I don't get it. Was this video supposed to make Shawn look bad? Because I agree with Shawn on this one. They do translate King James into other languages. It's not absurd.
@BornAgainstMormons I've struggled with this inherited condition for since my early teens. So, I am intimately acquainted with this illness, and what conditions can worsen an already chronic condition into a lethal one. The additional stresses placed by the Mormon culture on a person predisposed to depression, young men in particular, can be lethal. I firmly believe if I hadn't left the LDS church, I would be dead. As is my brother, and that poor Swartz kid who couldn't say "No Bishop".
Dude why doesn't bob just call the show or you call the show you guys talk all this crap about Shawn but he hasn't been wrong on one thing yet about the church and from when he reads the bible

-It's modeled after the statue atop the Salt Lake City Temple in Utah. That statue was designed in the late 1800s by Cyrus E. Dallin, the sculptor who also created The Scout in Kansas City's Penn Valley Park.
@rickgigliotti -- Good call, Shawn has the facts and speaks the truth, but some refuse to see truth and are too pridefull and arrogent to let go for fear of looking bad...I would rather look AND smell bad for the lords sake,
there is no such thing as a Christian Mormon... there are Christians and there are Mormons. they are mutually exclusive because they don't believe the same things. There may be Christians who are in the LDS, but they will soon leave if they are real Christians. God will lead His children out of these religious prisons.
@BornAgainstMormons that doesn't make any sense. so you are saying the LDS believes its ok to be Christian and not mormon? Christianity says Mormonism is not Christianity so how can you believe that? The two religions don't have the same fundamental beliefs so they cannot be different forms of each other.
@BornAgainstMormons The Bible, God's word, speaks for Christianity. It says the a Christian is this and only this: One who follows Christ alone. Christ ALONE. The Bible continually speaks of the sufficiency of Christ and the sufficiency of scripture, The Bible. We don't need any other prophet and we don't need any other text. That is what The Bible says. That's not my idea. So the Bible is the authority here... and it should be for you also if you are actually a Christian. leave the LDS.
The massive business and ecclesiastical empire that is Mormonism today owes its 110-plus years of prominence to Woodruff, who made the tough calls needed to eventually turn Mormonism into a religion that garnered, even demanded, respect from what Woodruff and his peers once called "gentiles," or non-Mormons.
The valley has one of the largest Mormon populations in the country. The church estimates there are 16 million Mormons around the world, yet there are many misconceptions about the religion.
So LDS leaders have launched a new media campaign in a handful of U.S. cities, hoping to put some friendly faces on their often-misunderstood faith
“Pursuing your dream of a happy family will require that kind of vision and that kind of persistence because I can promise you there will be hard days in your marriage and in your child-rearing. When the going gets tough, the committed get tougher
The congregation is divided into stakes, geographically defined groups of members. The stakes are then divided into wards each having around 250-450 members, said Soderborg. Each ward has their own bishop and type of members.
EVERETT, Wash. — All it took was a few pictures of a Methodist doctor's medical mission for a Mormon woman to want to help. And because of it, many children's lives will be saved.
"Solomon's Temple: Myth and History" is a beautifully illustrated book, not only about the Bronze Age background and historical reality of ancient "Israelite Temples," the title of the first of the volume's five chapters, but also about the afterlife of those temples, and particularly that of Solomon, in subsequent Jewish tradition, Christian thought and Islamic lore.
One purpose of LDS temples is providing a place for couples to be married not only for time but also for what church members believe is an eternal union that exists beyond death. Temple presidents are among those authorized to perform temple marriages.
Lamb said the position of temple president fits Hafen, who has written extensively about courtship and relationships.
"My doctor estimated I had two-to-five years to live. What was I going to tell my beautiful wife, Elizabeth, and our four boys? How do you explain to 8-, 6-, 4- and 1 -year-old boys that their father's time on this earth is limited?" he said.
As for Nephi's older and often rebellious brothers Laman and Lemuel, we find that the personal name "Lemuel" is mentioned in the Bible, but "Laman" is not. Dr. Hugh Nibley noted many years ago that these names are not only Arabic "but they also form a genuine 'pair of pendant names,' such as ancient Semites of the desert were wont to give their two eldest sons" (An Approach to the Book of Mormon, 232).
According to Cook, Sherman was a close friend of Joseph Smith. He served as a president in the first Quorum of the Seventies from 1835 to 1837. Sherman also remained a very faithful member of the LDS Church. Just before Christmas 1835, Sherman approached Smith and said that he felt he was in need of a revelation. Smith obliged almost immediately, telling Sherman via the revelation that “your sins are forgiven” and “let your soul be at rest concerning your spiritual standing.”
