To be able to put this show into context, we need to understand that it's scripted, like most MTV shows. They pass under guise of being reality TV, but they're not spontaneous, they're carefully planned. And there's nothing wrong with that. We all watch scripted TV, it's entertaining.

The real problem arises when impressionable teenagers start watching shows like these and using the characters as role models of some sort, thus creating false standards for themselves. It's too common these days.

I'm going to have to agree with baggergurl16. I think it is confusing. And it's completely contradictive... it exploits being "nerdy" and puts a distinct label on it. Being uncool is cool now. And to me, I feel this show is pretty realistic, esp since I have seen pretty girls bein picked on-they wore name brand clothes, and you would never think they were one of the "lames" just by lookin at them...but because they didn't act a certain way, or because they liked/disliked certain things, or sometimes because they disagreed with the more "popular" kids, they were labled different...and picked on.
