Yeah, 4 fingers gets from my chin to my adam's apple, even if I pull my head back and tilt it down so my ears are behind my shoulders and my head is clearly pointed at the floor... I appreciate the advice that is clearly working for everyone else, though.
If your neck is longer than 4 fingers then you may need to do some stretching. If your shoulders are sloping, it is desired to raise them. If not you may not be allowing enough air into the lungs. Besides, it looks better to have shoulders within 2 inches of chin level. Lengthen the spine, free the neck. Balance the head a top the shoulders,ears above the shoulders. The sternocleidomastoids will help to pull up the clavicle and the sternum. With it, the chest will rise.
The diagnosis of the problem is OK, the remedy is useless - as ImyManz99 says, it does not address the fact that we revert to our habitual posture as soon as we stop 'doing' the remedy. Also, pulling the head back to remedy the head-forward habit just creates extra tension on top of what is already there. . Check any vid on Alexander Technique to find a better way to sort this out.
90% of these posture videos are worthless. Anybody and "sit straight" if they force themselves to correct their slump. Good posture is when you don't need to remind yourself to correct your position, the moment you take your mind off of your posture, you will slouch again. None of these videos seem to address this point.