Recognizing the impact of the economic downturn on California’s local, regional and state parks, Mormons designated May 8 a statewide day of service.
Los Altos Mayor David Casas, who participated in the volunteer efforts at Redwood Grove, prepared a city proclamation recognizing May 8 as Mormon Helping Hands Day.
To follow him is to apply correct principles and then witness for ourselves the blessings that follow. This process is very complex and very simple at the same time. Ancient and modern prophets described it with three words: 'Keep the commandments' -- nothing more, nothing less" (Dieter F. Uchtdorf, "Developing Christlike Attributes," Ensign, October 2008, 49).
President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, second counselor in the First Presidency, explained: "To follow Christ is to become more like him. It is to learn from his character. As spirit children of our Heavenly Father, we do have the potential to incorporate Christlike attributes into our life and character. The Savior invites us to learn his gospel by living his teachings
what a great time it is to be a latter day saint. following the gospel of Christ and having the holy ghost as a constant companion are things everyone deserves to have in their life. Ask your local LDS missionaries for help finding that sweet spirit of Christ to guide you daily.
@neil73 The wearing out of a particular copy of scripture therefore in no way brought the life of the book to a close—it could not perish. In Egypt it was simply renewed (ma.w, sma.w) "fairer than before," and so continued its life to the next renewa
As to the first point, when a holy book (usually a leather roll) grew old and worn out from handling, it was not destroyed but renewed. Important writings were immortal—for the Egyptians they were "the divine words," for the Jews the very letters were holy and indestructible, being the word of God. l
Shechem had not only defiled her but had kept her at his home. Now look at 34:3; Shechem was so unreliable and unstable as to mistake what he had felt and what he had done for love. "And his soul unto Dinah the daughter of Jacob, and he loved the damsel, and spake kindly unto the damsel.
Note the verbs in this passage: SAW; TOOK; LAY; DEFILED.
To this list we might add one other verb, implied in the content of Genesis 34:26: KIDNAPPED. "And [Levi and Simeon] slew Shechem his son with the edge of the sword, and took Dinah out of Shechem's house, and went out."
The 17-year-old from Sammamish, Wash., applied only to be a Cougar.
"BYU is the only place you can go and have fun being a Mormon," he said.
Allison Sanford, 19, of Tucson, Ariz., also only applied to BYU, even though she could have received a full-ride scholarship at some of the colleges in Arizona.
Colorful flags of more than 100 countries, loaned from the Church's Public Affairs Office in New York City, surround the walls as a backdrop and go hand-in-hand with the painting "Children of the World," by LDS artist Greg Olsen, that is a focal point of the exhibit.
SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH - The spirit of migration is alive and well. The past, present, and future of international migration will come together in one location on March 18, in Salt Lake City at an unprecedented Immigration Family History Expo.
Lisa worked with her, showing her exercises she must do to begin to strengthen her leg and explained, Peripheral nerves repair very slowly. It will take her months of work to be able to walk again, but she can.
Meanwhile, two of the Healing Hands Haitian staff were also working with her. Like most Haitians, they have their own wounds—only theirs are invisible. Jony St. Louis and Hervia Paul both lost their spouses in the trembler, and their wounds arent dressed and bandaged.
The fact that God directed ancient prophets to keep records, and secure them away so that Joseph Smith could restore their words, tells us that God wants us to learn something from these ancient Americans and that he ensured a relatively accurate English translation of the actual words recorded by the ancient Nephite prophets.
Joseph Smith received many revelations in his lifetime; a great number of which came without the need for, or presence of, ancient documents. If God wanted to teach the spiritual truths recorded in the Book of Mormon, he didn't necessarily need an ancient document as the source.
When asked how this effort helps others, Romney said a friends family history research had been stalled for years. But as a result of using online indexed data bases, she has now been able to research literally hundreds of her ancestors.
Indexing allows an army of volunteers from around the world to help preserve and make records of our ancestors available online for research. Using an online system, volunteers can easily extract data from valuable records and provide free searchable indexes for all to use from the convenience of their homes.
Heidi Romney, a member of the stake, is the index coordinator and stated that since 2005 over 350 million records have been indexed worldwide.
Locally we are just a small part of a global effort, Romney said. The LDS Church has over 200 camera teams in 45 countries recording some 60 million images a year.
To Shawn McCraney all the Bible is a book he likes to SPIN. I wish he would learn to ACCEPT God's word and NOT make up what he wants God's word to be!
"Sure we have a long way to go. But some steps have been taken in that direction through the Perpetual Education Fund."
