  • VRAM does not equal GPU power. Just because one has twice as much, does not mean it is twice as powerful.

  • which would be better for college??

  • @XRANKEDGAMERZ a normal laptop, cause is going to do the same and for half price. And if you are a richfag just go into Alienware if you want the best laptops in market

  • @mcalgar Alienware laptops are not the best on the market.

  • Would an i5 run GTA: San Andreas smoothly on decent graphic settings?

  • @majinimouth99 the recommended requirements for GTA San Andreas is Processor: Intel Pentium 4 or AMD Athlon XP Processor

Memory: 384MB of RAM (the more the better!)

Graphics: 128MB (or greater) Video Card (Geforce 6 Series Recommended)

Hard Drive: 4.7GB of free hard disk space (full install)

Sound Card: DirectX 9 compatible Sound Card (Sound Blaster Auidgy 2 Recommended)

personaly i think the i5 would handle the game very well

  • @majinimouth99 its gonna run better than smooth.

  • @majinimouth99 Yes. No problem!

  • @majinimouth99 Easily on highest settings.

  • nice, i get a 5 in cinnibench LOL

  • Thank you so much

  • @TheKontrolHD - But everyone knows that a Mac uses it's hardware much more efficiently than a 'Windows based' laptop/PC... Douchebag.

  • thank you soo much for making this video!

  • @TheKontrolHD Your way of saying you COULD NOT AFFORD A MACBOOK PRO

  • i5 + SSD is the way I am leaning towards. Of course, I will be installing it myself.

  • I used this video to help me settle on an i5 in a macbook air. Thanks

  • I think i will stick with my 1799 pounds and get a better stationary computer for less money XD

  • But the i5 core is still good for recording games smoothly right?

  • ithink ima go with the macbook pro i5 thanks to you(: youre really cute too o.O

  • muy bueno!

  • Should i Get i5 or i7? im going to be using after effects but im not using an external monitor.

  • i guess I will have to buy the i7 because I think that the i5 couldn't run my design program well (autodesk inventor)

  • go to 15 seconds and pause

  • witch one u think will best fit me im a mobil dj and im tryin to get a macbook pro for my dj programs

  • Thank you that was very helpful :)

  • Great video but it does contain an error.

The i5 does NOT support hyperthreading (it is 4 cores)

The i7 DOES support hyperthreading (it is 4 cores and 4 virtual cores = 8 usable cores).

This makes almost no difference for single threaded apps (most apps) but the i7 will improve multi-tasking and multi threaded apps.

  • I'm starting a home recording studio using protools and other various programs. Would the i7 make that much of a difference for the cost??

  • followed all the rules to enter Blue yeti Mic giveaway and hope i win because just made my new channel and started posting new videos and it would be really really great if i won that Mic because i live outside of US and it is really expensive here and i wanted to boost my sound quality in my videos.

  • i am getting the 15 inc with the i7 8 gb of ram and a high res screen sweet

  • What is SSD and how much does it cost?

  • I'm looking at the 13 inch mbp and I can't decide between i5 with an upgrade to 8GB or the i7 with 4GB. Can someone help me with which one would be better for me? I mostly use it to watch a lot of TV (streaming) constant internet/email use, and basic office programs like word and excel are running a lot too. photoshop sometimes, but not consistently

  • @kat253 The i5 is more than enough to suit your needs. I'd go with the i5.

  • I7

  • greed

  • always go for the 1680x1050 option!

  • face made of food??

  • thank you so muchh dudeeeee. i have i5 and after one mounth used i wanted to see some testes. thanks a lot, is better , clear and profesional you test. love u job.

    thanxxxxx

  • I received an MBP 15 i5 with the anti glare screen and the 7400RPM 500GB HD and it's awesome!

  • *hand raised* excuse me, did you say the hard drive shouldn't matter in terms of benchmarks? Uh..you do know that things such as drive paging and access for system files will affect your outcome - naturally, they boost application performance and file access times, thus you will see increased performance over a platter drive.

