- progress in wealth and economy, its not where the govt. involves. I would argue Norway is one of the poorest countries due our lack of wanting more and better
Norway has extensive reserves of petroleum, natural gas, minerals, lumber, seafood, fresh water, and hydropower. It is the world's largest producer of oil and natural gas per capita outside of the Middle East, and the petroleum industry accounts for around a quarter of the Gross domestic product.
@HumanistWikitopian: We could've done alot better, and life could be much better, spiritually, for most people if the govt. would get the f*** away. But they dont'. People in general are not treated like -human beings-, but animals. Prolly cause those trashy socialists are like animals them self. Norway are close to worthless without Oil. Norway was one of the most poorest country in europe - tied with communistic albania- in the pst-warII. If u read norwegian politics, pre-postwar, u'll undrstn
@HumanistWikitopian. No, none coincidence that most nice stuff come from countries like US. People tend to forget the American Revolution in 1776-1789, and the core attitudes of those behinds it. No other country had such progress some US between 1800-1890. Or Hongkong in post-war period. Capitalism. Free Market. Rational egoism - nothing else works more perfect than this. btw, in bible it says: No prophet will be liked in his own country. Not that I'm a prophet, but I -understand- Norway.

Real progress is the product of science, innovation and an entrepreneurial spirit.
It's no coincidence that Ford, Coca-Cola, McDonald's, Walmart, Starbucks, Apple, Microsoft, YouTube, Facebook and Google all came out of America.
The cost of living is about 30% higher in Norway than in the United States and 50% higher than here in the United Kingdom.
