Trace Elliot is now a PEAVEY CRAP product! They are NOT the same as the older amps that really rocked (from back in the 90's)!! I REFUSE to buy ANYTHING with the name PEAVEY on it!!
@Pinstripedtie Didn't know Peavey bought them. I have an old Trace 7215 that is a complete animal but haven't tried any new ones.
BTW, why would you not buy Peavey? I have a backup Bass head that has been abused for years and it just keeps going... It has even rolled down a flight of stairs and still sounds better than almost anything else I've ever had. :)
@quehannaband OLD Trace and OLD Peavey stuff is basically very good. It's all the new stuff out that SUCKS!!! I used own gear from each company and never had a problem. Now that there are new standars to get gear out for cheaper and to find the cheapest parts a company can... they are having to warranty more and more gear!! I just can't believe these companies can't figure this stuff out in advance of making such a poor move. Moronic if you ask me. Don't believe me?? Do your own research!!
@Pinstripedtie Wow... I had no idea the new stuff was so bad, but I guess it makes sense. Chinese, Indonesian, and Vietnamese electronics are the name of the game now in instruments, seemingly.
The only two really great amps or combos I've had over the past 7 years or so, beside the aforementioned old Peavey, have been a Hartke HA3500/VX215 (which i sold due to size of the cab - no need for something that big) and my Trace. The Trace is here for life. With my Warwick, I shred the mix.
@quehannaband@quehannaband Guess what?? Even MarkBass has been having NUMEROUS problems with a lot of their gear coming in on warranty!! I had to LMT 800 heads that fried on me in less than 40 days!! Now go ask Guitar Center and they will tell you that MarkBass is not standing behind their warranty anymore. I even tried contacting them when it happened to me and they basically answered my email with a bunch of hog wash nonsense!! the bottom line is, that they would not fix the heads.
also, the eden head i have in mind has a 880 watt rating for max power. the cab i like the look of is the (trace elliot) 1084 which has a higher out put level than the amp head. does this mean that i have to get a head with larger output?
I own Trace Elliot amp & cabs, smaller than these ones (300 W + 1x15" + 2x10") but the sound is basically the same. IMO, empty on the lows and with tons of mids. Is it the amp or the enclosures? What should I change first, to get rid of all those mids? I like mids but these are excessive
My green light is dim compared to this one. My Trace is a tank! - It fell from three feet down from a stage, crushing my rackmount tuner in the process, but the Trace ran on like a diesel engine. Enjoy the Scuba Cult.
I had an old ah350x, it played better than this thing. This sound have no qualities, but i think it's the user that plays with no enough work on controls
It's a shame the mics clipping and compressing itself but you get the jist.
The 12 band heads are valve state and come with a drive "channel" if you will to be turned on or off by footswitch and even blended in with normal sound.
So you can get some warmth or even drive for some natural overdrive.
I need an amp that has the Chris Squire bite !! I also use Roland PK5-A midi bass pedals. Can I use my bass guitar and bass pedals at the same time with this amp? Inputs are vital. I am comparing Trace Elliot amps to the Ampeg SVT-4PRO. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
personally i think ashdown is one of the most overrated bass amp makers. It depends what kinda head you have and the sound your lookin for...from experience my favorite tone with the most power and least weight is the ampeg classic 4x10 and the ampeg classic 1x15 speaker...those can kill a bunny with there low end and the sparkle on the top is ridiculous...
i also have an old trace head - 70's 500. thing weighs like 70 lbs... and it's a solid state amp. build like a TANK. the tone is amazing too. can really grind w/ the funk. i like aguilar as well... but they are completely different beasts. i use the aggie for more rock driven stuff. but trace clean tones are so pretty it makes you wanna cry mang.
strings make a big diff. On my bass for example, I'm pluckin .058 tapewounds (F-9120). They feel funny and take some getting use to, but man o'man do they shape well! unbelievable sound dexterity.....and last forever under standard tunings. less than 30$ a year unless you are stupid.
its kinda twangy. I stay away from big names and stick to small companies. right now i have a yorkvlle 800w head into an 810 and man that thing kicks!
I have a Peavey Cirrus 4 (walnut/bubinga), and I play through an older Trace Elliot. It is THE best bass tone EVER !! Old Trace Elliot is the "Mark King" tone. The Peavey Cirrus kicks ass !!!!
Each to his own. I personally don't like the "mark King" tone. I like MY Ampeg SVT2(non-pro) & the tone I get from that & my Precision w/ flats AND my Stingray w/ rounds!
Doesn't Doug Wimbish of Living Colour favor the Trace Elliot AH 1000-12 Head???? I would really like to hear that Ashdown M500 Mark King Signature Series Bass Amp Head you have sitting in at the store!
I do hearya, you can EQ that into your tone so that a "S.S." amp will cut BUT... I do address how the tube pre/bit-o-grit with the Trace 12 Band amp helps to grind through a band setting a bit better... that should be up by tomorrow night :)
Fair enough. But I've tried MANY hybrid amps & they just aint for me. Tried Ampeg, Eden, T.E., Mark Bass & NONE f 'em impressed me. Sure nice amps & there's obviously a place for 'em. BUT not at my place!! ;-) I got 2 All tube amps-an SVT2('92) & a V4B & a Mark Bass LMII i use for my Dbl bass & smaller gigs-where I can't be bothered with more.. The LMII is the ONLY S.S. amp i've been impressd with in 30 yrs! I DO like the V series T.E.'s tho- Played a V4 last year & liked that a LOT!
Yeah I tried EBS, & Marshall, & Mesa(axctually the Walkabout was one of the ones I liked the most), Aguilar... Memory.. I tried HEAPS.. as I'd used tube amps all my gigging life & ppl kept saying to me "why are U still playing that ol beast when this does that sound + so much more... I tried for a cuppla yrs, but ended up selling all my S.S. & hybrid gear for my amps I got now. I NOW I'm happy! Each to their own I say!

I use the Trace Elliot AH1000-12, which is the 12 band, stereo version of this with tube pre-amp, dual band comprssor etc etc.
Having used Trace Elliot a fair bit before, I'm in love with the new stuff!
You still get the classic Trace Elliot sound and being able to blend Valve pre-amp gain in with the signal...the tonal shaping is endless!
Plus, you get more headroom and volume.
My Trace Elliot 1048H cab was made in Corby. They are still UK made.

It does sound quite twangy, he should try to cut some of he treble down and turn up he bass a bit more.
But that might be the sound hes looking for.

I've been a Trace fan for quite some time now, but I have to admit, I'm bitterly disappointed.
The new amps aren't really new, just modernized versions of already great amps.
I like the new styling, but there's nothing stopping me getting the old AH1000 off ebay for a quarter of the price of this "new one".
I heard that the new Peavey tube bass amp was meant for Trace, but Peavey decided to use it and call it theres. Just rumors is all...