  • question: i know mac os x lion will come out in 2011, i think in summer. But also if i buy a snow leopard running macbook, will they be able to be updated to mac os lion for free then ?

  • Thanks for your great review!

I don't know if I should buy the 5i or 7i. I currently have the Macbook Aluminum and it gets very slow from time to time. I work on my Mac about 10 hours a day and later watch DVDs so it runs about all the time... I alway have a lot of programs working the same time (Pages, Numbers, Firefox, Mail, Tweetdeck, Itunes, NetNewsWire etc.). I use image software sometimes but not in a professional way. Do you have a suggestion?

    Thanks a lot, Claudia

  • Do you really need 7200 RPM for music software like ableton, logic etc? cause i am on a budget and the laptops for 5400 rpm are within my budget or should I save up and get that added, and again im not sure whether spending extra money on uni work like photoshop, pro tools, flash, java programming, video editing etc should i put in the extra cash for an i7? and i dont understand the SSD how much does that cost to install and is it recommended? could use some help please, thanks

  • Hey im looking into getting a laptop but i would like it to be really fast. In another video it sounded like u said that a ddr3 8gb would show the incresed speed more. Or a solid state? Idk im confused but i would like a fast laptop for music production.

  • I watched this video and other comparison videos for about almost a year now and FINALLY I bought a core i7. I' have to say this thing is smooth as butter (minus the little pesky bugs ). When downloading or streaming movies, its fast but combine it with a fast connection and you're talking Flash Gordon. I agree 100% that this computer is NOT for people who just wanna surf webs, watch video. This is strictly for artist professionals like myself in the arts field. But if you got money go for it!

  • buy the i7

because if you buy apple stuff you obviously dont have a clue about anything or have enough money

  • For video editing like In final cut what should I go with I5 or I7

  • Great Video!! This video helped me decide to go ahead and purchase the i7. I ran Geekbench 64 this morning and received a score of 6388!!

  • Which do you think I should get glossy or the antiglare which is better. Thanks.

  • Can you do a Core i5 2.53ghz vs Core i7 2.66ghz benchmark comparisons? Also will I see a marginal performance bump over the 2.40ghz Core i5, if I go ahead and take the 2.53ghz Core i5 instead? Thank You

  • This video actually did help me. I'll be getting the i5 on my Macbook Pro 15 inch. :-)

  • should i wait until the next mac book pro comes out cause when i bought ipod touch 3 generation 3 days later 4 generation came out and im like WHAT THE HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so what do u think guys

  • Finally got my i5, love my life<3

  • Thanks for the good review. This really helped me to choose wich macbook to buy. I'll go with the i5

  • @Nr1eide why next generation i7 always better than previous generation reply back wat u think

  • first time i buy a mac i can see much more than a pc notebook

so is not great like i 've think

mac has many stupid fan that speak about it

i don t know before but now is not a great notebook i ll sel it and take a dell core i7

  • Im getting the i7 :) Thanks for the information.

  • What song is that?

  • very good review.. thanks! :D

  • great review! explained things I was to know in 3mins while apple employees gave me pointless answers

  • Thanks for the vid...nice to see some of the more intensive application comparisons. I think it's funny how much we act like the performance difference is so important. probably just over 18 to 2 years ago we were running crap that was light years slower and we were just fine with it. I have a PC running a dual core at like 2.0 Ghz or a little higher, integrated video and it pushes an HDMI out running a 720P vid on my 42inch TV just fine. can't wait to get my i7 mac book pro though fo' sure

  • I think I will be getting the i5 2.4Ghz, and take the glossy hi-res screen! I think I will consider purchasing the SSD like you said :) thanks! I use a laptop all the time (programming, webdesign) but I think I will still manage with this great MacBook Pro!

  • Thanks, that was concise and completely helped me make up my mind to get the i5!

  • mate i want to ask you if i put windows the hyper threading is goin to disapera or what?

  • very good

  • you made the i5 looks ugly

i have i5 and it boots faster than yours

  • nice!