He continued, "We often say there is a ripple effect. We have 40,000 recipients now. But how many people are touched by those 40,000? Maybe it's 500,000. We don't know how many are touched, but we know that there is a tremendous impact that goes way beyond helping one individual."
Elder Carmack showed other scriptures that guide the PEF program. (See, for example, Doctrine and Covenants 104:12-18, Moses 7:18.)
"Wouldn't it be great if one day we could look back and say here is the kingdom of God and the great thing about it is there are no poor among those people?" Elder Carmack asked. "And why is it?
Because they share and they have opened opportunities for everyone to receive education, knowledge and training so that they can become self reliant and eradicate poverty among themselves.
That was President Hinckley's concern, Elder Carmack said, as he looked at places where some members had to work hard just to subsist and had little chance to get an education and improve themselves.
Then Elder Carmack said, "You have a prophet who looks at that and he says we're not really the Lord's if we don't do something about this situation of inequality."
These videos get more strained all the time. Saying that Shawn doesn't teach about his own religion and that he doesn't know the Bible.
I believe Shawn teaches from the Bible on almost ALL of his shows, since that is the main purpose of his show, comparing and contrasting Mormonism to Biblical Christianity. Give it up, your videos aren't even close to making a point or trying to convince someone of anything.
We don't have a different Jesus just a different understanding of him based on both modern day revelation and the first vision of Joseph Smith. (seeing both God the father and Jesus Christ together side by side)
"He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.
The idea of having "one wife" was already well known and accepted by fellow Gentiles which is why it was hard to agree to.
These folks were willing to do whatever the Lord wanted them to and God decided to see if they actually would.
They were also a law given by the Lord which stated, "Thou Shalt Not Kill."
This law too is fairly cut and dry but God commanded Abraham to sacrifice his only son Isaac. In both cases, these men could all have said, "Forget this Lord, I won't do it."
*I'm willing to suggest that this isn't the only thing that Mr. McCreaney gets wrong about our church;
The so-called expert on the Mormon faith didn't even have enough foresight to realize that it is a global church where folks speak in dozens of languages?
What else could he possibly be incorrect on?
I thought he was a wreckless hater. Now I just find him amusing. He is a gregarious and persuasive entertainer and preaches his version of the truth for money which by definition is Priestcraft.
Nothing else matters except Jesus. Your priesthood, temples, laws and ordiances, baptisms, ceremonies do not lead or overcome anything. For man, it is impossible.
Yeah but none of them claim any authority from God save 2.
The rest of these folks, although well meaning, go to school or seminary to study the gospel and receive a diploma or in some cases, they just stay at home and do extensive study of the Bible. This helps them gain book knowledge and makes them scholarly in the Bible but the Bible itself says that no man takes this honor unto himself unless he was called of God, as was Aaron;
If Shawn can't be trusted on simple things like this about our church, how can his assessments laced with bias and personal angst towards the church truly be taken seriously? Anger and resentment haven't been good companions to anyone trying to make certain points; Hitler was passionate about his cause but considered uninspired by the rest of the world who did not share his lust for world dominance over them. In like manner, the true followers of Christ have no trouble dismissing his hatred.
It's been over a year since I provided a list of potential new districts. I wanted to update the list as several potential districts listed have become districts and a few more potential districts need to be added. The number in parenthesis indicates how many branches would likely belong to the district.
"I want to suggest four things I feel would be beneficial in our families at this Christmastime," Elder Cook said. "I'm not terribly concerned that there are distractions — telestial distractions — if we can put in place a few things that will help us really understand the Savior and appreciate Christmas."
Joined at the luncheon by his wife, Mary, and son, Larry, Elder Cook of the Quorum of the Twelve, spoke of the busy season of Christmas, and the many distractions that often take up one's attention. But, he said, amidst busy holiday schedules and distractions, Christmas can be a time to focus on the Savior and His teachings.
"Every scriptural text has two contexts: the immediate moment or circumstances that evoked the statement, and the larger context in which it must take its proper place in relation to all other correct principles or utterances."
McConkie explores how both apply to scripture study, warning that "all texts are corrupted by isolation."
The Mormon author points out that study methods cannot promise understanding -- that "to know the gospel you must live it." He stresses that scripture study must be guided by the Spirit and discusses "the injunction of the Lord to seek learning by faith."
McConkie explains how interpretation can lead to application in our lives, and emphasizes the importance of understanding context.

