Executing your kick boxing from a circle walking position doesn't make it Bagua. Mastery of internal principles makes it Bagua! In BGZ sparring, the key point for beginners is to change direction, move side to side, stepping quickly and successively in opposite directions (circularly or straight), to confuse the opponent, to make him lose track of you! I don't see too much of that going on here..
Now i will admit that in sparring it may limit fighting but in this case it does not...cloud is right...however it all depends if it traditional and the system they are using...
It's cool, but the circle walking is for training..not actual fighting. You will be highly limited by using it like that. Also it helps train changing direction with movement and intention of opponent..So rapid change of direction/movement should happen when contact has been made.
Their circle walking is accomplishing nothing, it limits their techniques. I don't get why they're flicking kicks at each other or why there aren't weight classes, but either way, this vid seems to show that these guys have been watching way too many movies.
Unfortunately your wrong...Circle walking aids in multiple person sparring, which was the intent of this style to defend an emperor at the time. These are low level students so there really no problem...The reason there are no weight classes is because this isn't about weight.Leverage my friend.Leverage.The limiting of techniques isn't true either because a lot of the evasion and attacks involve it. Little movies have this style in it.sooo thats wrong too.Anyone can overcome weight with work...
um no sir. You are no wrong or giving incomplete info. Circle walking of this nature does absolutely nothing for sparring multiple partners. The beginning stages of bagua circle walking are to focus your intent on only ONE person/object. That is why people walk around ONE stump or tree or post. The progression to something like swimming dragon style bagua movement builds upon the circle walking in order to make it effective against multiple partners.
Staged fights have rules, and therefore should not be compared to when its time to get really busy, cause then there are no rules. Walking the circle is supposed evoke certain principles in your training martial or otherwise, so I am not sure why they have chosen the particular format in question. Just seems to me sometimes folks get confused when you are trying to stay within the guidelines agreed upon for the sake of identifying a particular style or system.
This is what actual full contact Bagua looks like. Pretty impressive huh? For all those who have yet to smell the roses... you and your teacher are different, keep training your Bagua for another 20 years, you will be able to win fights with your Bagua....

what would be the point of walking in a circle really slow if you're in a fight?
if you want to tell your opponent where you will be next, go for it!
otherwise, Bagua starts from a still position- also, most bagua doesnt kick high in fights, rooted position and all

Uh, mate, hate to break your bubble, but that didn't look very impressive at all. And this is coming from a Chinese patriot.
And why the hell is the guy in the T-shirt twice the size of the other?