  • what is a best choice to save money and not over spend? i want to use pro tools 8...will the i5 be good enough?

  • I was just wondering i was gonna get the i7 and i was just wondering where to get that from if you know

  • Intel Core i7 920 OC to 3.5 GHz

    Radeon 5770 1 GB

Only 3 GB ddr3 right now (upgrading soon)

on a x57 Platinum Board MSI

    Thermal Read on Motherboard.

    4 Blue L.E.D Fans

The Motherboard ive got is equipped with pure copper heat sink. ( :D)

  • what about hardcore gaming

  • I went with the i5 and let me tell you, its freaking fast. As for i7 I care not because I don't do intense stuff but perhaps in the future i'll get it just to be on top. For now, I'm happy with my i5. Defiantly better than my old laptop which was core duo 2.

  • i have a macbook pro mid 2009 2.53..

i saw that mid 2009 and 2010 i5 15'' have the same cables inside.. so i found a i5 motherboard... i m thinking to buy it an install it...

so 2010 motherboard into a 2009 macbook pro.. dont know ...i m thinking this ll work.......

  • I'm gonna be using this for music recording, music playing, music composing, honework, and internet. Basically gonna be my recording laptop. should i go i5 or i7?

  • Ummm My PC has 3.2 GHz (I5) 4GB of ram, Ati Radeon HD4890 and so on...guess what im trying to say that it is very nice...so buy an i5...

  • @tldtoday Hey, I'm going to start Uni soon and I'm doing a computing with multimedia course so I wondering if a MBP i5 should be enough to meet my needs?

I will be doing some video editing, digital animations and some computing stuff. Thanks.

  • I want the 15" i5 2.53 ghz model

  • Thanks for your help!

    Decided Now thanks to you!

    Brilliant!!

  • I wanted to know if buy December this year if there will be a new macbook or in the near future?

  • Hey man, Its great that you are putting up these videos. Helps me decide. I am mostly into 3d modelling and rendering (interior designer). I already have a hefty desktop which is my current work station. I do a need a laptop now for presentations and work , was thinking of the 15" i7. How do you think will i7 handle work of that sort - rendering softwares like maxwell? I was thinking, If i am spending on a laptop, might aswell spend it on a solid processor so it becomes my alternative workhorse.

  • I'm going to be using this for video editing with Final Cut Studio, and I'm going to install parallels and use After Effects and Sony Vegas, which one would you recommend out of all the 15 inch models

  • whats with your mouth dude?

Looks like you try and talk like pitbull

  • Thanks for the vid, it really cleared some things up. I'm curius how they'd perform with 7200rpm drives.

  • Thanks SO MUCH for these vids bro. you just saved me 300 dollars off the bat. Kudos to you friend.

  • Hey awesome video TLD!I am almost convinced that my next PC is gonna be a Macbook.I am a student and i use my computer for "intense" web browsing, presentations, torrent dloading, movies and some medium to intense(mostly) gaming. So what do u think?i5 or i7?And smthing else.Is it really true that there is no virus problem? And can u tell me when do u think the new generation of mbs and mb pros is gonna be?Thx!!!!

  • Trying to choose betweeb Core 2 Duo 2.4 and i7 2.66 because its like I think an $800 difference. The most powerfull stuff Ill be doing is HD home video editing but Im just in high school so I dunno if I need the extra power for that much money (Id rather get the LED display or 2 non apple monitors....)

  • would the core i5 be good for web browsing, ichatting , youtube, and school work?

  • @kiimbur it's too good for that basic stuff. save urself some cash and get something else if u don't plan on doing anything that this computer is meant for (if u still want a mac, go with a low end macbook).

  • @paulcky411

    ive always wanted one

so im getting one no matter what :)

  • Your shirt: 63

  • very nice real world examples. well done. I agree with the conclusions too.

  • Thanks for the video. I felt even better after buying my i5. Nice

  • Between getting a mac pro that's 8gb ddr3, 2.66ghz, i5, or i7 which one would be best if i' planning to load alot of materials on it like games, music, videos, pictures. What do you think would be best compatible with all those function for a pretty decent price? I know i5 and i7 is pretty higher priced, but is it that much more fast then the 2 core duo with 8gb or 2.66ghz?

