You inspired me to go to the dermatologist today. I called after watching your video the other day. I just thought I could get rid of it, I've had it for almost 9 months now. The dermatologist was great! She put me on doxyclcline and RetinA. I am waiting for the RetinA because my insurance declined it because apparently they don't think if you are over 27 you can get acne, YOU CAN! So my doctor is filling out the paperwork, I'll let you know! ) So happy that yours got better! Thx for the video!
I too have been trying to find a good Dermotologist .... Can you tell me the office where you had been too?.... If it's a private thing can you email me kwonshannel@gmail.com Please!!!!!! Thank you.........
OMG OMG OMG I happened to go to the doctor maybe 2 weeks ago and they gave me the exact same gel and they told me to use a cleanser that did not say acne on it and my face has only like 5 tiny pimples left . I jus happened to randomly click on this certain video and im glad i did, i to have been suffering for acne for 4 years im in 8th grade now and so excited for high school when i will finally have the skin ive always wanted!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
I'm so glad that you found a cure. You are so right about the mental side and the stress levels. It increases inflammation and that is the last thing you need when fighting acne. Do you drink milk and have tried to be without it? My acne kept coming back and the reason was milk. It has so much added hormones and antibiotics that it doesn't always suit our female hormone balance. I got rid of my acne (horrible cheek version) with acupuncture and cleaning up my diet (drastically).
I'm really happy I watched this video. I've been suffering from acne for 15 years. (I'm 25) I went to dermatologists in middle and high school but stopped once I got to college out of pure frustration. I've had a couple instances when my skin was clear for months but always came back. It's been pretty minor over the past couple of years but recently it's been pretty bad. As a result, I've made two appts with the dermatologist but canceled them and I'm finally going next week. Hopefully I get yo
Great video!!! I used a product from the UK called Teenage Dream by Mama Nature. It has been a revelation for me. It contains natural oils which you would think would make your skin more oily but amazingly it does the opposite. It doesn't dry your skin out though and it gives it a nice feel. It is expensive ($37 including shipping from the UK) and it made my acne worse at first but then it got better and now it is gone. AWESOME PRODUCT. A friend has had similar results. I am spreading the word.
u should do a acne scars video....i used everthing too nd my mom finally let me go to the doctors for it nd they gave me q topical gel nd the retna A! it basically cleared i up!!! im 14 nd i got it when i was 13 but she gave it to me cuz mine was SOOOO SOOO bad!
@melissila1 when i went i didnt so they could look at the severeness of my skin but it all depends cuz they wont treat it then theyll just give u a perscription.
@butterflysflyhigh1 thanks so much for your response! Have you ever tried mineral makeup like Alima pure? I've been using it, love the coverage, but not sure if the titanium & zinc oxide are breaking me out? Any thoughts? Thanks again!
Can you please write down the products and their price? I would like to try them or ask my doc about them. I have a bit of acne since I was a teenager. But my acne is not at the surface of my skin is under it, I am the only one that knows the spots are there cos they hurt and they stay for a long time before they get to dissolve. Please!! thank you :D im glad you are done with acne and a bit jealous :P
can you PLEASE do a video on how you deal with the peeling? i recently started using a prescription retinoid and it's been making my face a flakey mess and i can't wear makeup which makes me feel so much more self conscious :(
FYI, I'm sure someone said this but if your into natural stuff you will want to know. Retin-A is the topical version of Accutane. Which is fine if your fine with it but its very very strong stuff. I went to a dermatologist in the spring and got the exact same type of stuff! i cannot believe how much it has changed my skin. I have used it now for 6 months and hardly ever break out. acne is the worst feeling in the world and its amazing to have such nice skin now! everyone should have nice skin and be happy!!!! :)) yay for you!
Congrats!! I can totally understand what you are feeling right now!! I suffered with acne for a long time and once it began to clear up I literally felt in heaven. Now I try to always stop and thank God for helping me clear up my skin ;)
Hey Nikki! I am a fellow acne sufferer and I was wondering what you use to take off your makeup at night. I am currently using the Yes to Cucumbers makeup wipes, but I wanted to see what you have been using because your skin looks great! Also, as far as concealer goes, have you tried the Tarte Amazonian Clay Smooth Operator concealer? I love mine! Great for pale and dry skin.
i got prescribed the exact same gel and i had total clear skin for nearly six months and i thought it was gone... and then all the sudden my acne came back and got to the worst it's ever been and still is. i hope the same doesn't happen for you! D:
I'm really happy for you, but I'm pretty sure using antibiotics on a daily basis is not very good for your body overall - it can make harmful bacteria more resistant, and your immune system weaker in the long run. I'm not trying to be a downer or anything, I just thought it's important to point out. I'm really happy about the clear skin though! that's fantastic :)
ahhh i envy you! i brought my acne up with my doctor but she basically told me it wasnt bad enough to prescribe anything, which i disagree with! i always have at least three problem areas just because i do a good job covering it up doesnt mean its not there
@juliexo726 try going to a different doctor if you can! My first doctor told me that, and I ended up switching to a different dermatologist, one that my dad recommended to me because he liked her, and she prescribed me something, and my skin has gotten sooo much better!!! Hope that helps you!!!
