Being against interracial marriage is bad because you're keeping a white and black person from being together. However, if you are for interracial marriage, blacks and whites can get together, as well as blacks and blacks, as well as white and whites.
Being against gay marriage is keeping men from each other and women from each other. However, if you are for gay marriage, men can get together, women can get together, and men and women get together.
Bans on interracial marriage were about separating and keeping the races apart and based on the Brown v. Board decision, segregation of classes of people is another form of discrimination. When we lifted up the bans, it not only integrated the races but the sexes which is what marriage has always been about: Integration for procreation and rearing of kids. So unless you think integration is another form of discrimination like segregation as well, then its not the same thing.
This video is right. Up here in Canada, as soon as they legalized gay marriage, all straight marriages were annulled. Then society collapsed. Now we just live in the ruins of our formerly glorious cities, fighting post-apocalyptic biker gangs and trying to stave off the cannibals. Don't let this fate come to your nation!
At the end of the interview, did she just imply that the people who oppose of inter-racial marriage don't get a chance to run schools because of their belief and they basically should? Is she serious? The question is not about hiding behind the broad shield of the First Amendment but rather the "merit" of the issue. Using her inverted logic, we can argue, that opponent of same sex marriage do take away the freedom of speech from their counter parts because they simply oppose their credence.
"i don't think that treating different people differently is discrimination"....is her head shoved so far up her ass that she can't think before she speaks??
At least he admitted that civil unions give same sex couples the same legal rights.
He is incorrect in stating that the only reason people don't want to change the legal definition is because we want to put them down as individuals when the fact is by changing the legal definition it does the exact opposite of providing equality it forces their lifestyle onto others and into the pubic school system. Parents may not opt out in many cases, yet they have taken out God, how can they do this?
Schools haven't taken God out. They don't make the claim that there is NO God. ANY child can pray to whatever God or Gods they desire. Oh wait a minute I see... you meant YOUR God can no longer be forced on every student and teacher in the school. Sorry my mistake. AequitaVeritas7777 believes HIS God should be forced on EVERYONEs children! There ya have it folks. Don't you LOVE AequitaVeritas? SO American. Wonder if he'd feel the same if Islam was or became the prevailing religion here.
We're protecting the rightful meaning of marriage as the respectful noble institution of (ideally) life long spiritual/emotional/legal commitment between two people who share an intimate bond with one another, and wish to have that relationship appropriately recognized for their and their family's safety and well being. We're taking marriage BACK from the religious right who want it to be about genitals! Twisted sick sex obsessed nuts that they are. YES, good men ARE taking a stand against you.
I don't think this ad had its desired effect, any reasonably educated person can see the difference between the two arguments. One is based on reasonable comparisons and logic, while the other is built on fallacies. 33% of Americans support gay marriage? who was polled, how many? how old is the info? Because i can find plenty of reliable sources that find the numbers much higher. Not quite 50% yet, but Opposition isn't over 50% either. There is a significant percentage that are still undecided.
Wow. NOM truly has the weakest and most flimsy arguments imaginable, which of course is no surprise. Because their true intentions and motivations are NOT to protect the real TRUE noble meaning of marriage rooted in a couple's deep love for one another and desire to create a legal bond to protect their family, NOMs TRUE intentions lie in the hateful bigotry they find in THEIR Bibles and a desire to see that baseless bigotry ensconced in our laws as support of their religion's validity.
1- There is a pretty little thing called 'Separation Between Chruch and State'-ergo, morals shouldn't be playing a role in lowmaking and everyone's equal access to full marriage rights should be IMPLIED based on the Constitution.
2- The Bible's words themselves are questionable. Where is called homosexuality immoral in the OT is also in the same book that condemns women cutting their hair and people eating shellfish.
we may not live in a theocracy, but we do live in a democracy. the first amendment does not apply to voters. Pastors, clergy, and religious leaders have every right to convey and express their moral vision onto their community and into the voting process. Prop 8 ,or any other amendment, would not did not and does not undermine the constitution because the government didn't put it into law, the people did, and whether they voted for it on religious grounds is no one's business but their own.