  • is a 15 i5 better than a 17 i5 or is the 17 better for like internet borwsing

  • Hey great video really helped as I wish to get a mbp in the next week for my son's birthday. But I have no idea of what to get the 128 gb ssd drive or the i7 model. I know he likes to play call of duty and go on facebook and do a little work for uni. Which one should I get.

  • @dragonslug93 the be honest the i5 should suit him perfect, the SSD is nice but I recommend getting it outside of apple and installing it yourself. really though, the i5 model with 4GB of RAM and 7200 RPM HD should suit him great.

  • @tldtoday I decided to get the i7 and let him decide to get the ssd if he wants, but thanks for your advise and your video they're really helpful but can you tell me if the speck cases are good for your macbook pro?

  • i going buy the 17 inch model with intel core i7 aboutt mm 3 years

  • @MultiVladimir12 they'll be updated by then!

  • @tldtoday i wanna buy either the 17" or 15" both with i7, i was wondering whether i needed to get the 8gb ram upgrade as i like to play games and thought this may effect them. Oh and is it worth getting the hi res screen for 15"?

    thanks

  • @tldtoday thats the great thing about it technology getting better and better. im not glad that i cant always keep up with the high price laptops every year, but im excited that i always have a choice on whether i want to upgrade or not; because new stuff are released.

  • hey man neat video, very helpful. I'm saving up for the 15" model and almost have enough to get the i5 now, but the i7 is quite a bit more money and I'm not sure if it would be worth the extra time saving up for the next model. I'm starting university in september, doing a biology masters so I'll mostly be using it for that, what are your recommendations? should i go for the i5 or should i try and save up a little more (and therefore not go to uni with much savings) and go for the i7?

  • @joshmaher16 What's all the tasks you'll be doing??

  • @tldtoday mostly the usual like web browsing and stuff, presentations and documents, doubt i'll do too much intensive stuff but i may do a little of that

  • @joshmaher16 for what you do, the i5 would be perfect :) with the money you save I'd invest in buying an SSD and that would feel much faster than the i7 would plus the i5 runs cooler and you'll get better battery life and with an SSD that thing would scream!! :)

  • @tldtoday that's exactly what i was thinking of doing! would the i5 with an SSD be much faster than the i7? But that certainly seems like the best option I just hope SSDs come down a little in price lol, I'd probably want a 256gb one but they're so expensive, but I was hoping to tri-boot it with linux and windows so I would need the extra space realistically. But thanks for your advice! I've subscribed btw, your videos are ace (Y)

  • @tldtoday for some reason my comment didn't go through :-S

But yeah that's exactly what I was thinking of doing- buying an SSD. Would the i5 with an SSD seriously outperform the i7 and if so by how much? It's just that SSDs are so expensive still, and I really am looking for a 256gb SSD as I was hoping to tri-boot my mac with linux and windows 7. I guess I could turn the 320gb HD it ships with into an external HD though but 128gb only gives me 40gb per partition.. and that's not really enough!

  • @Rayman731 The i5 or i7 are both gonna be about the same for gaming since it's a 15" screen :) so you can save some $ and get the i5

  • Great review... I've got hold of a 15" MacBook Pro 2.4 GHz i5 for a great deal off ebay with microsoft cashback 8% ($1471) !!

I took your advice and with the money I saved went ahead & got the 8GB memory ($183) with a 160GB SSD which was an intel X25-M G2 ($266)...this Mac has replaced my DELL XPS which is older than Gods Dog! and absolutely blows it away!! so now I have the quality of a Mac that also dual boots Windows 7...Thanks

  • @the10thplanet That's a SICK setup! :) congrats man :D

  • Thanks for the advice! I want a Mac Book Pro that can handle long hours of Photoshop, FCP and After effects work. Definately thinking of getting the 15" i7.

