I really don't see how he held on for so long,knowing in his heart he was innocent,day in and day out the monotany of prison only broke up with periods of abuse.He is still a very articulate,intelligent man.If I had been through half of what he has,especially unjustly,I would be a babbling, slobbering idiot. So let me get this straight - First these kids were convicted by ignorance, gossip and general public opinion, and THEN the police worked back to build up a case, which mainly hinged on a 'confession' which was obtained after a intense 12-hour interrogation of a youth with a 70-IQ....? What a frightening country, where the justice system can fail so horribly! Two words - reasonable doubt.

just for the record, the interrogation did not last even close to 12 hours, and jessie's IQ was tested a few times over the years with varying results. maximum result 88 i think? (close to that at least).

it's important to note as well though, that false confessions have been obtained by people a whole lot smarter than jessie, regardless of his exact IQ score.

I live in Tenn. Very close to where this happened. Seems like right before this happened there was another Murder where the people killed a family visiting from England Named Lillilids (SP?) up around the KY border and the murderers of them claimed to be satanist. A guy and a girl.Then in Knoxville TN you had the Job Core Murders where a girl was found with a pentagram carved on her an put killer Krista Pike in prison.Seems the timing was perfect for a witch hunt! These man did nothing!

The main reason we got rid of the death penalty in the UK was when a serial killer murdered the wife of the guy living downstairs. The guy was convicted and hanged on the evidence of the serial killer. No European country now has the death penalty and no civilised nation should have it.

@aliciaanne The police believe they were all killed at the scene. Experts dispute that Byers was, because the massive blood loss he suffered was not consistent with the amount of blood at the scene. Police simply decided it was "washed away." The other two were probably left to drown in the woods when the culprit - obviously John Mark Byers, let's face it - was dumping Byers' body.