'it's not discrimitory to treat different things differently' well blacks were 'different' back in the day and we treated them different. it was discrimitory then and this is discrimitory now
your analogy to homosexuality and race is misguided. being gay may or may not be a choice but living the gay lifestyle is a choice and that's why we are here. the government doesn't ask you whether you are gay or straight. sexual orientation has nothing to do with the issue.you can't compare an immutable characteristic (race gender etc) to somebody's behavior. A lifestyle is not a minority. Jews, blacks, and women were discriminated against for who they were not for who they were having sex with
@kenballer00 ken, you just simply (like any opponent of sam sex marriage) don't make any sense. so you could be born gay you say, but you choose to have same sex partners? of course we all choose who we have sex with! but if someone is born gay they can't choose to have sex with the opposite gender, it'd be uncomfortable and awful. you being born straight shouldn't be forced to have sex with the same sex, why should they 'change their lifestlye' when you wouldn't?
in no way do we in society accept behaviors as one in the same with the individual's desire to live out that behavior. According to your logic, we should and are suppose to accept pedophilia, polygamy (bisexuals), adulterers, alcoholics, and kleptomaniacs. so unlike women, blacks, and the handicap who cannot completely change their skin or physical attribute along with it being primarily based on OUTWARD appearance, gays have freewill and can change their lifestyle
@kenballer00 those people you mentioned all are hurting themselves or others, why would society look kindly on them? homosexuals are not hurting anybody. and there's no victim, that what's different. and no they can't decide hey! i'm into the opposite sex now, just like you can't say hey! i'm into same sex now!
Gallagher: "There is only one institution that we have that is about bringing together...a man and a woman...so that children can know and be known by, love and be loved by their mother and father."
This comes out of the mouth of a woman who had an out-of-wedlock son, never married the man and forbid contact between the son and his father!
The strange thing is that I have never heard the one argument I would truley consider for not allowing same sex marrige. Everyone goes on about how it is not christian and so on but it seems that it will have not effect on the poulation. Which I think's great, as I now have no reason what so ever to listen to these bigots who are so backwards they are talking out of their own arses.
"Not rooted in... descrimination against anyone" as long as your straight. WTF?!
The lesbian couple that took me in treated me SO MUCH FUCKING BETTER than my blood. One man and one woman is not needed. GOOD FUCKING PARENTS ARE! It doesn't matter if they are gay or straight, or if one is trans or both or whatever, the parents have to be good for the kids to be well taken care of. How retarded can you get?!
"...laws against interracial marriage were about keeping two races separate so that one race can oppress the other..."
Yes, and laws against same sex marriage are about keeping queer people's families legally and economically disadvantaged, so that heterosexists can oppress them. How is it not different???
Oppressing them makes them see the error of their ways and become hetero.
And then they can has babies like normal straight people do and pass on the gay gene so that more gay people will be born. And then the gay turned straight parent can beat the babies back to being straight to PROVE without a doubt that heterosexual parents are awesome. Because physical violence is the best way to show affection.
if you Go to Wikipedia and type in Baker v. Nelson, The case will show you that the same court in Loving v Virginia not only distinguished same sex marriage from interracial marriage, but established it as a right that does not exist under the constitution and never did. so the 14th amendment does not confer a RIGHT to gay marriage anymore than it does for polygamy
So Maggie Gallagher thinks a marriage is a man and women intended to be supportive structure for the FAMILY & Children involved... YET SHE WAS A SINGLE MOTHER OF TWO CHILDREN. WHAT A F***ING HYPOCRITE!!!
Just because some normal families fail to remain married, does not negate the FACT that in principle it COULD have worked. A gay marriage can NEVER work to provide a safe environment for a child, in fact it can't even procreate.
So under your logic, anyone who cannot reproduce should not be allowed to be married. So old people should be banned from marriage as well then. And anyone who is infertile should be banned from marriage as well since they can not procreate. Great argument!
Thanks I'm glad you liked it. Society thrives on families. Those that are not families, should always take second place. Civil unions for infertile couples and equal property rights. But the family trumps all, the most important union of a couple, is the one that produces a loving family.
i encourage you to type in "Alan Keye's argument" and watch the video where Alan answers and refutes these type of arguments about the infertile and other situations just like it
I would suggest that you research some of the cases studies performed on this issue before you make such a wide judgment....and an incorrect one at that.
How is legallizing gay marriage going to prevent heterosexual marriages? Gay marriage does not prevent heterosexual men and heterosexual women from coming together. Heterosexual marriages WILL STILL EXIST when gay marriage is legal. How is excluding gay people from marriage important to heterosexual marriages? I agree that heterosexual marriage is a good thing. But gay marriage is a good thing too for gay people & it should be legal.
Me and my Horse Charlie are deeply in love here in Washington state. In our state we can make all the love we want. Our Love is beautiful and real, I cant help myself I was born this way. Id like to move to Massachusetts but all the Bestiality bigots wont recognize our real love. Will you help us fight; like you passionately fight for homosexuals, to show the world its beautiful to share love between beast and man? Help us show people to be open-minded of our LOVE.
