one word .. AMAZING!! and fuck tommy emmanuel... this guy is in a different league!! pure class!!! tommy knows this because he has said this to fellow players!! dykes is a genius player!!! frightening!!
It looks more like a T-3. I have a T-5. It's a love or hate guitar. Depends on the right voice you're lookin for. That's why it's good to have a few guitars hanging around so you're not limited.
I love this great guys playing, he keeps getting better. I've spent many years in the studios in Nashville and seems like none of our players here have this style mastered Like Doyle D. Bobbe Seymour
The T 5 guitars I've played all lacked balls on the electric side... I think they kinda missed the boat on this one - the Taylor hybrid is a great idea, but make the pickups with a bit more fatness to them.
1:03 made me almost have a heart stopping moment and the END notes most expertly and masterfully done. Yuummie to the soul. : -)))) "THE WHOLE VID a delight.Thank you for posting and my Angel for sharing. ;-)"
I agree Im sending mine back !! dont know wether to lock my self in the house every day and keep practicing for 20 more years or quit lol That was very very nice Love that walking bass line
If you look at a regular T5, you will see by the pickups this is not a T5 guitar. I think the production guitar is called a T3 and with a Bigsby tailpiece it is called a T3-B. Anyway you play it, the T3 & T5 Taylors are absolutely tops of all guitars made today regardless of price. I own a Taylor DDSM (Original) & am ready to trade my mint 1963 Fender Jaguar for a T5 & a T3B.
Doyle Dykes is TOPS in my book and keeps getting better.
I know it's not the Rivera--I tried one of those Taylor guitars---no matter what amp--it sounds thin and tinny. The playing--great--would like to hear it with a different guitar--something with a little more "snot."
@bluesatbirth The problem is you're not really hearing the total tone of the guitar if running it unbalanced. If you ran the guitar with a TRS cable into a Balanced input, then you would gain 4db and overall bottom and tone. But guess what, there are no balanced input Tube amps out there!!! Except the Sedona with the ES option.
@bluesatbirth I hear all kinds of low end on this recording (with headphones). It does have that telecaster sound which I'm not crazy about, but overall it sounds real nice.
@bluesatbirth Did you try playing it thru a Bass amp? It sounds amazing at least clean. It wasnt a tube amp though but I guess a bassman would be about right. The one I heard played was one with only 1 exposed pickup though The most basic t5 it was nothing less than amazing and the amp was only a small yorkeville 10" bass amp.
Rivera top clean amps - can't believe they got a T5 on a Bigsby (sic) - Doyle's technique is that good even if you don't like what he is playing - you just have to say that was awesome!!!!!!
@parmanmanman This was the prototype. They changed the pickups on the production model if I'm not mistaken ;) Dykes' last harmonics run was just the icing on the cake. He really is one of the best fingerpickers as Atkins put before..
hey man, what syle of picking would you call that, where in the video, your like usin your thumb to pick bass notes, and then ur fingers to pick other notes, and the thumb is like making a patern with the bass ntoes? sorry if the way i asked was confusing. haha
It's called " Fingerstyle " made popular by Chet Atkins which combines bass/rhythm/melody simultaneously. He was inspired by Merle Travis' "Travis Picking" and took Travis' style to another level. At 1:00 Mr. Dykes plays " Avalon " which is a popular fingerstyle tune also played by Chet Atkins.
yeah, the ignorant people think that the good players are like a miracle. and it is lie, in part, because the player must be very patience and must have much perseverance!, but if you love something, the patience and the perseverance are natural, and you are right, this guy, and all the good players, dedicate the life to music, and this is beautiful and inspire me so much
It was a "frankenstein" made at the Taylor factory but they may be considering production if there's enough interest. Taylor does make custom guitars if you contact them directly. I love my Taylor 30th Anniversary 514ce. Have it with me in Northern Iraq (Kurdistan)
These guitars play like a dream. Muzikman75, odds are the place you tried it at didn't have the guitar set up or they don't pay attention to their inventory. The guitars can use either electric or acoustic strings and can sound like any guitar from acoustic, to hollowbodies and telecasters and can even be used to run with full on distortion. Check out some vids of Marc seal. He does some awesome demos, including the T5 jam. Needless to say, this is probably the easiest playing "acoustic".
Can't blame the guitar... Guys like Doyle have their tone pretty sewn up and they know how to get the best out of the instrument. And for many, a high action is part of the fire...
'Just adjustment issues. The T5 I played had too-low action for my preferences. The T5 is capable of creating shimmering tonal soundscapes unlike any other guitar; kind of like the synth-enhanced tones produced by Roland's VGA- amps. Delicious. "tinny" ? More like interesting and glass-like permutations of the high end. High-priced? yes, quality, design evolution & unique sound options cost.
RE: high action & this axes is that Taylors are totally adjustable, unlike many other "acoustics"
It is Doyle Dykes fingerstyle with 25 fingers. WOW
He is even better in person. also ther is something about attending a live concert of Doyle's.. He leaves you inspired to go out and play even better no matter what your music or style of playing. He is AMAZING
