I completely understand what you are going through. I was the same exact way until I got on Armour thyroid. I waited a whole year until I got off synthroid. Please check out stop the thyroid madness website. I really hope you can get off synthroid and can try armour or naturethyriod!
(1/2) hm mm, first let me give you guys a youtube hug, cameragirl xoxo, everything you mentioned with the exception of the weight I can relate, in fact i was in search to find out if jacking up the Levothyroxin,75 to a higher dose, i could say bye bye to some of these other medications, nine years ago i battled Lyme disease, then squamous cell carcinoma and the radiation left me without a thyroid, (to wake my mind up/ provigil,sleep/alprazolam), normal is a surreal term to me anymore (um cont)
(cont 2/2)all these years I'm still in search, because I have faith the mystery to correct each and every one's unique chemical disequilibrium is right around the corner, I'm not physician bashing, but if there not listening, it's time to find another, or one who will steer you in the right direction, ego in the way of health progress,a no no I find university hospital's served me well, brainstorming doctors create miracle magic, diet, fish, chicken, veg, honey fruit,* No sug.WF,Blch, 145 5'11"GL
i know what your going through. i have hypothyroisism. im only 18 years old, and im already on complete replacement pills. my thyriod is completely dead. which scares me. and because of this, over the last year or so, ive gained a good 20-25 pounds. working to get it off is the hardest part. I was diagnosed in september 2009.
@MsLizzard17 I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism when I was 12; and when they found it my thyroid was also completely dead. I wish they had tested me sooner. Since I've had this problem for 9 years I've gotten pretty good at monitoring my weight with they low thyroid. I started to have a bit of trouble after getting of birth control and found that a combination of levothyroxine with liothyronine worked best for me. Watch my video on my page for more about what i do.
@MsLizzard17 I was just diagnosed with hypothroidism in May of this year. Since then, I have been on synthroid and my levels have come back up to what it suppose to be. I'm so hopping that I don't have to be on this medication for life. Also, If you want to get that weight off kind of quick, you should do the low carb diet, but include all of your fruits, vegetables, and eat only whole grain bread, but eat the whole grain bread every other day. And walk alittle and you will get it off.
I know how you feel :( I used to weigh 50kgs, I was slim and healthy... Then suddenly I put on 20kg and started feeling like crap all the time. The doctor put me on 50mg of Thyroxine - I don't feel much different... I've stopped putting on weight but am yet to lose what I put on. So I doubled my dose (myself) ... Still nothing. Now I'm considering 3x because I so badly want to lose weight :( My doc said my levels were "normal" aka: on the lower end. Gah it sucks.
@ToadPurse The exact same thing happened to me and for a long time my doctors told me I must be imagining the symptoms. I knew I wasn't, so finally I took things into my own hands and started researching things for myself. I found a new doctor who listened to me and I think the problem is that my body is rejecting the synthroid. It's in my blood (so the bloodtests are 'normal') but my body isn't using it to fix the imbalance. I highly recomend trying to get in to see an endocrinologist.
@kiranohime I have booked in to see an endocrinologist on the 14th of Feb... Hope it goes well. Taking my boyfriend with me as I'm not sure I have the energy to argue with a doctor who won't help me. Since my last post here I've put on another 5kg. So this will take me to 75kg's all up. Covered in stretch marks too. I've noticed that my nails have ridges now.. They're really thin and brittle... Also my hair and skin are very dry :( I hate this.
@ToadPurse :( I know how frustrating that can be. I have to say though, there is a lot doctors don't know about our bodies. My endo didn't think switching to armour would make a difference for me, but I have literally dropped 60lbs since I switched to it about 3 months ago. She's still adjusting the dose. And there are things you can do to help with absorption. (I'm a "bad absorber") I'm also severely gluten intolerant and that changed a lot for me. I hope things are going better 4u
@ToadPurse also, feel free to shoot me a message if you want any tips on getting all the help you can from your doctors. Sounds like you're in a different country so I don't know if my info will work as well as it did for me, but sometimes every little bit helps.
