This take is WAY better than the album version. I wish this recorded clearer and uploaded at a higher quality setting... it sounds amazing grainy, but it would be fucking spectacular if it was in 480 or 720.
although i hade'nt heard this in months, as i was riding motorcycle last few days thru Grand Tetons and Yellowstone my brain began to be obsessed with this piece. Now at hotel and listening....it just seems right and i dont know why. Lets just loop it!
I was in NYC on a biz trip. My colleague wanted to go to a jazz concert and asked me to accompany her, saying I should not let a female walk alone at night in Manhattan. I was not at all into jazz but I had do go with her reluctantly. That was my first encounter with Hiromi. I was blown away. Since then I was Hiromi’s loyal fan…
by the way one of the best perfomances of this rythm section .tottaly destroying everything.another state of groove.... .almost unbelievable.bast bass performance for real too!
IMO synth sound in this song is her image of 70's or 80's kung-fu movies' weird sound effects among fighting scenes by Jackie Chen,Bruce Lee and more actors.
Also I felt some phrases are Chinese image from Japanese people's view.
I like this run-through better than the studio version. Very well done.
I just saw Hiromi play live with the Stanley Clarke trio last week.....phenomenal. You can't go wrong with Stanley Clarke, Ruslan Sirota, Chris Coleman, and Hiromi. Probably the most energetic set I've ever seen in my life.
i call them ARTISTS ;) martin valihora with a long hair? ;) doesnt matter, they re just perfect... and HE IS SLOVAK!!! LIKE I AM ;)))) we are very proud of him!!!
The pocket starting at 3:40 is nasty. So I've seen a few videos of Himomi now, and my sexist side has never once said "not bad for a woman". Fusion may have found a replacement for Chick, on the sad day he retires.
Haha, you are funny! I just thought because... Your comment means something like "Please don't make it too spicy!" (in Korean, not Japanese...) Enjoy your time!
Hahahaha, yaaa, now I remember, I have some Korean friends who barely speak English, and I was learning some Korean one day, and for some reason I put that as a comment! hahaha, I looove Hiromi though, soo amazing.
incredible!!! thats why i stopped listening to almost all guitar players ,and listen to Allan Holdsworth now!! Just from a another planet feel!! if you think this is caotic listen to Ron Jarzombek or Spastic ink !!!
These are all incredible musicians, but personally I'd rather hear more melodic songwriting, like a Pat Methany/Lyle Mays or Ivan Lins tune. I respect these players to the max but it's not what I'd call "beautiful"...just my opinion.
Big fan of Pat Methany here too. Hiromi is a fireball, but she also has more melodic songs at her disposal. Listen to "Green Tea Farm", "Wind Song", "Deep into the Night" and my favorite "Time Flies".
I discovered fusion jazz 2 weeks ago with Pat Metheny and know Im watching this for the first time. Its an awesome revelation that gives me a thrill.
My question is actually if this still can be called fusion jazz, because theres not much jazzy sound left in here... But thats a person talking who knows the genre for just 2 weeks.

I think this is brilliant, its not really confusing at all compared to other stuff i have heard, there are some sections where it gets kind of annoying (just before it goes back to the head at the end for example) but this is still an awesome peice of music.
Awesomeness!!! This sorta of music if played by advanced deep space aliens wont be out of sorts. Heck, wouldn't be surprised if the aliens adopt this as their national anthem...
I suppose most people would classify this as Jazz or Fusion, but that won't really help you find other music in the same vein. Perhaps the closest you will find is fusion from the late 60's and early 70's by bands like Return to Forever, Weather Report, Miles Davis or Herbie Hancock. If you like the synth work, look into ELP and George Duke. Hiromi's heros were Chick Corea and Oscar Peterson among other keyboard giants (also Bruce Lee hence the title of this piece).
> Just because she's good, doesn't mean everyone likes it.
And just because you don't like it, doesn't mean that this music is "confusing", "chaotic" or "annoying". Please go back to listening to Britney or n'sync or whatever floats your little rubber ducky.
@Hawke; "Looks like I shouldn't post a different perspective about these dreams anymore, for it will only shatter them." -- You're one of -those- people, aren't you. :P
