I may be white an 70 years old but I just can't imagine anyone beating Billy in the vocal stake, would love to hear him play trumpet but can't find anything on youtube, just the most amazing voice, this song wish you were here is my favorite.
I am 48 years old and my father introduced me to these songs....and I consider them all great... Unfortunately we don't this quality of music nowadays...
Angelo thanks for this cut, it was a gem I must have missed. My one brother that resembled him passed away last Mar. 08, but the other can be heard singing around his place to old records, he refuses to go to CD. take care
I have 2 brothers that used to this family skit. One was a dead ringer for Billie, and the other one sang just like him. The guys would sit back to back one sang while the other pantomimed! It was such fun. This man is timeless.
For some reason I could just visualize that...another good jazz artist resurfacing during Motown was the great blues singer Amos Milburn and his 1963 single (with the Andantes) "My Baby Gave Me Another Chance"..now I can close my eyes and almost think I'm in 1963..
This song always reminded me of "A PLace in the Sun" by Stevie Wonder...a different era, a seemingly lost magic. They have "The Complete Motown Singles" available on Napster and IMesh..I've downloaded almost 75% of it...and what a world of happiness it has brought to me (born in 1976..but I feel more connections to the years/decades before it..my father's Brooklyn). I have a Mercury records 45 of "Trust in Me" with "Gigi" on the b Side