@kiranohime Thanks :) Yeah I'm in Australia, apparently Desiccated Thyroid isn't readily available here. Your story inspires me ! Hope I can get sorted soon...
Oh wow I'm glad I'm not alone. I weigh 184 pounds and I keep gaining weight. I'm on 88 mcg levo and i still feel the effects. People think I'm pretending or fake but I'm not. I really am tired and I'm just a teenager yet I can't be as active as my friends. I'm depressed and sad most of the time. I have to handle people telling me I'm fat everyday and I don't know really how to lose weight.
I'm on 75 mg of Thyroxine and I still feel like shit. -.- right now I cannot afford to go to an endocrinologist to increase my medication, SO...I know I how you feel. I'm a total nervous wreck- I've given up on losing weight, my short-term memory loss is terrible, I have trouble reading now more that ever( but i still fucking do it) , my thoughts are foggy, my hair is so dull and dry, and I'm TIRED ALL DAY...and I get really, really depressed. Hypothyroism= A waking death
FLUORIDE IS WHAT DAMAGES YOU IMMUNE SYSTEM AND Manages YOUR THYROID IT ALSO BLOCKS IODINE UPTAKE ......... GET THE FLUORIDE OUT OF YOUR WATER just google The Effects Of Fluoride On
35 mcg is very small dose of t4. 1. Double it at minimum. 2. Dont listen to your doctor. 3. Ignore your doctor and his assertion about the tsh test. 4. Synthroid (name brand t4) has povodone in it and makes people feel like crap. Try levoxyl or levothroid. 5. Try NDTH Naturaly dessicated thyroid hormone like armour or naturethroid. 6 see dr lowe's web site (he knows a ton) 7. Dont listen to your doctor
Also, have blood work done to check your Vitamin D3, B5, and B12 levels. Hypothyroidism causes these to become deficient and also adds to your extreme tiredness. I have to take 10,000 to 15,000 IU, plus 5000mcg of sublingual B12 and the B5 (can't remember the dosage). All of this makes such a huge difference in my life now and I can tell when I'm lacking, especially on the D3. Hope this helps!
I too am hypothyroid and was diagnosed at age 44 (I'm 46 now) and gained about 50lbs. Please, please, please check out the Stop the Thyroid madness website. Youtube won't let me type the url address, but the address is the title "stop the thyroid madness" plus the .com It's a lifesaver. I take Westhroid/Naturethroid morning and night in smaller doses. It's better to take a natural thyroid (dessicated thyroid) med that contains T1, T2, T3 & T4.
Have you asked your doctor if you might have hashimoto's disease? It is a type of hypothyroidism that is more extreme because it is an autoimmune disease. If this is the case, you would need to go on a gluten free diet and stop taking iodide.
PART 7: If you don't remember ANY of this, go out and get some iodine and paint it on the tops of your feet and see how long it takes to fade (AFTER GETTING CHECKED FOR HASHIMOTO'S DISEASE).
Docs frequently UNDERprescribe enough thyroid hormone and step you up slowly, but you were probably hypo YEARS BEFORE you were diagnosed. You can order Thyodine from greenwillowtree without a doctor, it's not Rx.
PAINT IODINE, PAINT IODINE, PAINT IODINE. Iodine deficient moms give birth to ADHD kids.
PART 6: Don't fall for the green tea craze -- most of it contains FLUORIDE which causes hypythyroidism. Green tea is not an HERBAL tea. Choose herbal teas instead. Try Indian food, the spices are high in antioxidants. Choose only hormone free eggs, organic skim milk and hormone free butter for your dairy. Cut the fat off of steak before cooking (avoid rib eye, T-bone and other marbled beef, instead choose top sirloin or round steak). Don't forget Vitamin D, must be "DRY D-3."
