wow thanks for this!!!!! what a flood of memorys it brings back!!!!! it was one of my favorite records!!! it helped me too become what i am today!! a special effects artist. movie maker!!! thanks so much for posting this!!.....
I am so, so EXCITED to find this!!! I have fond memories of my brother & I listening to this LP, into the wee hours, on his record player. I can still hear, "What 'till Charley comes". Thank you so much for posting this!
i used to listen to this all the time when I was a kid. It's really cool to hear it again, and not skipping on certain parts. Story records were so cool. Hansel and Gretel was another favorite. My name is Clarence, so I loved the story with the giant squirrels. Weird to hear it so clear again, no pops and ticks. THANKS!!!
I listened to this record as a child over and over again. I still quote it on occasion. Never thought I'd hear it again. Thanks so much for posting it!!!
What a great record...inherited my copy from older brothers. Alfred Hitchcock really respected his young audience, and that's why this sounds just as great as it ever did. Thanks so much for posting it.
I found this on a web search after listing this record in a friend's Facebook poll of favorite children's records. I had wanted to get the exact title right.
alot of people see and hear these stories and dont really think about it,just some more stuff to see.kids of today are desencitzed to it all because everything is out there!yeah, movie magic, sounds, visuals it's pretty much common knowlage how stuff works.but the greatest thing of all about it??back when this stuff was made,i was young enough to enjoy what it was really made to do.scare you.not just something jumping out, after the music tells us it's there.i guess you could say ignorance is bliss
This brings back some ANCIENT memories! Out teacher played this first part for us when I was in the 3rd grade, and the room was DEAD quiet from "I was alone in the Haunted House" to the end of the first story. I have this same record in my collection right now, and it's always worth a listen.
This is an interesting version of a classic ghost story, even if the ending doesn't even vaguely resemble how the Haunted and the Haunters really ended.
My dad bought me this record when I was about 10 and I remember listening to it one night alone in the dark. The first story was soooo creepy that I had to switch the light back on and stop the turntable, zoinks! Wonderful memories. Thanks for sharing this gem!
not since the late 70s have i heard these gems. it's amazing how much of the dialogue you retain from 30 years on...can't even remember my username or password after a month these days.
When I was a kid, we had a "home stereo system" set up in the kitchen/dining room. This album, lots of dr seuss and disney records and jim croce/janis joplin were my best friends for many evenings.
Thanks for the memories! The records are all long gone but remain in my heart.
This was my first real ghost story when I was 6 I would INSIST on turning the lights out -door closed, etc, and scare the crap out of myself with the first story! and do it again and again I have been looking for this! This and "Radio Mystery Theatre" with E.G. Marshal were the greatest!
Man,this brings back so many memories of my childhood in the 70's..sleepovers on friday nights w'friends, and this record playing on the "suitcase style" record player. All thats missing is the distinctive hiss of the turn table,Thank you,Vintage Horror Sounds!!
Wow!! I remember the sleepless nights from this one!!! I was always afraid I'd hear the knock on my headboard. It scared me so much, my father ended up breaking it over his knee! Thanks so much for posting !!!!!!
I haven't heard these stories since my LP players stopped working decades ago. I loved them as a kid. Your postings allowed my sons to enjoy these stories as well. My five year old listened to every story. It's the longest I've seen him motionless for some time. Thank you.
You are very welcome. I also listened to this as a child and I am glad it has brought back good memories for you and new memories for your sons! My intentions of starting VintageHorrorSounds was for just that reason - to bring back memories. Thank you for the kind words and I hope my other postings, recent and future ones, hold good memories for you also!
This is so great. My Brother and I still quote this stuff all the time!! Amazing stuff. I always wondered who was John Allen. Can not find anything on him ,yet he obviously had a big effect on lots of folks!
WHAT WONDERFUL MEMORIES THIS BRINGS BACK!!!! My Dad brought this LP home for my older brother and me. He was about 13 and I was 7 or 8. We listened to this over and over and over in our basement (which was clean, but old and creepy, with the linoleum tile floor)
In fact, I've been trying to get this in CD or even LP form. Thank you VintageHorrorSounds!!!!!
You are very welcome! This is exactly what we are trying to do at VintageHorrorSounds. Bringing back those childhood memories - with an occassional surprise or two........
I was given this album when I was 10 or 11 loved it all these years. Im now 44 and have played this for my kids; they dont dig It like I did. There nuts.
