  • Good job explaining things. That looks as thick and yummy as any commercial smoothie I've had. I'll try it soon. Sometimes, if my day is rushed and I don't have time to add whole fruit, I'll mix equal parts 1 cup kefir, and 1 cup Silk Coconut Milk (fortified with many nice vitamins and minerals), and a stevia packet for a quick daily dose of kefir. It's not nice and thick like yours, but it's still yummy with a "tang". I can drink it quickly so I can still get my good bacteria.Take care :)

  • @CSWRB You know what. I have just added a pack of truvia to it once and drank it as a plain yogurt drink. Not bad. Yeah. I use it as my post workout drink to make the ratio 4:1 Carb:Protein. I just add banana and stevia drops.

  • @lilchez1 Yum, fruit and kefir rocks! We are so blessed to have such things to nourish us. A big "Thank you!"to you and all others on YouTube who are spreading the word.Stevia comes in drops? Cool! I need to find some of that. I've only tried the Stevia powder. :)

  • @CSWRB Yes. Stevia extract.

  • Can you tell me what benefits you have seen using/drinking the kefir for a year now. Have you lost weight? One lady said it help her lose her belly fat, weight, and no more digestive problems or candida, how has it helped you?

  • @mygodisable2 I lost weight but I doubt it had anything to do with drinking kefir. I started a natural fight against cellulite and lost about 10lbs so I'm now 116. I don't drink it as consistently as I should so I don't know if it did anything but maybe help to recolonize my colon with good bacteria. No real digestion problems when I'm drinking it. I want to try the water kefir though. I don't know if it helped with candida but if it did I still need more help.

  • This is a very "victorious" video. =p

  • @atthewburns1229m Thank you.

  • This video went viral on Togo

  • @augustbuckne717 What is togo? I googled it and can only find that its a country in West Africa. I don't see any video hosting service with that name.

  • Your kefir looks delicious. Thanks so much or the video! I'm not a big fan of dairy (but LOVE the taste), but I may consider making milk kefir. I've already ordered water kefir grains and I'm totally excited! Keep up the good work!

  • @2prevail I am definitely contemplating getting water kefir grains. I am lactose intolerant and I think I have somewhat of a reaction whenever I go a few days without kefir my stomach goes crazy and I have to get used to it again. I can make my own ginger ale type water kefir drink which should be refreshing and very good for digestion. I am just leary of giving up the extra benefits of milk. (I tried raw milk and it made the grains start growing like crazy) Lol. They love it.

  • black people dont deserve keifer

  • @gamerhack You're a fucking idiot. You don't deserve to talk to anyone with sense. Loser.

  • @gamerhack Get a life.

  • @gamerhack Your a jerk. Go away fool!!!

  • Pulverizing the crap out of it in a blender isn't a good idea. Looks yummy though!

  • @IIIIILizIIIII I can't drink or eat it without something else. Yuck. Too plain or tangy etc. I am uploading a kefir vid on my new channel called 4UsNaturals now. It might be up in 3 hours. I'm using cheesecloth though. I am making another smoothie but I also make a makeshift yogurt without the blender. ^_^

  • Its not the helicopters that bothered me, but the terrible quality of the microphone. Sorry, I was pretty distracted by it.

  • @glorifyyourname I can dig it although nobody else mentioned it. It was the camera. It was old and I don't even think it had a name. I will be uploading a newer kefir vid next week on my new channel 4UsNaturals. The camera and mic are much better but my fridge starts humming loud in the background. Some things just can't be helped.. Thanks for watching

  • @lilchez1 cool! I will look for the new vid! I want to make kefir with non dairy milk. Im used to make it with cows milk, but since I turned vegan, I dont want that anymore. I have made my own almond milk! its super easy :D

  • @glorifyyourname Oh your vegan. I haven't ever tried with a non milk. I'm still using skim milk but I am using cheesecloth to strain it for people that have problem with both metal and plastic strainers. I am also making yogurt (or a yogurt type substance). Its uploading now.

  • Also, not to be racial or anything but it's good to see another black person, and a black woman interested in this. Also I can't knock u for using the fruit either. Kefir can be VERy strong tasting especially when left too long.

  • @Quranite Lol. I found out about kefir from a black woman too. I did some research and had to have it. I have actually never even drank it without some sort of flavor. The fruit is good but I don't like it if it doesn't have the banana to sweeten and thicken.

  • @Quranite not to be racial, but if you did not intend to be racial, why mention race at all? why not treat her as an equal of this world?

  • @pumapreto Whatever, save your words and your need to fight with someone. What makes you think i don't treat her as an equal in this world? The world is full of different races, cultures and colors, do I need to be blind to them and ignore them to treat everyone equally? I don't think so. Embracing differences implies recognizing them first. Being an Afro-American myself I've seen less Afro-Americans are tolerant of alternative foods like this than Euro-Americans. So I was suprised, and glad.

  • @Quranite Liked your video; but you should never use a metal strainer as the kefir will leach the metal into the grains and kefir.

  • @Caramellfan101 Wasn't my video. You can see who made the video above the actual youtube video. She addresses her use of a metal strainer though. I would use metal strainers as well when I made kefir. Didn't seem to hurt the kefir grains though, despite what they say.

