  • I think this video has a placebo effect. Yesterday I was setting out a display of Barbies at the department store where I am employed and I craved beef jerky. I'm a vegetarian.

  • *shoves chicken pox in an envelope* *Grins devilishly*

  • charlie, what are you? are you cool? are you cools-like? your like is cool? charlie. it's charlie.

  • "I gotta go have a sandwich or something!"

  • i have that flip flop thing too...

  • When you comming to Chicago? I'm in desprate need of some live humor and you can really make me laugh.

  • Food/rubber portion is ironic because MJ's a Vegetarian.

  • I laughed so hard during the measles part. I feel bad about this, but it was just so funny!

  • I used to chew on the wooden footboard of my bed as well. It had so many bite marks on it.

  • where in the world did you find those songs?? :P

  • i can never tell if you are being serious or joking... :P

  • LOLZ, I havent caught chickenpox once, but I have gotten strep throat, and scarlet fever...yes...the name of her new book.

  • adsfjkl

  • She's eccentric .. but at least she's cool and original.

  • ....

    <3.

  • MAUREEN IS UBER!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I, um, whenever someone isn't looking I chew on the tip of my cello.

  • bwahahahaha!!!! that was HILARIOUS!

    "I caught MEASLES."

  • lmfao!!!!!! you ate your bed??!?!?!!?

  • I love the "Vincent Price says, 'porkchops' to the tune of Wabash Canon Ball" thing.

  • I'm immune to chicken pox too! My mom sent me to those pox parties as a kid, but I never got them. Neither did my younger brother, come to think of it.

  • i chewed on the ends of my glasses as a kid. it was oddly satisfying

  • I used to chew on the wooden handles of our couch... i'm glad there are other people that chewed on wood as a kid...

  • You are a rare and fascinating person, Maureen.

  • I used to chew on my footboard, too. Not because I felt it was necessary, but because I liked to chew on things.

  • Maureen, you were with journey in Fargo, ND? That is awesome! JCL Nerdfighters ftw!

  • ALL THE WAY AS FAR AS READING!?

  • Maureen you're not alone.

When I was maybe five or six years old I distinctly remember trying to leave the little teeth marks in my footboard as well. I also remember a time when I had a sleepover and tried to leave teeth marks in my best friend's footboard. She was not happy with this.

So there you have it, you're not alone.

  • i got chicken pox when i was 12.. it was bad. my friend got it when she was 17.. she got fungus growing in her head as a side effect

  • I chewed on my bed too.... It's weird.

I also used to make noises without realizing it because I couldn't stand the quiet.

  • Revisiting the video that introduced me to the Porkchops song! LOL to all of this.

  • I used to chew on my wooden bed too. My bed had bite marks all over it. But then again I used to also EAT cardboard boxes.

  • my mommy saw this and said "wow, that lady is pretty"

  • LOL! nice second fact :]

  • Nice.

When I was a child I would twirl my hair and I'd keep twriling it in my sleep so by morning I'd have this huge thing that would stick up out of my forehead and my mother would call it my unicorn horn.

    Sweet video.

  • Oh Maureen, when you started talking about bed-chewing I literally lol-ed. You are quite an interesting person... <3

  • I love you!

  • lol pork chops...pork chops...steak! and I'm immune to chicken pox too. My parents did the exact same thing. Oh, you're going over to this person who you don't know's house to get sick. wonderful. lol

  • @Suie12

So.... I ended up getting chickenpox after all. Senior year. Whooo. Started a little epidemic at my school a couple weeks before Thanksgiving last year. Dang it, I jinxed myself!

  • Oh, by the way: Steve Augeri.

  • Maureen. Immediately make at least 1000 more of these videos. Thank you.

  • don't worry maureen I have out chewed you. I used to chew on window sills when I was little. When we went to sell my house the people asked if we had pets and my mom responded "No, my daughter chewed on them, sorry. If you children chew on them though we know they are not lead based."

  • You know, I did the chew-on-the-bed-frame thing too! I can't explain it either, but it's so much easier to sleep afterwards. I had to do it twice sometimes though.

  • My fiance is immune to the POX.

  • this was hillarious!

  • MAUREEN. Your rubber-and-various-meats montage made me literally lol (or llol) at work. You're very lucky I'm good at lolling quietly.

  • all three of my brothers are immune to chicken pox. I, of course, their big sister, was the one who DID get it. Good thing I was too young to remember.

  • bed chewing???

  • she looks like jenna fischer

    i never noticed that

  • ok...

    pause. rewind.

    Journey!? Hot tub!? Chococlate Martini!?