my sister used anitibiotic on her legs because they were itchy and its what her dematolagist told her to use...but my aunt who IS A DOCTOR said its not good and will take the bad and GOOD STUFF AWAY!
im using retin-a, and i am literally going through the exact same point in the treatment now where i break out SOOOO bad, so i was so reassured when you put this video up :) thank you so much nikki i love your videos <3
And you'll love your "cure" when your body gets used to it... If you thought you had problems fighting your cystic acne, just wait. :/ I've been fighting it nearly 20 years. :(
so i have to go to my normal doctor so he can perscribe me to a dermatologist? so what do i tell ym doctor? that i want to see a dermatologsit or that i want to get rid of my acne? haha ..if i tell him i want to get rid of my acne wont he just perscribe me something himself?
@luvshoezmuch1034 Contact your insurance company, and they will let you know if you need a referral or not. Some policies are different than others, and they may have a list of approved dermatologists. Some physicians are willing to prescribe you "cosmetic medications" if you ask about them specifically, but they'll typically refer you to a specialist if you have a chronic concern like acne that's not connected to any underlying medical condition they're treating you for.
What about back or chest acne? I've had that for yearssss! Tried oxy clearing treatment, mario badscu drying lotion/cream/mask ... they all worked but then it came back. Any ideas?
i struggled with acne for the first time ever earlier this year. i started using proactiv and that has helped clear up my skin but my concern is that i'll have to continuing using proactiv for years to come if not forever. call me paranoid. have you talked with your dr about a timeline for your skin and the products you're currently using? is this a short term treatment? sorry if those are personal questions, i'm just curious how long patients typically have to use those prescriptions.
i use several things now, including retina and i have black scars, which don't go,they have caused me to have different skin tones, but i am currently using bio-oil to try and see if the scarring will fade a bit, but knowing that yours has gone after 6 years gives me hope. Thank you :)
they took my blood to check if i was allergic to anything, and found i was not , so they put me on a pill, which made everything terrible, my acne was worse than ever, i felt tired all the time and kept falling asleep, i would get dizzy at random moments.it was awful. so i left them and just went to my GP (i live in the UK).
I have acne, I've had it for 6 years as well, I have it on my face, chest and back (from top to mid point). i have a lot of scars and i am of black origin and my skin reacts to a lot of things uneasy. i have been to the dermatologists.
I so hope I can get those in the UK, I use everything acne preventing I can and the only thing that helped was my pill. except it made me miserable. so now i'm not on it and all my acne has come back. :(
A lot of people think that if they go to the dermatologist that they will be given accutane right away an I know a lot of people are concerned about accutane , but they really save that as a last resort, but it is a lot like retin a, it is just a vitamin A derivative that you take orally
Hey Nikki please answer ( : I use the first product you showed but i have only been on it for a few days... how long did you have to use it for it to work?
if you have dry skin why did they give you a gel instead of a lotion? im really curious because my doctor gave me clindamycin phosphate topical solution, USP 1% and i have oily skin
@juhnettie Erythromycin does not come in a lotion as far as I'm aware. I use it too and it used to be a topical solution but I think they stopped manufacturing it,and now I was switched to the gel. My derm says to only use it on small areas, like actualy spots, so it shouldn't be too irritating even for dry skin. I rarely use it though because I rarely break out when using Retin-A.
I just started using Retin A and at first my skin was a mess! In my first week, my skin was so sensitive. I wanted to quit using the cream but my doctor told me to stick with it. My skin was red and I had terrible breakouts. I am on the second week, and already its looking much more clear. I have combination skin and nothing else has worked so I am hoping that this product will do the trick for me, just like it did for you! Love your videos! <3
@juicycandy107 You should definitely try the gel (retin-a micro) instead of the cream if you're using it for acne because the cream DOES contain a very pore-clogging ingredient (isopropyl myristate) and is not meant for acne-prone skin. I just told my derm I wanted it because it was a better formulation and I was having more breakouts, and the micro starts at a higher dose (0.04%) It costs the same under my insurance. Good luck!
Hi Nikki, I had a similar issue with my skin until i started using benzoyl peroxide overnight and it cleared me up beautifully. The only thing you have to be careful about is your skin's increased sensitivity so watch what you use because i recently broke out from exfoliating too harshly :)
Just wanted to warn you that Retin A eventually really thins your skin where you apply it. Just be careful if you wax at all! I'm an Esthetician and I've heard some horror stories when I went to school for it. When the skin gets that thin and you wax (especially if it's too hot), the skin comes up with it. It heals but it takes a long time and it will likely scar!
last month i told my mom that i want to go to the dermatologist n my dad also encourage it but in my place we need to take the reference letter from doctors at any clinic so that clinic doctor didnt give the letter to refer the dermatologist n at last i still cant go to the dermatologist n now my skin get worst every single hour
I got Retin-a too from my dermo as well, it works great... I had that and doxycycline hyclate but once I stopped taking them my skin went back to bad...... Stay on them for at least a year!!!!!! SERIOUSLY. And if you stay on the Retin-a it'll get rid of ur scars in 12-18 months.
