Just not very much because fabric has high air resistance and high internal friction between the folds and bettween the fibres , and low mass, so what little momentum it gets from the quake dissipates very quickly. Being attached to the rail also limits how far it can move.

power didn't go off instantly in alot of places. in a few places it didn't go off at all. for alot of the city power went out because it was turned off to prevent fires and electrocution.
1 the power circuits would have been different at your house
2 the laptop was on a keylogger so the webcam was on since 12:00.am
3 I got used to earthquakes when I lived in Papua New Guinea
4 Since the room was once flipped over (pratical joke) I took the liberty of bolting everything down apart from the desk that the laptop was sitting on

reason 1: No sound. Since the first laptops with webcams in 2006 ALL laptops have had microphones. Sound has been excluded because anyone who was in the earthquake would know that the ground was rumbling.

2. Christchurch earthquake seemed like it was going side to side because of the different type of tectonic movement.

That's the way I remembered it shaking at our place. There was a bang then the house started moving from side to side (east to west) it seemed to pause for a bit then shook more violently before being followed up by numerous aftershocks. I can't at all see how that footage is fake.
I was here to experience this awesome act of mother nature, I believe this video is real as its pretty much what happened at my house too. Pretty scary eh? :/

5: I was up when the earthquake struck and the power went straight out. it did not flicker on and off.
6: How the hell did you manage to start the webcam in time for the earthquake.
7: You seem way to calm because you just walked straight back in and talked to the webcam.
8: The camera is shaking more then many items around the room. Why was the bed shaking violently and the guitar leaning on it not.

I don't like saying fake and gay, so i'll call it staged and bi-curious.
reason 1: No sound. Since the first laptops with webcams in 2006 ALL laptops have had microphones. Sound has been excluded because anyone who was in the earthquake would know that the ground was rumbling.
2: at 00:10 to 00:12 you can see the guitar strap being pulled.
3: The curtains not moving
4: anyone who says the bed is moving should know that there was probably someone under it possibly... SEE NEXT POST

1. This is a fake easy (notice the guitar strap being pulled), but its a good representation of what happened.
2. Christchurch earthquake seemed like it was going side to side because of the different type of tectonic movement.
3. @AlexV2008 "To top it all off!! the guitar on the bed would have fell over as well." -My bass stayed standing and it was leaning on my table. A much smoother, and harder surface than the soft bed that moulded around the guitar neck.

At 0:10 - 0:12 You can see the strap being pulled. If you dont see this i recommend corrective lenses.

You stupid USA shits, it was names a strike slip fault so it laterally moves each side of the fault ours moves 4 m opisite ways creating lateral motion that then reverbated off the foot hill so it felt like some one smashed into the house with a monster truck, the quakes you feel there are named normal and the thrid type is a thrust quake where the fault shots up over the fault that feels diff again from rolling, you stupid borat ball liking yanks mother fuckers.

That's the way I remembered it shaking at our place. There was a bang then the house started moving from side to side (east to west) it seemed to pause for a bit then shook more violently before being followed up by numerous aftershocks. I can't at all see how that footage is fake.

@AlexV2008 Every earthquake is different. The Sept CHCH earthquake and the Feb 22nd CHCH earthquake were completely different. The 7.1 (Sept) rolled, and the 6.3 (Feb 22nd) jolted.

I wonder what's going on? We've had two 7s and a high 6 this year down in Baja California, far enough away I just caught the edge of them, but still. It sure seems like there have been a lot of 7+s around the world this yeare!

I'm intrigued by the religious fundamentlism that has emerged. I'm no theologian but the idea that Jesus (the son of God) "owns" everything and everyone and that he "won" them seems to me entirely opposite to the dynamic of Christian teachings. Also, bar the fact that the city most affected is called "Christchurch", wouldn't an earthquake at Rome be more of a wake up call? Plus I wonder whether the flooding in Pakistan, earthquakes in China and the trapped miners in Chile are wakeup calls?