"Another challenge we have is multiplicity and diversity, because we all speak Spanish but are from different nations," Brother Gomez said. "Sometimes there is jealousy and divisions, cultural idiosyncrasies that sometimes don't play very well from nation to nation.
"Obviously, the message was a message of love. So I guess people forget the cultural differences and try to work together as a team. If this were not a production for the Church, probably this would be a huge obstacle."
While all cast members share in common the ability to speak Spanish, potential problems could have arisen from the fact that the cast of "El Salvador del Mundo" hails from a wide variety of nationalities. However, sharing a central focus on the Savior's birth proved a sufficient antidote to provincial pride.
As a result of this endeavor, a greater understanding and acceptance of each community has taken place. Friendships have been shaped and other joint community service projects have arisen.
The concert concluded with the choir's annual finale of "Peace, Peace," which symbolizes the choir's effort to bring peace and harmony to the Gilbert community regardless of religious affiliation.
SALT LAKE CITY -- The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced a public open house prior to the dedication of The Gila Valley Arizona Temple.
The public will be invited to visit the temple beginning on Friday, April 23, 2010, and continuing through Saturday, May 15, 2010, excluding Sundays.
As progress is made on these new Arizona temples, President Garn says he feels a great appreciation for the legacy of temples and temple attendance in Arizona.
Do you really believe vilifying Shawn McCraney will make aberrant Mormon doctrine true? LDS doctrine is non-Christian. You won't become gods through exaltation. You can't marry dead people. You can't "save" dead loved ones through temple mojo. Sorry to be so blunt.
Look up the theology called "Theosis" and "Deification"...one can and does become "joint-heirs" with Christ through GRACE..one becomes deified -.gods
Don't believe me?..go to your own people..you own biblical scholars who QUOTE EARLY CHURCH FATHERS on the subject. Read: "The Westminster Dictionary of CHRISTIAN THEOLOGY" ..look up "Deficiation"..a copy exists FREE on-line.
Still don't believe me?..listen to Jesus in John 10 who quotes psalm 82
The Nelson Children's Center serves more than 100 children in crisis a year providing therapy, family counseling, voluntary spiritual care and, in coordination with Trinity Charter School, individualized educational opportunities.
@ omiolo It is not clear whether this comment is directed at me or not. I am sure you would think me IGNORANT on what Christianity is and what LDS does. You seem to equate LDS with Christianity unless I am mistaken.
I am, however, well aware of what LDS teach and how it is vastly different from the Bible. Take care sir. I certainly do NOT bear any hatred or hard feelings against the Mormon people. I feel they are wrong and yes, wrong enough to lose their souls. This is my only concern. GBU
if that was TRUE, you would be able to tell the TRUTH about the LDS people. Instead you linger around us hoping in some strange way you can encourage others to be as WRONG as yourself.
I am not surprised you sidestepped my question. I didn't ask you if you told the truth about Mormons. I asked you why Mormon missionaries proseletize. Read what God supposedly told Joe about the Church during his alleged 1st vision. We KNOW why you prosyletize. All our creeds are an abomination, all our professors are corrupt, etc...
YOU people are the one promoting the KJV...uhhh.... in so far as it is correctly translated of course. In Spanish I favor the Reina Valera 1960
No sir, sadly, it is I who is getting used to your blind fanaticism. You legalistically avoid issues. A day ago I asked you if you are able to tell the truth about Christians. Now you may be playing cute and equating the word Christians and Mormons. That is your problem and not mine.This is why you really do not get taken seriously. I then asked a question you refuse to answer because it would probably expose the latent anti-Christian bigotry that is part of Mormonism. Why proselytize?
I do not hope to persuade or convert you to the truth. You are a gerbil on the treadmill of works righteousness set up by the Mormon church. Fine. Yes it saddens me to think you will be lost in hell for all eternity unless you repent and turn to the true and living God. Unless He draws you to His Son this is impossible. He must give you a new birth and the gift of faith to believe in the gospel. You must know that faith and faith a lone saves not the act of believing but the object of it.
@ omolio Is this really what you think I hope? I don't have to lie about Mormons. Emptiness? I made a bad choice? Inability to repent? You will never know th depth of sincere pain I feel as i read these said words from you. You are blind. I cannot berate a blind man for not seeing or a deaf man for not hearing. None of God's elect will be lost. That is my comfort omiolo.