"ANIMAL CLAWS" Hahaha! NIKKI, you look even more beautiful when you have your hair up! And pink is such a cute color on you! <3 Okay, enough with the compliments. I hate you ;)
wow this is my first time watching yor video, and I also have the same problem as you, I went to the doc and got the same cream which gave me an allergic reaction so I am not using it, and pills which the side effects are killing me. Hope your method works, thanks for sharing! oh, and i am also a fan of natural stuff!
Hi Nikki! I have a quick question about your visit to the dermatologist. When you go to the dermatologist do you wear foundation? Is it okay if you have makeup on your face? Because I'm going after school and don't really want to go foundation free at school, because you know acne :P I really hope you can answer this :)
@Moomoeful it would be better if you do not have any makeup on when you see the dermatologist so he/she can see your skin better and prescribe medicine that will work for you. You could remove your makeup just before seeing the dermatologist. then reapply your makeup after (; all the best for your skin! Drink lots of water for clear skin. It really helped my skin a lot. My skin cleared up a lot faster
So do you have to keep repeatdly using those two products or will the cystic acne just eventually stop and you can stop buying the prescription? Or is it like a lifelong prescription where if you stop using it will come back? :) so happy for you! -3
As a teen I'm really big into skin care. I've had mild acne since 7th grade. Nothing that make up couldn't cover but just as you I tried everything in the books ex proactive etc etc. my mom suggested that I see my doctor. I went to see my doctor and she prescribed me with retin A. For the first 2 months my skin became enflamed, dry, and extremely acne prone. However after my initial reaction my skin dramatically cleared and is the smoothest it has ever been! Everyone needs to see their doctor t
@sierrabaileyyy when your skin was enflamed and dry, did it look bad when you went out in public? because i want the result of the product but im scared of the process looking bad
Ohmygod. I got crazy bad cystic acne when I started college. My dorm was really gross and I think there was mold on the ceiling that somehow caused all of this. Anyways, I'm into my 4th year of it and I finally went to a new derm. My old one was a mean terrible old man. Anyways, I started taking an antibiotic and using a similar process. How many months did it take you for everything to clear up? I'm trying to be patient and I sort of see a difference but this is major annoying.
My doctor perscribed me that first gel product when i was around 13-15 and it is a literal miracle product! i have never seen anything that has worked that amazing. I have been off of it for about 4 years and I really need to go back on it. Your video has convinced me to go back and get a new perscription for it!
I use Acanya (Benz. Peroxide and Clindamyacin) which sounds similar to what you are on in AM as well and Retin A Micro at night similar to you! Great duo, especially for cystic acne! So happy for you! Skin looks amazing! :)
I had acne too, but only for like one year, I then went on accutane and now I have clear skin again :) I have a lot of acne scars though too so I want to ask what you are using to get rid of them cause I don't really know what to use... I hope you'll answer me :)
I've been going to the dermatologist since I was 13 and I am now almost 18 and none of the products he gave me worked, permanently at least. I think this should just be kept in mind, the derm is not a miracle worker.
I'm so happy for you Nikki! I completly agree the dermatologist is always the best bet, even if they don't prescribe the best thing the first time they'll work with you to find the perfect cure.
i had acne four years before i get in any treatment my first was vichy and i never tryed anything alse i have oily skin so i think maybe im gonna have for ever just a little acne like periond acne and from the oilness
i went an he told me that my face gonna start going like when is realy realy dry? and i was like what? i sed thank and then when i went to home i was like no way!!!on schoolmate with worst acne had the same and she never took it too ..so after a month my granma ask a woman that knows a lot an she recomed the vichy cream and shoap and sins then my oilness is better too
i have the vichy have help me and i have it for two years i dont do a healthy diet so i think thas why im so latebut when i got it two years ago it startet to heal about in the week so i think i might get rid of it in the next year
ive noticed a lot of people make that noise when they eat and don't know theyre doing it lol so don't worry about it, just proves that you love what ur eating :]
I have had acne for 4 years so far and I use proactive hasn't clearnd my skin but has made it a million times better if you touched my forhead It was like just bumpy no clear spot now i still break out alot but compared to before not much
Nikki, do you have sensitive skin? Just wondering, because I have really sensitive skin and if you have it too and those products work on your skin, then I know it could work on mine. Just don't want to waste money so I'm checking ahead.
@Bananieify Hi! I'm on the same exact medicines as Nikki here, and the retenae product is what helps with scaring (as my dermatologist said). As a natural route, you can put lemon juice on your face everyday and it will help your scars lighten. :)
I am glad you found something that helps, but allow me to asked what happens if you get off the antibiotics in the creme? I am mean you can't use antibiotics forever, so I was just wondering because for me if I get off antibiotics it comes back after a while.
My best friend dealt with acne scarring for years and years. A couple of years ago Macy's had that event where they were giving away Estee Lauder products as the result of some lawsuit. She picked up the Estee Lauder 'Advanced Night Repair' Synchronized Recovery Complex and swears it's what helped clear up the scarring. She saw results within a couple of months. It's definitely expensive, but see if you can pick some up on ebay or something. She swears it saved her face. Good luck!!