The trouble with legalizing sex with animals is knowing when it's consensual and when it isn't. I support the idea that people should be allowed to have sex with other species, but I can't support legalizing it without a specific plan to help prevent the sexual abuse of animals under the law. Until I or someone else devises such a plan, I choose to err on the side of caution, to protect animals from abuse.
Thats the beauty of it. The ground work as already been laid out here in Washington State so that harm doesnt come to these majestic creators. We need help from the gay community and open minded people like you to help us spread the word that bestiality is beautiful. Will you help us?
Not all marriages seem to have their own dignity. Think back to the 55 hour debacle of a pop star in Las Vegas. And to be clear, marriage does not protect all children evenly. Why are you not working to protect those children directly?
I love how she tries to define marriage only as a representation of the children that couple has. So people who are unable to have children, such as the infertile or elderly, should not be able to get married since their union cannot produce offspring? Yeah, that makes sense. Marriage is not about children, it's about love. Civil Unions are not equal. They're like giving a person a number instead of a name. Perfectly functional legally, but emotionally and morally it's dehumanizing. It's wrong.
i encourage you to type in "Alan Keye's argument" and watch the video where Alan answers and refutes these type of arguments about the infertile and other situations just like it
The more misinformation and denial of wrongdoing is bellowed from the far right, the more Americans are turning away from the "message". It is almost like the sudden disgust Americans felt toward the KKK in the late 70s. The frequent "rallys' we once knew are now isolated and insignificant "events". America is tired of the iron fisted and thick headed ways of the far right. The Frisks, the Lots, The Knutes and Dukes; they are no longer fashionable.
There are no valid arguments against same-sex marriage anymore. If you break everything down a long with all of the excuses, you find nothing but the inherited lack of acceptance and the lack of knowledge on the issue of gays and lesbians.
Ok, so Maggie believes that the purpose of marriage is for children to be known and loved by their mother and father...
Are you saying that single parents are not as good as 2 heterosexual parents? Have you not paid attention to the numerous studies that say that there is no discernible difference in the raising of a child in a straight home vs. a gay one?
The argument Gallagher makes is atrocious about majority opinions.
Well I say, where was the majority during the original american Civil Rights Movement? It is imperative for the courts to rule in a manner that is respectful of the constitution and the rights that people are entitled to. It is not alright for the average joe to make that decision. By her argument, equal rights for blacks would not have been established because they were not the opinions of the majority (initially)
Maggie G is afraid that once the USA realizes there is no RATIONAL reason to call same-sex relationships something other than marriage, she'll be labeled a bigot. And then she'll feel bad. Because oh my bigots are bad. And she doesn't want to be labeled a bigot and feel bad. Cry me a river!
If you take a stand, have the gumption to stand for it.
Thank you, Maggie G, for affirming what was said by your opponents all along.
@7:30 mark: Well, I don't think that same-sex unions are marriages...
Precisely, you don't think gays and lesbians are as good as you. You don't think our relationships can be as meaningful as yours. You don't think we deserve the same thing that the government bestows on you.
What about the children raised in same-sex couples? Don't they need same protections that their friends raised with heterosexual parents have?
Your inability to acknowledge that these children also need the same protection that the word marriage provides is what gives away your animus toward gays and lesbians. You just pretend these children do not exist, because the people raising them are gay or lesbian.
Alternately, the idea that gay marriage shouldn't be allowed because a child must have a mother and father...what about all the single parents out there? 34% of families are single-parented in the US. Should they have their children taken away to a heterosexual married couple?
Being against interracial marriage is bad because you're keeping a white and black person from being together. However, if you are for interracial marriage, blacks and whites can get together, as well as blacks and blacks, as well as white and whites.
Being against gay marriage is keeping men from each other and women from each other. However, if you are for gay marriage, men can get together, women can get together, and men and women get together.
So isn't it the exact same thing then?

The argument Gallagher makes is atrocious about majority opinions.
Well I say, where was the majority during the original american Civil Rights Movement? It is imperative for the courts to rule in a manner that is respectful of the constitution and the rights that people are entitled to. It is not alright for the average joe to make that decision. By her argument, equal rights for blacks would not have been established because they were not the opinions of the majority (initially)

MARRIAGE EQUALITY FOR ALL!

Most say it's the single parents who create gay children. So to them, yes, they should have their children taken away.
Which is sad, because one day one of them will die, and they won't be allowed to keep their kids.
