One was taught the practice of washing the food they were eating, one was not. Subsequently once the 100th Monkey was assimilated among the population being taught, the second group, issolated from the first, began washing their food as well. The validity of the actual experiement has been brougtht into the question, but the theory is in fact real.
Evidence for the hundred monkey theory seems lacking when it is noted that Pax Americana is replicating Pax Roma. There is zero evidence indicating evolution of the human psyche. Ie. Plato's cave story.

Wikipedia says the Hundred Monkey Theory is a crock. Researchers showed some monkeys how to wash potatoes (not their hands), and the younger monkeys imitated what the older monkeys were doing. There was no magic hundredth monkey.

The 144000, as mentioned in the bible at least, is about the 12 tribes of Israel, 12000 per tribe, who are marked (or become marked) as the progenitors of the new earth, as the promise of the hebrew God for his people. That's actually NOT how evolution works. Sitting around lighting candles, singing "Kum Bah Yah," and visualizing an Edenlike world won't stop economic collapse and martial law. Quantum entanglement describes the linking of two electrons, photons etc in such a way as that one particle appears to affect the spin or state of the other when observed, even over distance and with apparently near instantaneous effect. @morningmayan and sadly also, the hundred monkey theory was disproved years ago. some monkeys began to wash their sweet potatoes (not their hands) and over time, some other youngsters were taught too, but not all and it was over a period of ten years I think. Not over all the monkey world either!! There was some crossing between islands of actual monkeys swimming so a few more learned but the myth is down to Lyall Watson mainly, not actual research. Your info is really far off. It was washong COCONUTS and other foods being washed. And the people tried to get the monkeys to do this because there was nuclear fallout that the monkeys were washing off. I'm not sure where you got this information from...the hundredth monkey experiment according to the book, "The Hundredth Monkey," involved sandy fruit being placed near a river. One monkey washed the fruit first, and this more enjoyable way of consuming the fruit spread among the rest of the population. When around a hundred monkeys learned to wash the fruit before eating it, other populations of monkeys, isolated from the first population, magically learned the trick. Same concept though.

For the record, change would be easier if the 100 monkey theory were true. Change is long hard and slow, of course unless you can link it with profits somehow, then its fast.
This story is not actually true. It is a variation on what really happened. Not all the monkeys in the world started doing it. But monkeys on neighboring islands (separated by what was thought to be untraversable waters) did. It is rare but monkeys do swim between islands. Thus inferring that it was psychic transmission when a more plausible physical means of transmission (a monkey travelling in water to another island) is not logical and saying it is proven is really quite a stretch.

I do beleive something will happen in 2012 like a change in consciousness (maybe) but the physical polar shift will not happen.

You're talking about the M-field theory. It's going to take more than some people, even many people, visualizing for two minutes a day. The 144000, as mentioned in the bible at least, is about the 12 tribes of Israel, 12000 per tribe, who are marked (or become marked) as the progenitors of the new earth, as the promise of the hebrew God for his people. In that same context is the taking up, 'in the twinkling of an eye' as Paul puts it (some call it the rapture) of Christ's followers for the new heaven. But I think this is all of one meaning, about all who respond to this higher frequency, to this awareness of one consciousness.

Scientists brought in monkeys to the Bikini Islands (not sure where) to see how soon life can exist after testing nuclear bombs. It was discovered the skins of coconuts were contaminated so they taught monkeys to wash them first. They then copied each other and when about 100 of them were doing it, thousands spontaneously picked it up without copying at all.

Also, I dont remember saying whether the HMT was a theory or not, so forgive me, but from my understanding, in science, everything is theory until absolute and incontrovertible evidence and time allow for the solidification of said theory into "Law". @morningmayan Um... just to point out, quantum mechanics alas does not 'prove' telepathy, as nice as that would be. Quantum entanglement describes the linking of two electrons, photons etc in such a way as that one particle appears to affect the spin or state of the other when observed, even over distance and with apparently near instantaneous effect. But these effects dont occur on a macro level, just micro.

It describes simple systems and how they can affect the prediction of a complex system, like a tornado, hence the butterfly's flapping wings. Its got nothing to do with quantum mechanics either. I only wanted to put you straight on a few things you seemed to have been believing without having decent information, thats all. @morningmayan and sadly also, the hundred monkey theory was disproved years ago. some monkeys began to wash their sweet potatoes (not their hands) and over time, some other youngsters were taught too, but not all and it was over a period of ten years I think. Not over all the monkey world either!! There was some crossing between islands of actual monkeys swimming so a few more learned but the myth is down to Lyall Watson mainly, not actual research. Even he apologised for not using the facts...

Our quaint attempts and describing how it all works is inadequate at best, and totally misinformed in most matters. "The 100th Monkey effect" has not been proved, at least in the referenced experiment. That does not mean that the effect is inexistent, only its not supported by the mentioned evidence. Which is inexact to say the least.
The experiment actually showed that contact between individuals is effective for a new paradigm to be propagated, and that the old generation is likely to never adopt the new paradigm. (wowzone .com / monkey .htm). Even Wikipedia has an entry.

Your info is really far off. It was washong COCONUTS and other foods being washed. And the people tried to get the monkeys to do this because there was nuclear fallout that the monkeys were washing off. Next, it was a learned trait - only on that island, monkeys across the planet don't wash their food. Lastly, it's logical that the other monkeys followed suit in washing, because the monkeys that washed, were more sucessful.

I'm not sure where you got this information from...the hundredth monkey experiment according to the book, "The Hundredth Monkey," involved sandy fruit being placed near a river. One monkey washed the fruit first, and this more enjoyable way of consuming the fruit spread among the rest of the population. When around a hundred monkeys learned to wash the fruit before eating it, other populations of monkeys, isolated from the first population, magically learned the trick. Same concept though.

This story is not actually true. It is a variation on what really happened. Not all the monkeys in the world started doing it. But monkeys on neighboring islands (separated by what was thought to be untraversable waters) did. It is rare but monkeys do swim between islands. Thus inferring that it was psychic transmission when a more plausible physical means of transmission (a monkey travelling in water to another island) is not logical and saying it is proven is really quite a stretch.

Evolution through survival of the fitest means that those of a species that have acquired a trait go on to live while those that did not die off. The trait can be a physical change, a new instinctual behavior, a social learned behavior, or a combination. Very few monkeys will come near anybody of water becasue monkey eaters live there and unless the water is flowing, washing shit hands in shit water gives shit hands.

@Fireball: I talked directly to a scientist who did a presentation on the possible polar shift. He worked all his life on that area of study and the famous polar shift is a myth. I do beleive something will happen in 2012 like a change in consciousness (maybe) but the physical polar shift will not happen.

It was food washing (sweet potatoes) not hand-washing. The monkeys were on islands. Yes, the potato washing spread fast. A learned behavior. Learned behaviors don't become a part of our DNA. However, if there's natural genetic variation in the population in the propensity to pick up this behavior, then selection can act on it (e.g. if the behavior increases survival) only as the learning spreads through the population and not before.

You're talking about the M-field theory. It's going to take more than some people, even many people, visualizing for two minutes a day. It's about a learned event being fed back into the racial memory of a species & becoming a part of the whole. I'm not trying to pop your bubble, but "thinking" about "eden" is VERY unlikely to do it. It's more like; if enough people ate a poisonous food, eventually that food would be distasteful to the whole- giving a 2012 countdown only makes it less likely.
