One small thing that's important to me thats TOMTOM ignore and where GARMIN pay attention to is AUTO POWER AND MP3 player starts. When you turn off the engine which shuts the GPS power OFF and Turns the engine back ON Garmin knows to auto start the GPS and continue with the MP3 player while the TOM TOM doesn't. This can be important to prevent from manually power on the GPS everytime you start the ignition.
I know the U.S. version of the 720 now has voice recognition. It comes with the Navcore8 update. If you upgrade your 720 or 920 with the new software AND the new 8.15 map, it will have ALL the same features of the newer x30 series. That's voice recognition, IQ routing and advanced lane guidance. If you just want voice, you can stick with your old maps.
Thanks, but I spoke to a TT rep and he stated that this feature has been removed from the US market and the manual has yet to reflect this. The reason it has been removed is because of the different US dialect. For example the citizens of New York have a different dialect than those from Texas.
yes, but that doesn't give them the reason to remove this feature for those who are willing to give it a try. Maybe it might work for those people with certain dialect. I'm sitting here looking for this feature, but I can't find it.
If you purchased your TT in the US Market, that feature has been removed, but your PDF manual says otherwise. I hope someday in the feature TT will once again activivate this feature through updates; That's one of the reason I purchased this product, but I still love it.

blue tooth and hands free are certainly nice extras on this device...speech recognition is really nice to have on this device...

I just bought a new TomTom 920T in Germany and the speech recognition doesn't work on that either. Bloody outrageous for a 400 EUR device!

I've had a TT 910 for about a year now, and I love it. Bluetooth hands-free phone and MP3 player are nice extras.
I have no sense of direction, so I needed a GPS. It was worth every penny as far as I'm concerned. Get one, you won't regret it.

Guys! How do you activate speech recognition on the TT720?
sensor17 4 years ago
select 'Navigate To' from the Main Menu then 'Address'. Then choose 'Spoken address (dialogue)' and you are away!!
I found it easiest to add to 'Quick menu' from preferences so its always on my TomTom screen!! Happy navigating
