This tune is little known gem by the band. Saw Bloodrock twice, once at the Fillmore East and once at Marist HS gym in Bayonne, NJ of all places. A great live band with a big sound. Still and all, not only does the band get any respect but how is Lee Pickens not ever mentioned as a great Texas axe man.
This is the first album I bought with my own money. My first album was given to me by my sister...Steppenwolf II. I have been a headbanger since about 6...LOL.
I watched Bloodrock open for Grand Funk Railroad in 1969 in Houston, Tx. I think it should have been the other way around sometimes. That was probably the best concert I have ever been to. The loudest was Metallica, Lake Charles, Louisiana.
My friends and I would get lots of energy from listening to Bloodrock, just before a football game, and just whup everybody on the gridiron. I know that might sound corny, but true.
@sizzledXbrainXcells This is From 2.And not To whore myself out Or anything... But I have all of their Stuff (With Jim Rutledge, so 5 albums) uploaded.
I was 10 years old in 1970 in an "eh" (educationally handicapped) class in El Cajon, CA listening to this on a school district Mono "phonograph" player lovin' every second of this album....... well, Doa was a little weird compared to the rest of the album.
wow!.. i remember camping in the woods with my brother and a bunch of friends ..in the later 70's.. 8 track portable player.. a bunch of beer, and acid.. and out comes the bloodrock 2 tapes... grand funk survival also...woohoooo!
Great tune! We played it in our band back in the '70's and 80's and people always asked "Who the hell is that song by?" Nobody ever heard of it. Great fun to play and hear!
@Straydogger Hey Buddy did this song back in high school here in Michigan, back in 73'-74 man i learned a lot form Lee Pickens the lead guitarist well im 54 now and still play like him and Johnny Winter and Eric Clapton and Ronnie Montrose with a dash of Alvin Lee , and built me own style, its been quite a trip(;
@axeslinger56 Winter, Clapton, Montrose and Lee? Seems we have the same tastes in music for sure. Love Bloodrock....of course the first song I heard was D.O.A. I also love the later version of the band. Passages is a great, but completely different, group of songs.
@Straydogger You bet buddy im from Michigan, i know all the bands Nugent, Brownsville, their my buddys, some dead some still alive, just got off of a Garden City gig i hammerd it gotta get my left knee replaced shortly, im 54 work in progress(;
And yes i put DOA to my young son and his friends-- this song is about flying in a plane and the people died--im 53- i know what happened-but i let my boy listen and learn--they turned white when they heard my original 33-Bloodrock live" and hit it right-- it is a song for all the stupid young kids that think their Superman-they are dead my friends-------------- at 17--im 52-why?????
"Castle of thoughts" First song first album. Hey dude I'm 53, Don't feel bad. Just don't let our music die. Keep turning on the kids and our music will live forever, Where did all the time go.
This is the first time since I became a member of yt that I feel like turning it off, and going upstairs to find all of my old Bloodrock vinyls, and play them none stop for a week! That band was GREAT, and their live performances were something I can still remember like it was yesterday, when I watched them playing "Melvin Laid An Egg", right up front at the old Filmore in S.F.!
@joeat963 MAN! You are one lucky dog! I was too young to see them live--my dad turned me onto 'D.O.A.' when I was 10 and scared the crap outta me (lol)!!! Loved the band ever since...
Wow!! 1973--Dexter high school--i played this song!! loud guitar! Lee pickens--greataxe player--learnd a lot from the man--Thanks mike the d---Michigan rocks --i am 51 and still kick the fuck out of the guitar! Thanx-bro!!!

These guys were my first official concert, when I was 16, in 1971!
The only decent band to come through my tiny hick town in Texas, back then...
I still remember how great they were!
Funny, so many hold them dear. They must've toured the hell outa America!
Wish they would have a reunion somewhere.