  • @Caramellfan101 The alternative is plastic mesh? With all the horrific things we are finding out about plastic poisoning I don't think there is a safe way. hmmm. Maybe draining through cheesecloth or something. Even if I found a BPA free one I know they are just gonna find whatever it is made of to be poisonous and leaching. Perhaps a strainer made of iron. I am iron deficient. Lol.

  • I am kind of thankful for this video. I haven't made kefir in some time and don't have grains now, but when I did I would always find a way to leave it out too long and it would get RANK. That rankness would stay in the grains. They were always clean tasting when I got them and I always screwed them up. I would use raw milk, but the best results I ever got was from powdered milk believe it or not. So I can't knock u for using skim or for using the fridge. Does it get too acidic in there?

  • @Quranite Mine are pretty good they don't really get rank. They are used to me playing games by now. The fridge slows down the process. It is very acidic after a long episode of mistreatment but a few days of feeding them and they make the good stuff. I wouldn't even know where to get powdered milk. Lol. I stunted their growth by forgetting about them while I vacationed so they don't grow/multiply anymore but they still work. Sometimes when u treat them bad u have to nurse them back to health.

  • Great info and I'm glad to see you adding this to your health regimen. God bless you!

  • @777VIBRANT Thank you.

  • I think your kefir is fermenting quickly because you have WAY too many grains for the amount of milk in your glass...you probably only need a quarter of what you had there

  • @CtrlAltDltYou Could be. I used to eat them periodically when I grew too many but a trip I took stunted their growth and I dont have to do that anymore. Thanks.

  • dose this stuff help you to lose wait or what are the benefits to Kefir? if someone could help me out plzzz

  • @animeLOV3er1 Just Google "benefits of kefir" and then "kefir to lose weight" and you'll find info on what you're looking for.

  • That was a really great video. I like the way you explain everything. You make it look really easy. I just started making Kefir. It is only a few hours old. Wish I would have known it gets that thick and creamy with skim milk. Next time i'll try it. Thanks!

  • @greatfullheart Have you tried it with skim milk yet? If it doesnt turn out right immediately keep trying. It might have to get used to the new liquid but it definitely works.

  • @lilchez1 Not yet! I've been doing it with 2% and I think I'm finally getting somewhere. It is getting thicker and not so tart. Through experimenting on my own I am finding a taste I like which happens wayy earlier than 24 hours. When I see a fine line of whey forming at the top I taste it and usually thats when I strain it (with metal...no problem also) and it is pretty thickened. Don't know if it's right but it's working for me. Skim milk next, should work for me too. Thanks!

    Linda

  • thanks for the nice video.. i just started rehydrating my water kefir grain and milk kefir grains... nice to know you have been using that spoon and strainer yet your babies keep on growing...

  • @ygermino Funny you call them babies. I treat them like I have kids. Lol. Yeah the metal hasn't seemed to stop them from flourishing. They are hard core.

  • One note to you, Kefir and Kombucha does not like metal. Keep metal and kefir and away from each other.

  • @tamtbell Yeah I mentioned in the video that some people feel that way. My kefir has been going strong and growing for over a year now.

  • sounds good and simple, thanks!

  • @virtualpaul1 Thank you for watching Paul.

  • Great video with lots of helpful hints, thanks.

  • @hoovdog23 Oh thank you so much. I am so glad that I could be of help.

  • I thought that by using metal like your strainer and the blending blades that it kills the bacteria?

  • @niamh2739 Nah. I don't think so. Purist think that metal contaminates. My first strainer rusted so there may be some truth to it.

  • Actually is it easy but good

  • @101ohmygod Yup. It is.

  • e system with good bacteria (for good intestinal flora) needed for digestion and can rid you of candida overgrowth which is being blamed for more and more ailments today. There are many other conditions in which kefir is cited as a fixer or cure. Look it up. Enjoy

  • @oakoakoakz You just copied and pasted what I wrote.....

  • it's really good and healthy! I have too!

  • @cristake28 Isn't it awesome? How long have you been drinking it? I am probably gonna start using it in recipes too.

  • super

  • @TOLIKXTOLIK Thank you.

  • i will try it

  • @mannansasi007 Great! Let me know how you like it.

  • nice thanks for this video really good........

  • @nycesanthosh Thank you for watching. Hopefully some of my other videos would also be of use to you. Feel free to subscribe to see my latest videos when I upload them.

  • i Like this video so gogd plz keep it up

  • Hi, thank you for the video, I have few questions

    1) Do you need to wash the grains at some time?

    2) I make kefir, and for some reason it now comes out too sour, and seems like its carbonated.

  • @samuils It IS carbonated, that is what fermenting is but I know what you mean. For me it is usually because I let it ferment 2 long & the kefir and whey have started to separate. Whenever I taste it at that time it's super sour & carbonated. Your grains have probably grown and there is more of them and they finish with the milk sooner so either eat some of the grains, give some away, use more milk or strain it sooner. I wash mine sometimes but lots of people never do. Hope that helps.

  • @samuils - answering question# 2 first....if it's too sour, you need to either (1) take out some of the grains and eat them or make extra jars of kefir OR (2) add more milk in large container. Otherwise, separate them and give them away. 1st ques - rinse the grains if the curdles are too much on the grains OR to make water or juice kefir. You'll have to rinse them well, then place them in sugary water for 2 weeks or so. But Google "rinsing kefir grains used in milk" for more info.