As you have been trained to do you attack the true Christian and call them empty while you gorge yourself on Satan's lies.
But that is okay. Attack. Place your hand on your chest a bear testamoney or whatever you do to assure yourself you have the truth we poor gentiles can never hope to imagine. How can I who eat the True Bread who came down from heaven feel empty? How can I who quench my thirst in the River of Living Water feel thirst. I would give every bit of my material possesions to see just one Mormon find the True and living God and know the true peace of God that comes not from works but grace.
It's been prophesied long before Christ, during his ministry, and after his death that a time of "prophets" would come again and there would be men of God as messengers who would occupy positions in the church and act as stewards of the holy priesthood until the "Sons of Levi" would offer up again an offering unto the Lord in righteousness.
So far as we know, the Jews haven't accepted the resurrected Jesus Christ as their savior hence; a necesity for a "restitution of all things" must be.
These prophets at the end will be proclaim to the Jews that the Lord is coming. I am not aware of any prophets telling the world to live any laws and ordinances.
You need to move out of the Old Testament. You are not chosen and the laws and ordinances were nailed to the cross.
The advent of Christ's appearance on the earth did not nullify the covenant which God made with Abraham; and that through his seed should the families of the earth be blessed; for it was OT prophets such as Moses, Isaiah, and others who looked forward to the coming of the Messiah.
Jesus recognizes me as a good and faithful servant. I will stand on his right hand to remove all doubt being worthy to stand having allowed the healing power of Jesus to wash me clean, I will be there.
You're right about that, although I recall 1 scripture where the Jews were bragging about the lineage of Abraham and Jesus told them geneology wasn't important, that God could raise up another generation from a rock.
Heritage and geneology doesn't matter. No one is special or important to God. His Son is.
In like manner, the Lord has raised a righteous generation in Israel but this time, he used the Gentiles as stewards of his priesthood and latter-day work;
I do understand the gentiles that accept Christ, "the almighty God" will be adopted into the fold.
Off topic, I have a problem with lds theft from the Biblical verse.
The tops of the mountains and Zion? Now come on! Read the chapter. It's not talking about the lds church. It is very specific and talking about the JEWS.
I don't believe the cedars of Lebanon will ever be found in Utah.
I'm not bitter or angry. Just trying to understand how Biblical theft can morph into a testimony.
And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the Lords house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it. (Isaiah 2:2)
Not much wiggle room, really.
It would seem silly to insinuate that Zion would need to be re-established in the last day if it hadn't already fallen into disbelief;
No, I'm making the statement of the establishment (or re-establishment) of Zion upon the earth. Why would Zion need to be established in the latter days if it had already been established during the times of Christ?
What about the falling away prophesied by both Peter and Paul? What about this New Jerusalem mentioned in Revelations as well?
Yes indeed it will proceed forth from Jerusalem... as soon as they accept Jesus Christ as the Messiah which hasn't happened quite yet, has it?
...furthermore, we're a little ways yet until verse 4 is proved as well;
And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.
Not trying to force a puzzle piece where it already goes... Jerusalem will be redeemed by Jesus Christ in that great day of tribulation but stewards to Zion already exist.
And the end will come and every knee shall bow. Why have you rejected him as the almighty? Why don't you worship the Lord right now? He never changes. Jesus is the almighty.
You're changing the subject. Why won't you confront what is so plainly set forth? My faith in Jesus Christ ought not to be on trial. I present something plain and easy to the understanding and then you say, "Well but what about you." I'm not really interested in proving my faith to others; only proving it to God alone... what I'm interested in is why, in your opinion, do men take this honor unto themselves, start up churches, say they are of God and do so only with a diploma?
Where there is no authority to act in Gods name, why wouldn't this apply to a bunch of old men who swear they saw Jehovah? Those men claimed authority to speak for the Lord so with the same logic that men use today about authority, if they lived during the days of Moses, might as well have denied Moses; since he didn't live during the days of Creation. He just wrote about them.
How are we to know he wasn't just making it up? Just like you, there were thorns in the side of Israel.

