You're both right! Just get rid of your strange little pride issues here. Her tone, in other recordings, is lovely. Something about this specific one, whether it was her nails that day, or the mic being too close to the guitar, is a bit tinny sounding. Could be the EQ as much as anything. If we look at this objectively, we can learn from it. Otherwise, people just get offended, and then how much further are we in life? The composition is awesome, her technique is great
i think this is a wonderful performance of a spectacular piece! i've read several comments about the sound, and perhaps it is a little thin, but it works! i am studying this piece as well, and this is the version that i refer to quite often. i have to believe that mr. koshkin's wife performs this exactly the way that he intends it to be performed!
@christianTluciani I have clinical depression, mainly because some arsonist burned my home down. My four year girl was killed along with my boy. I try to keep myself in tact by learing how to play guitar. So i express my feelings alot. And i always get shit from some asshole about acting immature. But whatever.
Wow. The guitarist's beauty definitely augments the unbalanced, tottering rhythm and melody of this piece. More aggressive, certainly, than Anna Likhacheva's mellow and masterful performance; whereas, Miss LIkhacheva's performance could be interpreted as a learned and insightful commentary on madness, this one seems to show you what the real thing might look like. I love it. Please continue.
I love this version.... it's like the music is half a step away from completely unraveling and then those ghostly harmonics come in. Sublime! John Williams version is good but, imho, is far too restrained. This is why Koshkin's music has reaffirmed my love of the guitar! I think Asya Selyutina should record all of Koshkin's works and have it available as a set... I would buy it in a heartbeat.
I'm a novice player, but I know what I enjoy and appreciate. This was a wonderful performance. Thanks for posting. Oh, my instructor gave me this piece several weeks ago...It will be a long, enjoyable, project for me.
well, i´ve heard many different renditions of this piece - but this one´s the most defenite version. regarding poe´s tale pictured in this piece, the harsh and naily sound of her playing fits absolutely perfect. i´m quite sure this just what koshkin imagined when he wrote this valse.
@nkoshkin There's no need to be sarcastic. Why are you taking it personally? Is this you playing? Before I viewed the video I couldn't possibly know how it would sound. Therefore you saying 'don't listen then' is stupid, I have to listen at least once before I can form an opinion. And if it pleases you, I haven't listened to this since my comment, nor will I listen again. Peace.
@SingHouse Please, don't listen to this video again. And no more comments from You. My comment is not stupid. It is a very good advise. If You can't stand anything, don't come to it again. I'm taking personally everything what is touching my music.
I'll comment as much as I like. You can't censor me. Your comment was stupid, mine was relevant. And I don't believe for a minute you are Nikita Koshkin. I didn't even criticise the music anyway, just the player's naily sound.
@SingHouse I'm not censoring You. This Your statement is as stupid as the rest of Your commentaries. Asya's sound is not naily, not at all. May be it is the fault of Your computer, or may be - Your stupid ears, may be - lack of experience or could be also just disgusting character which pushes You to put some senceless commentaries. I don't know. But You are wrong and Your stubbornness makes it even worse. I am Nikita Koshkin and Asya Selyutina is my wife for already 11 years. Please, go away.
@nkoshkin I'm just saying her sound is naily. I just listened again on a different audio set up but it's definitely naily. It could be the recording, but she sounds a bit like a flamenco player. it's not my personal preference, that's all. I don't believe you are Nikita Koshkin by the way.
@SingHouse He ìs Nikita Koshkin himself, but I think you are so right. Her tone is thin/harsh/naily, but I think Koshkin won't admit this because she's his wife.
One advice: if you put a video online that means that everyone can watch it AND comment it. Everyone can give
his/her opinion and you just have to deal with that. If you don't want comments, then just disable it...
@ClassicalGas91 I won't admit this nonsence because I know Asya's sound not from what the PC gives out. I listen to her playing every day. Sometimes she can sound harsh because she is a very powerful player. But her tone is not thin and not naily.
It was not me who put the video online. It's not on my channel. So I cannot operate with the comments, I cannot disable them or delete or whatever... I can only express my opinion together with the others. Same as You do or anybody else.
Great performance of one of my favorite pieces. When I first heard this piece it was like an amazing musical revelation. It still is! Thanks Nikita & Asya.
i heard/saw john williams play this and not only did i hate is purple shirt but i hated the way he butured part of the song. Asya you bring justice to this song. Thank you.
A very effective presentation visually, but the tone is thin. That's because her right-hand stroke should be from the large knuckle, but it's from the second and third joints. For example, see 0:32 - 0:34, where her large knuckle is actually pulling her fingers back from the strings while her smaller joints are moving in the opposite direction. Sorry, but that's bad technique and you can hear it in her tone. I know I'll get flamed for criticizing a beautiful woman, but that's the way it is.
You got a point there. But I think it's not necesarrily bad technique, more a matter of personal taste. I think the strong tone as nkoshkin calls it, suits Asya's style and is very effective in this piece. But I agree with you that it's a rather harsh sound. Myself, I would prefer a warmer sound too. With more flesh and less nail.
@Gitarobert This is pointless discussion. Both of You sounds like music school teacher who doesn't want to accept great playing of the pupil of another teacher. Best interpretation of my "Usher-Waltz"! I've never heard anybody else playing this piece like that! And about the sound I can give an advice. Come to Asya's concert. Listen to the quality of her sound directly, live. Not through the machines connected with the wires and all the other electronic sources provided the internet.
@nkoshkin Maybe I didn't articulate it clearly in my previous post, but I do have the utmost respect for this interpretation by Asya. And Gurochkin's production quality is superb as well.
Asya, you take performing the classical guitar her on the TouTube to a whole different standard using modern state of the art technology but it would have meant nothing if not your playing was top notch as well....which it is! Love you!!!!
Gurochkin, your work is exquisite and of the highest quality, only matched by the performance of the artiste you choose to show us. Please don't stop and may you have lots of success. You deserve it!
Thank you very much and a large applause to the artist.