Cheers to clear skin! xox.

@juliexo726 try going to a different doctor if you can! My first doctor told me that, and I ended up switching to a different dermatologist, one that my dad recommended to me because he liked her, and she prescribed me something, and my skin has gotten sooo much better!!! Hope that helps you!!!

luvshoezmuch1034 2 months ago
@luvshoezmuch1034 Contact your insurance company, and they will let you know if you need a referral or not. Some policies are different than others, and they may have a list of approved dermatologists. Some physicians are willing to prescribe you "cosmetic medications" if you ask about them specifically, but they'll typically refer you to a specialist if you have a chronic concern like acne that's not connected to any underlying medical condition they're treating you for.

is this a medication that you will have to be dependent on forever to have clear skin?
optimisticwreck 2 months ago
i struggled with acne for the first time ever earlier this year. i started using proactiv and that has helped clear up my skin but my concern is that i'll have to continuing using proactiv for years to come if not forever. call me paranoid. have you talked with your dr about a timeline for your skin and the products you're currently using? is this a short term treatment? sorry if those are personal questions, i'm just curious how long patients typically have to use those prescriptions.

i use several things now, including retina and i have black scars, which don't go,they have caused me to have different skin tones, but i am currently using bio-oil to try and see if the scarring will fade a bit, but knowing that yours has gone after 6 years gives me hope. Thank you :)
thatsweetbambi 2 months ago
they took my blood to check if i was allergic to anything, and found i was not , so they put me on a pill, which made everything terrible, my acne was worse than ever, i felt tired all the time and kept falling asleep, i would get dizzy at random moments.it was awful. so i left them and just went to my GP (i live in the UK).
thatsweetbambi 2 months ago
I have acne, I've had it for 6 years as well, I have it on my face, chest and back (from top to mid point). i have a lot of scars and i am of black origin and my skin reacts to a lot of things uneasy. i have been to the dermatologists.
thatsweetbambi 2 months ago
I so hope I can get those in the UK, I use everything acne preventing I can and the only thing that helped was my pill. except it made me miserable. so now i'm not on it and all my acne has come back. :(

A lot of people think that if they go to the dermatologist that they will be given accutane right away an I know a lot of people are concerned about accutane , but they really save that as a last resort, but it is a lot like retin a, it is just a vitamin A derivative that you take orally
struckanerve88 2 months ago

Musiclover2722 3 months ago
if you have dry skin why did they give you a gel instead of a lotion? im really curious because my doctor gave me clindamycin phosphate topical solution, USP 1% and i have oily skin
juhnettie 3 months ago

juicycandy107 3 months ago

HannaAlice1 3 months ago
Hi Nikki, love your videos you're so fun!
So happy for you that your skin has cleared up :)

Hi Nikki! I have a quick question about your visit to the dermatologist. When you go to the dermatologist do you wear foundation? Is it okay if you have makeup on your face? Because I'm going after school and don't really want to go foundation free at school, because you know acne :P I really hope you can answer this :)
Moomoeful 3 months ago
@Moomoeful it would be better if you do not have any makeup on when you see the dermatologist so he/she can see your skin better and prescribe medicine that will work for you. You could remove your makeup just before seeing the dermatologist. then reapply your makeup after (; all the best for your skin! Drink lots of water for clear skin. It really helped my skin a lot. My skin cleared up a lot faster
pyxieliz92 3 months ago

I've been going to the dermatologist since I was 13 and I am now almost 18 and none of the products he gave me worked, permanently at least. I think this should just be kept in mind, the derm is not a miracle worker.

Good luck!!