The "Truth" will always be the hardest thing a Mormon has to face.
Very few are able to do it...and it seems as though none can do it until they get over the false idea that everyone who is not Mormon is anti-Mormon.
The "Truth" is always the hardest thing ANY of us have to face.
But there is a reward for finding it.
John 8:32
"Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free"
Find the "Truth" even if it means you have to think outside the LDS box.
The Holy Spirit will guide you.

there is no such thing as a Christian Mormon... there are Christians and there are Mormons. they are mutually exclusive because they don't believe the same things. There may be Christians who are in the LDS, but they will soon leave if they are real Christians. God will lead His children out of these religious prisons.
paint1487 11 months ago
@paint1487 You are wrong, Mormon Christian goes together like loving charity. One signifies a higher version of the other.
BornAgainstMormons 10 months ago
@BornAgainstMormons that doesn't make any sense. so you are saying the LDS believes its ok to be Christian and not mormon? Christianity says Mormonism is not Christianity so how can you believe that? The two religions don't have the same fundamental beliefs so they cannot be different forms of each other.
paint1487 10 months ago
@paint1487 You do not speak for Christianity, please do not pretend such.
BornAgainstMormons 10 months ago

These folks were willing to do whatever the Lord wanted them to and God decided to see if they actually would.

The rest of these folks, although well meaning, go to school or seminary to study the gospel and receive a diploma or in some cases, they just stay at home and do extensive study of the Bible.

His Son is.

In like manner, the Lord has raised a righteous generation in Israel but this time, he used the Gentiles as stewards of his priesthood and latter-day work;
(See Isaiah 49:22-23)
In this wise, have I along with millions of other folks been adopted into the "house of Israel"
Indeed, the Lord can raise up a righteous branch from the house of Israel regardless of one's personal genealogy...

It would seem silly to insinuate that Zion would need to be re-established in the last day if it hadn't already fallen into disbelief;
See Acts 3:20-23)
When the Lord returns to Israel, there will be both the old and new Jerusalem.

Isa 2:1 ¶ The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning "Judah and Jerusalem."
Are you under the assumption like most lds that Isaiah is talking about Salt lake?

@awolLDSasap

@awolLDSasap
...furthermore, we're a little ways yet until verse 4 is proved as well;
And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

@awolLDSasap
THELDSLIFE 2 years ago 2
You don't know the will of God. He could easily call or lead men to study and then teach the Bible.
Men do not need authority from other men to teach the word.

@awolLDSasap
And no man taketh this honour unto himself, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron.
Hebrews Chapter 5:4 ... but reading 1-14 gives a more thorough view of why men actually DO need authority to act in Go
THELDSLIFE 2 years ago
@awolLDSasap