  • @jobow Glad I can help :)

  • im going to do light gaming youtube videos, photoshop im going to use screenflow would the 2.4ghz i5 be enough for me?

  • @capacop01 for sure! :) it'd be perfect!

  • very nice video! really helped me a lot. But if you can get back to me with an answer to this question, i'd greatly appreciate it!

I'm going to be majoring in Film/Video in college and right now, I'm choosing between the 3 macbook pros. As far as the software goes, we will be using Final Cut Pro. if I buy the i5 2.4GHz, would that be sufficient enough to use for that purpose? I am a little tight with the budget, but If I NEED to get the i7 for Final Cut Pro then i guess i'll just hav to save up

  • @CedricandCompany The i5 will handle FCP more than good :) More important than the i7 is making sure you get a 7200RPM HD for Video editing, but if you can get the i7 it'd be the best long term choice since you are majoring.

  • @tldtoday Thanks so much!!! I really appreciate it!

  • I've heard some issues of screen freezes in the core I processors has this really been an issue...

  • @JesterMayhone nope! :) haven't had that.

  • Great Show! Good pacing w/ tons of info. Keep up the good work. :-)

  • @talltravis79 Thanks ! I appreciate that :)

  • is the i7 better for aoutocad?? or the i5 works the same?

  • @chukath i7 would be better for autocad definately

  • @chukath for sure the i7 would be better :)

  • Never compare laptop processors, it gives a bad name to the REAL desktop processor

  • @MrNukesftw er? no?

  • i dont know alot about memory, so i'm hoping that you can help me with deciding on either getting a mac pro with 8gb ddr3 or a 2.66ghz, which one would be better?

  • @kellile7788 what kind of tasks are you going to be doing???

  • hey johnathan. i like ur vids, but i have a question. i plan on using my laptop for school work: emails, youtube, word, excell, powerpoint. stuf like that. no heavy movie/video editing, no gaming. would you recomend the 2.4 i5 or the 2.53 i5? will those .13ghz make a big difference in speed? battery? thanks

  • @3dytko3 the .13GHz is gonna provide no "real world difference" and not worth the money. With the money you save I'd invest in an SSD, THAT would feel way faster than an extra .13GHz :)

  • Thanks, man. I have enough money for the 2.4ghz now, but I wasn't sure if I should save more and buy the i7 for the extra gaming power. After seeing the gaming benchmark, along with some other videos of gaming on both computers, I am getting my 2.4GHz i5 MBP on Friday!

  • @MBP6705 Glad I could have helped! did you pick it up already??

  • @tldtoday Yep, I got the the 2.4GHz Core i5! CoD4 under OS X looks great! I just got done installing Windows XP in Boot Camp and am getting MW2 and Pre-Ordering Black Ops tomorrow. I couldn't be happier! Thanks!

  • Hey tldtoday, GREAT vid. Thanks for your help. I wanted to ask you a question (sorry if it's been asked before like a million times)

I'll be using the MBP for lots of programming, surfing the web, learning photoshop, dreamweaver, maybe some illustrator, running bootcamp, watching HD movies, not much else.

    What do you think I should get: 2.4 i5, 2.53 i5, or 2.66 i7?

Thanks man, and keep it up.

  • @owlbabu I think for your tasks, the 2.4 i5 would be the sweet spot. With the money you save you can upgrade to an SSD and that'd be a truly awesome, speedy, responsive setup :)

  • So, if i used my computer just for browsing youtube etc like you said, would it be a waste of money if i got the hi end one, would i see the difference

  • i think the pro wouldn't really be necessary for you to spend your money on then. I would just go with the original MacBook. :) Hope this helped.

  • @ghettogazz ) the i5 would be the way to go

  • oh and #3 why i am gettin a new laptop is becuase mine is soooooooooooooooooooo slow!!!!!!!!!! i was just looking at photos and watching a movie and it was freezing and before i had nothing up but itunes and was listing to music and it was skiping on high performace thats just sad!!!!!!