PART 5: Replace junk food with whole foods, but wash all produce with a white vinegar-based rinse (removes pesticides that contribute to hypothyroid and Estrogen Dominance). Do not drink tap water, even some bottled water still contains fluoride. Try distilled water (many water companies will deliver it IF you ask for it). Only use a flouride-free toothpaste, like Tom's. Do not microwave entrees in their plastic trays, move them to glass dishes first. NO MORE CAFFEINE. Try Sanka or herb teas.
You may have an additional issue, Estrogen Dominance. Google it. Don't eat anything containing soy, soy isoflavones, soy lecithin, lecithin, etc. Soy will KILL your thyroid and cause weight gain (I know -- it's touted as being good for women and dieters, but it's NOT). So many "weight loss nutrition bars" contain SOY!! Get some U.S.P. grade progesterone cream to replace progesterone lost from stress, which creates Estrogen Dominance! Aerobics will help remove bad estrogens too. Iodine = energy
PART 3: Just be sure you do NOT have Hashimoto's first, b/c iodine will make Hashimoto's WORSE. Even if you are taking something from your doctor for hypothyroidism, you can "paint" iodine every other day or so. If you get too jittery, skip a few days. I hope you aren't taking anything synthetic, like Synthroid. A better choice is Armour, or even Thyodine from greenwillowtree. Another added benefit can come from taking T-3 Thyroid Booster from Absolute Nutrition.
PART 2: If you paint the top of your foot (about a 3" x 3" patch) with Lugol's iodine solution and the orange color fades in a couple of hours, you know you are severely iodine deficient. If it takes 10-12 hours to fade, then you are mildly deficient. It's a way to test, AND a way to deliver the iodine to your system. Your body will only absorb what it needs. Lugol's is the best form of iodine, as opposed to what you can buy at Walgreen's for $4, but even that will help. Google this issue!
PART 1: First, you need to be tested to see if you have Hashimoto's Disease (a type of hypothyroidism that is immunity-related where your body attacks your thyroid gland). If you have Hashimoto's, then you should avoid iodine.
BUT, if you do NOT have Hashimoto's, but are simply hypothyroid, you may INDEED BENEFIT from painting the tops of your feet every other day with Lugol's Iodine Solution. Available through Amazon.com and other websites.
I was wondering if your doctors have suggested gluten-free diet. There is a theory that gluten resembles thyroid gland proteins and when ingested immune cells attack both gluten as well as thyroid. Hashi patients may not develop clinically gluten-allergy like celiac patients would. Have you you everbeen treated with iodine? It is known that iodine exacerbates Hashi. If you are taking vitamin supplements, make sure the it does not include iodine, it should contain selenium, zinc, iron though.
Thyroid Patient Advocacy will enable you to be informed and help you manage this illness. Seriously, I was diagnosed around the same time as you and now I'm fine. I do not take Levothyroxine - it made me worse. I take T3 (Thyroid-s) and I am better now than I have ever been. It's amazing that I was confused, headaches, nervous, put on weight, tired etc and now the weight gain dropped off me immediately I got to the correct dosage of T3
First was given Vit D, then doctors started Shots of Growth hormone one injection each night then the doc diagnosed hashimotos. I had symtoms like you. All are getting better. I lived with this for the last 6 years, taking test apon test. Got the fibromyalgia Dx, from one doc. My primary doc did not believe the DX he kept digging. sent me to Endocrin. Doc,. and I started getting better with the treatment.
Also, Vitamin D and fish oil are realllly imporant if you're not already taking those suppliments - and stay away from iodione salt! (or anything with iodione in general) Im right there with you girl, its a long road but hopefully you'll start feeling better soon! Im sending prayers your way!
