I like the undercurrents in the story - Ashley is probably confused about motivations - both her own and her date's.

I agree. I would not think being prayed for is something people should find offensive. I don't think new agers sending "good thoughts" into the cosmos has any effect, but I wouldn't be offended by it. I think Taffy is awesome.
