i cut my hair for a cancer thing when i was 12 but i dont remember which one tho. i was too busy crying cos my hair was so short! haha now im an adult and my hair hasnt been able to grow back !! haha
Locks of Love is a scam. They don't meet the Better Business Bureau's Standards for Charity Accountability. They have stated that they collect around 2000 ponytails a week, that's over 100,000 ponytails a year. They say it takes 6 to 10 ponytails to make one wig. If we say 10 that would be over 10,000 wigs per year. The have been in business since 1997 and have only made over 2000 wigs in over 10 years. Less than 1% goes to alopecia patients (NOT cancer patients) and even that has to be paid.
LoL also states, on their own website that the kids' (who suffer alopecia, not chemo baldness - no cancer connection here) families must PAY for the hairpieces. If you wish to help sick people it is much more useful to donate money.
@litaaq2 Locks of love claims it costs $3500 to $6000 and takes up to 10 pony tails to make a wig. Thats odd since I can go on Ebay right now and buy human hair wigs for under $200 each. My onchologist told me not to bother donating my long hair because none of his patients ever got a wig from them.
@shatros I have bought human hair extensions and discovered with some research that a large percentage of human hair extensions and wigs are grown in laboratories and without strict restrictions are still able to be called human hair thats why they are substantially less because they are after all still synthetic at least in the way they were maid
@itsasexytime2 First of all, while it may be possible to grow some human hair in a laboratory to some extent, it is not possible to grow it to the point that it would be commercially viable. A wig from human hair grown in a laboratory would cost hundreds of times the price of a wig made from authentic human hair of the highest quality from several donors. Second, synthetic human hair is easily distinguishable from real human hair under a microscope.
@itsasexytime2 Thirdly, you don't actually need a microscope. Take a strand of authentic hair and grasp it between your thumb and forefinger and pull it through one direction, then pull it back the other way and you will find that there is friction going in one direction and not the other. Only authentic human hair will do this. Synthetic is smooth when pulled in either direction, this is because synthetic is jus on single strand of fiber where real hair is made up of many layered cells.
@itsasexytime2 It is illegal to market synthetic hair as authentic human hair. If you bought hair labled as human hair but found it to be synthetic and you bought it on Ebay you should have gotten a refund from Paypal as you were ripped off. In any event, my coments stands. I know at least one person who had a wigmaker make a wig from their own hair which was 3 feet long. They cut it into 18 inch strands and the total cost was $500 and the wig looked great. This was the makers normal price

Most of the hair donated does not end up on a child's head. It ends up being sold to commercial wigmakers. If you really want to help people with cancer, donate money to the American Cancer Society. Locks of Love is a scam.
Locks of Love receives more hair that they actually use to make wigs for cancer patients.
Locks of Love SELLS the suplus hair for CASH! How much are they selling the hair for? In 2005, they sold $352,401 of hair! In 2005, they received $552,554 in contributions. They also do not give out every wig for free, they charge juvenile cancer patients according to their parent's income level. So they take people's hair and they take money from dying kids.
disgusting. A perfect example of how the locks of love "long hair is sick" myth is perpetuated by women who can't grow long beautiful hair and are sooo jealous.
or even better...Try to find someone who has been given a wig by LoL... That will be a difficult task... but you will find plenty of gullable young girls having their hair hacked off by LoL
You shouldn't have done that. Locks of Love is a money-hungry organization that sells most of the hair donated. Out of the thousands of people who donated their hair, in 2003 alone only 113 wigs were made and given out. That means there's a 99% chance your hair will not be on the head of some poor kid and probably on like Paris Hilton's head instead. If you don't believe me check on Wikipedia for yourself.
I think when p