  • the screen on my 17" only has 1440 by 900 the 15" macbook pro with the high res screen is 1680 by 1050 and the non high res is 1440 by 900 thats the same as my 17" on a 15"

  • my dell is almost 3 years old and the battery only last if im luck 1 hour 30 min on power saver it has always been like that even when first baught it :(

  • cant wait gonna be a long wait to save the money just decided to get a new laptop my current laptop is a dell inspiron 1720 so 17" by the way weights more than 8 pounds:( with Intel core2duo 1.66GHz and 2 GB ram and Intel integrated graphics and a 160 gb hd i only have 32.8GB left on it When i get the money gettin the 15" macbook pro hi-res glossy screen 2.66GHz i7 and 500GB 7200 rpm 4GB ram i cant wait the big desision for me to switch to mac is 1 quality and 2 my horrible experience with vista

  • @2010pspgo sick setup :)

  • WHATS FASTER: I7, 500GB@ 7200, 4GB RAM OR I5 2.53 128 SSD 4GB RAM?????

    same price

  • Comment removed

  • @gazherbert7 the i7 would be faster for rendering, ect but the i5 would "feel" faster because of the SSD.

  • @tldtoday I got the i7!

  • hey man.. quick question.. i was just wondering, exporting in handbrake and very moderate after effects, how the 2.53 i5 would hold up to the i7?

  • @tat3rooski It'd hold up very well, it'd just go slightly slower :)

  • helpful video man!

  • @faizanhaqquee1 Thanks :)

  • If it is already 1440 by 900, how can you get it much high res-ier

  • thanks to u i am buying the 2.53 ghz model with matte Finnish and the core i5

  • @boss351nyny awesome! :) did you get it yet!?

  • @TeddyLeroux The 2.4 i5 would be more than good enough. With the money saved you could put it to an SSD and a nice external FW800 HD :)

  • Cool vids, thanks !

    but i have a question,

i will buy a macbook pro next week, a 17 inch, but i don't know if it will be a i7 or i5

i will use it for programming ( on the apple sdk : for iphone and ipad apps ), for movies, gaming on windows ( with boot camp or parrallels desktop ), for photoshop and after effects ...

what to your recommend me to buy ?

PS : sorry for my bad english, I'm french ;)

  • @GuitarGrizzy If you are using after effects you would really benefit from the i7 :) not only a faster CPU but a GPU boost as well :)

  • Cheers..keep up the good work.:)

  • you're making great vids man!

    good job :)

  • Nice video.

But my question would be if i wanted stuff like gaming, movie editing, etc, will the i7 be right?

  • @yashb94 If you aren't doing HEAVY movie editing then the i5 would still kick ass, run cooler and give you a little better battery life :)

  • i have ask A LOT of questions about the mbp but i swear im not trolling.

i am ripped apart about the i5 and i7 and which one i should get. i do like performance but i am more out fot the best bang for my buck, money is TIGHT. as a hobby and hope to be my career i do game development/ animation. will the base model i5 suit me or will i have to go i7? the less i pay student loans the better. My primary software for my hobby is Blender.

  • @goldaceofspades The extra video ram and processing would probably suit you better to be honest. If you order from macmall or amazon you save $100-$200 on tax alone. I made a video on that if you wanna check it out :)

  • @tldtoday thx for the advice! i compared the two sites macmall has the best bang for the buck if you go stock but charge around 125-175 for matte screen and matched the price of the apple store with the student discount. i just got my ECSU id card and i just got the money for my student loans so im going to the apple store in 2 weeks. il post my unboxing of my new i7 mbp soon!! still clicked on the link it if helps. also working on a game on a fps if you want to review it! mac version!

  • @goldaceofspades that'd be sweet to review :)

  • helpful

  • im heading to art college this year and i want to buy a macbook for graphic design programmes.which would you recommend?

  • @madwiganer49 the i5 should be plenty powerful for graphic design but if you can afford the i7 then it'll do the job that much better :)

  • I'll be choosing either the i5 or i7 for an art school (emphasis in writing scripts and movie editing). I also use photoshop alot. What's your take?