I know that no one has commented on this video in like three months, but dear lord Maureen, that warrants some more explanation. A whole video I'd say. Maybe multiple videos. You should do a reenactment. Libba Bray could put that crazy helmet on and play the guy from Journey.

  • Aww, if I was a boy I would want to marry you!

  • Fake Steve Perry? lol

  • I chewed on the end of my bed too when I was little! Of course the end was METAL so I nearly busted my teeth on it, but I did it only on Thursdays.... so thats weird too. =)

  • I keep waiting for you to blink. BLINK BLINK BLINK, please! =]

    <3

  • LOL this is so funny!

    Chicken Liver Steak

  • omg maureen you are hallarious!

i love your videos and books!

    great job =D

  • Oh wow, I thought I was the ONLY one who experienced that weird phenomenon with rubbery smells. For me, leathery smells like new shoes or a new car also do it. It's not that it makes me HUNGRY, exactly, it's just that for some reason those smells make me kind of salivate. Weird!

  • XD

Jokes video Maureen. Awesome 5 things. I wish I could make the UK gathering, but stuck in New York I am. If only I didn't have college. And if only I had more money. Actually more money, if quantified in the millions, would negate the need for college. I would still go, but it would be more of a hobby than a necessity. Why am I writing all this? Have fun in the UK!

  • Hahaha where did you find that song "chicken liver chicken live chicken liver steak"

I had some pretty weird sleeping habits when I was little too!

  • hahhahahaaha

    nibble on her bed,....

  • I just about bust a button. You are so funny... :D

  • Oh my word you are hilarious! :)

  • i'm naturally immune to chicken pox, too!!!

when my mom and my brother got it they were constantly rubbing against me and making me eat off the same forks as them and sleep near them.

    however, i was immune. score.

  • I wanna goooooo but i've got school and my mom dislikes nerds...

  • Ah, you make us laugh Maureen.

  • :D I'm pretty darn excited to be tagged right now. I think I'll have to make my video tonight.

I remember you telling us about the bed thing before, on your blog, but I can't remember why.

I think it's ridiculous to try to get kids infected with chicken pox. I get why they're doing it, but it also seems sort of cruel. It's how I contracted chicken pox when I was little, only my mom made me play with my sister instead of the kid down the street.

  • well, they try to infect kids because it's a lot less harmful to kids than it is to adults. So its better to get it as a kid than as an adult.

  • It's actually REALLY dangerous to get chicken pox as an adult.

  • i bet flip flops taste like chicken

  • Maureen avoided chicken pox as a kid. She did succumb to the rare and equally uncomfortable dance fever.

  • you make me lol tom...

    literally, lol

  • You are Maureen's grandmother.

  • Have fun MJ!

  • any chance you will be nerdfighting in london in early may? 'cause that is when i happen to be going to london. lol.

can't wait for the announcement, and the fun facts were. . . fun? have a good one

  • haha loved this video : ) can't wait for suite scarlett (did i spell that right...) and random side note... you remind me of my mom's youngest sister, and consequently the girl from that new disney movie, enchanted (since she reminds me of my aunt too)... this is a good thing, random, but she's a cool aunt and person... yeah... okay.

  • Lmfao.

  • I always thought I was the only person to gnaw on my bedframe!

Seriously... when I was a baby, I chewed through the sides of my crib. When I was a little older, I chewed on the railing of my bunk bed and ruined my front teeth.

    Enjoy the nerdfighter gathering!

    Kelly ~/`~

  • i've never gotten chicken pox either...course i'm 19. your record is significantly longer.

  • rubber montage FTW!

  • Job well done again Maureen! i REALLY wish i could go to the NerdFighter gathering in the UK but i dont have the money to get over there...and that sadens me. make some vids while you're over there though!!

and yay for charlie!! he is made of awesome!

  • I'm..um...glad you don't eat rubber....cause...you know..then you'd die, lol

and yes you are totally weird, but in the best possible way XD. YAY for nerdfightery weirdness!!

  • Yay!!! See you next week in London!! :D Safe journer... hope those cases have warm clothes. It's freezing and rainy over here! :P

  • My like is cool... I think.

  • When I was young, I had these Winnie the Pooh characters on my wall. For some reason, at night I would take one down and peel the first layer (the painted character layer) off. I have no idea why I did it, but I worked my way through half before my mom caught me.

We do weird things as kids, don't we?

  • i knew a girl who was extremely enthusiastic about the smell of new sponges. i don't know if it made her hungry, but she would get very vocally excited about it.

also, today when i was in the radio studio, i hit my head on the mic because i was leaning over to smell the show log because i thought the ink smelled like marzipan. unfortunately, it didn't smell like marzipan at all. close up, it actually smelled a lot like novocaine. eww.