Hey there - Do you have hasimotos or just a sluggish thyroid? Because there is this great book called "Why Do I Still Have Thyroid Symptoms? When My Lab Tests Are Normal" by Datis Kharrazian and really helped me out a lot (I have hasimotos) Turns out a huge percentage of people who cut out gluten pretty much heal their hasimotos - for me that was the case (well, in the process of) I was shocked to find out I was allergic to gluten and even more so that it was making me even sicker
You don't know how excited I was to see a video from you this morning! Its great to see you! I'm sorry for all of the health related issues, but you are right, little baby steps, one day at a time, is the right way to go!!!! And thanks for being willing to document your journey, I'm sure alot of people will appreciate it! I will enjoy watching you as well! Hugs!
I was diagnosed in November 2009 and put on synthroid. things seemed to be going OK nd then a couple of months ago things just changed drastically. I'm experiencing a lot of what you mentioned. I made a DR. Apt its in August, so yeaaaah.
Good luck to you!! I'm looking forward to your videos.
My wife, who had done so well with Weight Watchers, before hypothyroidism kicked in, is now on an HCG diet. She has lost almost 14 pounds in a little over a week, so it does work, though the diet is restrictive, and the hormone isn't exactly cheap. I'm not sure what advice can be given, except not to lose hope in yourself, and to explore all possibilities. Take care! =^[.]^=
Good to see you back on :) Bad to see you are still struggling with this :(
I was diagnosed with Hypo in May 2009 and have horrible problems with fatigue, also. Was told I must push through it, exercise, and it will get better in time. I was wondering how many thyroid tests you have been through in the last 9 months and when was the last time your meds were increased? If your dr is not testing on a regular basis (every 6 months when levels are good, monthly when they are not), they need to be.
So good to see you again!!!!! I'm sorry you aren't doing good.....I'm praying for you girl! I hope you feel better soon! You know you have tons of support on here! Let me know if there is anything I can do girl!
I am so sorry you are sick. I get times where I am always tired too and it's horrible but they checked my thyroid and its fine,. you said you are on synthroid .. and is it not helping? my aunt has under active thyroid and when she took the synthroid the weight fell right off. I hope you feel better hun I will be praying for you.
good for you and your strength!! i know a few people with this and am going to recommend your videos to them! thank you for being so honest and you will help so many people through these videos, but most of all... i believe it will be an incredible learning experience for you, and your spirits will raise along with your inner strength :)
I know just how you feel- I've went from 165 no now 216 so understand that things happen and it's ok. I'm here for you if you need and we can do it again!!!! Best of luck and Happiness! LisaB
Oh dear, it's good to see your face here again. I hope you come back for good. I'm sorry you are struggling but I "know" you are strong woman and I believe you can do it. Hang in there, good things can happen even in the worst times.
I was diagnosed with the same thing. It's not an easy disease to deal with! I have blood work taken every 8 weeks and they just upped my Levothyroxine to 150mcg - I have swollen nodules in my neck (looks like I have the mumps). I feel your pain, I also have Fibromyalgia and totally understand the pain and being tired. Please take care and keep us posted.
Part two..I was having symptoms and I was borderline hypo, but because I was having symptoms, my endocrinologist adjusted my Synthroid up and THERE was my answer ;) I feel better when I am closer to hyper levels. It's just my body and it works. Please please please get to a specialist!!
It upsets me, cuz it sounds like your thyroid is not under control. Many people gain weight and have your symptoms prior to being diagnoised. Please get your levels checked and really think about the doctor you are with. If you thyroid is within the range, BUT you are still having these symptoms (that happened to me) then the doctor needs to know what level to move you to. I am with an endocrinologist and to me, he makes all the difference in the world.
WELCOME BACK! Hang in there and try to convince your doctor to try a two (or more if necessary!) drug therapy. Synthroid+Cytomel have me feeling better than I have in years! Took forever to convince the doc, but worth every second!
Try to hang in there and keep going to different doctors until you get the help you need. I just started seeing an endocrinologist and it's done wonders! I hope you can find the answers you need :)

Are you enjoying being back "home"?

welcome back, good luck thyroid issues

Try to hang in there and keep going to different doctors until you get the help you need. I just started seeing an endocrinologist and it's done wonders! I hope you can find the answers you need :)
