i got an acr, and i actually like the scar. but man that stock feels real flimsy even if it is durable is feels flimsy. that being said i want a scar 17s instead of the 16s
Ive been seriously debating between one of these two rifles or a more traditional AR model. I'm glad I found your review here. I have a question though. Do you think I should be worried about Bushmaster's recall on some ACRs as a sign of possible reliability issues now or in the future, or do you think they have that under control now?
There both excellent rifles, but the SCAR hurts the wallet, I do like the fact that you can drop the ACR in the water and it works flawlessly and its compatible to AR-15s
Ive shot the Scar 17, and it is quite the beast. How do the two compare as far as balance, and accuracy? I was able to get a 1" group @ 100 yards with a 4x acog shooting from a rest.
@aimpointcx4444 I think the SCAR 17S is my favorite rifle. Like you, I shot 1" groups at 100 yards with it using a 4x ACOG (see the review I posted). It's very light weight, but it's still heavier than the 16S. For a .308 it's amazingly light and with very mild recoil.
@silvermediastudio Sorry i offended you. You would be surprised what kind of results you can get with all the different "military grade" rifles and ammo combinations you can use -_-
Does that muzzle brake come stock with the ACR or did you add it? Do you think the US military would actually use a muzzle brake instead of a flash hider for combat use?
I like the ACR as it has the compatibility with AR-15 (FCG/non-modified mags)...although it would be nice if the grip came off. They both seem pretty slick. Any discernible difference between the piston systems? I await the next video. thanks
If you absolutely HAD to pick between the two, using your own personal preferrences which would you pick? I've handled the SCAR, but haven't gotten my hands on an ARC yet. Great videos as usual, keep up the good job.
@Sturmgewehre why? is it because the ACR is easier to switch the barrel and has an ambi bolt release? I have heard from an AAC employee that bushmaster is working on new barrels for caliber changes on the ACR like 300blk. Have you seen the hi desert dog scar barrels or caliber changes? check them out they are pretty sweet
SO FAR, I'm liking the ACR more than the SCAR. Mainly becuase I am a lefty plus i like how the stock on the ACR is smaller that the SCAR. For a 5.56 round the SCAR stock is to big but thats my opinion. Thanks Sturmgewehre for making this series I really appreciated it :)
I haven't handle an ACR, but I was pleasantly surprised by it's light weight. My POF 16" is like 8 lbs! If you change out to a magpul ACS stock, add a red dot, flash light, and broom handle, the thing is like 10lbs!!!
I would like to see a weight comparison, also see which one is more comfortable to carry on your back- lol. Accuracy at 100, 200, and maybe keep going until one beats the other out at what range? Heat on the barrel- the FN seems to have a pencil barrel- can it handle the continuous fire?
@shinli00 it doesn't "bite" at all, I've put almost a thousand rounds through mine and I have had no problems with digging into my hand. having a high or a lower grip on it isn't an issue at all, gloves or not
Hey, nice rifles, nice review I appreciate all the work you put into this channel... but how long have the supposed trials for an m4 replacement been in the rumor mill? I'm asking because I want to read about the trials not to call people out.
I thought this trial had done passed? I know they selected the scar in 308 (17?) but only in limited numbers The thinking on the M4 replacement was not enough advantages IIRC. Or did I miss something? Good review either way
@themighty9mm You might be referring to the independent testing done by some SOCOM units. The testing for an Army wide replacement are still going on, and will probably not be over before 2013 at the earliest. They need time to run all of the rifles submitted through the ringer.
So far, watching these vids the SCAR just seems like an AR with an internalized buffer and revamped exterior on the upper.
TheSillmatic 1 day ago
ok so the scar is just a cool name for a gun, therefore I favor the scar
Millington43 6 days ago
@Millington43 No, SCAR stands for "Special operations forces Combat Assault Rifle".

the ACR looks very cool but why are people even looking at an 8.1lb 556 rifle?

Where's Part IV? Also, why would you pick the ACR over the SCAR? Because you can SBR it but not the SCAR?

Questions from a bit of a noob:
What is the msrp and approximate market prices?
What are the differences in weight?
Twist of barrel/material?

Great Videos! These are perfect for the gun addict trapped indoors.
I'm really excited about the ACR, and I'm hoping it or some variation becomes the next "America's rifle".
After a decade or two of government contracts, they ought to have the kinks worked out and the price brought down.
