  • Classic rock

  • @KittyKranker aaand that's exactly what I read on wikipedia. Did you write that too?

  • great song. but the video...

  • -3 awesome...

  • Sometimes I like to imagine that Arcade Fire lives in my closet and will play me a live show if I open the door.

    Changing outfits is depressing.

  • @stoneymatthews Well I will disagree with you there. The Arcade fire have been rocking some of the best music out of Canada and across the world for the past decade. Bieber would have been 7 at the time of their first album. Also Bieber is technically a good singer, it's just he's over sold and produced to a public that is brainwashed into liking his music. People who hate him, would have been saying that same thing about Justin Timberlake 10 years ago. Trust me I was there, saying exactly that.

  • This album A side to B side all day errday!!!

  • I have no clue what I just watched, but I know what I heard - and I loved every second of it.

  • "If you don't listen to arcade fire then fuck you." -Ricky Bobbie

  • Jesus fucking Christ why haven't I seen this before?.... what the hell, self?

  • wow "Old School"!! Did this come on MTV2 before or after they overplayed "Power Out"? I love this song!

  • @luckiestlosser

Most of all, this song is a metaphore : what goes through the head of a child when thinking of fear (town buried), of dead of the loved ones (parents), and the attachment between friends or girlfriends (when talking about having babies here...). A great song that moves me incredibly...

  • So very glad I watched the usually very boring Grammys last night....Dig Dig Dig Arcade Fire!!!!

  • @TheHydraWomanRules yep that was a really nice sourprise ^^

  • @TheHydraWomanRules yep that was a really nice sourprise ^^

  • Arcade Fire - soon in Mexico!!

  • When I hear this I feel like i am a 5 year old out in the middle of a wheat field and I start screaming like Lola in RUN LOLA RUN and the chaos of this world comes to an abrupt halt.

  • Greatest band and song of the noughties

  • 13 people didnt dig a tunnel

  • This song made me cry. :/

  • much better than the other video.

  • This is a beautiful song, can anyone explain the meaning behind this song?

  • @LuckiestLoser1322 The album tells a story in order to explore issues of childhood. In this song, there's been a blizzard and the power has gone out. The parents have died and/or disappeared, and the kids are beginning to take over the town. This song is one kid talking to another about that experience. It could be interpreted as the two kids being just friends, or it could be interpreted as a boy singing to a girl he likes.

  • Try BAN, MOD GIRLS, ManUFactorTV, amazing tune and scooters video!

  • My friend made me a mix a few years ago time ago with this song on it. I always loved it but never bothered to look up the artist. I heard it today in a café far far away from home and my friend, and I just started smiling like a lunatic for the whole 5 minutes.

  • This song brings me to the verge of tears...of joy:)

  • Hoy desperté con esta canción en la cabeza <3

  • This song makes me feel alive. My soul wants to sing

  • Comment removed

  • the video is funny

  • Before yesterday I never heard of Arcade Fire, so don't take me for a fan-boy. Anyway I'm too wrinkled for that.

I'm quite convinced this song is a pop masterpiece.

  • this song is so addictive!! can't stop listening to it

  • Soberbio

  • if you love this song and Lost series watch the tribute video I made with this!

  • @Vidhole

The singer is originally from Texas, so that probably explains the spelling.

  • Tunnels makes everything better. Always

  • I think this is the only song that I can listen to and start crying for no particular reason. Maybe 'cause it's so beautiful, maybe 'cause it's so sad. But it's so brilliant.

  • ever noticed its neighBORhood and not neighBOURhood, even thought they are a canadian band...

  • does anyone else feel like this song has changed them? thank you arcade fire, your more then just musicians in my eyes

  • this song reminds me of the canada day in 2007.. me and my best friend sat on my deck drinking beer and doing a little bit of E we must have played this song 100 times god i miss him i wish i could be 24 again

  • This is my boyfriend's favorite of the four Neighborhood songs. Mine is Laika

  • ...Indeed. -)

  • Man, the guy in the music shop looked strangely at me when I asked for the Arcade Fire CDs. I guess most people believe that all "youngsters" listen to shit.

This is my favorite song of all time. <3

  • This song makes me happy to be ALIVE. Gets me through any day....

  • wow MTV actually played this?

  • fuck me win.

...christ, for a minute there i forgot my sexual orientation.

  • @gorgolyt

    LMAO!

  • Somehow, this song absorbed so much good in itself from my life that each time I hear it I return to the happiest times I've ever had. It's one of the reasons why I love this song so much. It has a soul, it's alive.

  • @DeviousMazes

I believe all their songs are alive.

  • @DeviousMazes sweet.

  • i can feel this song....

  • Just saw them play this at Lolla!

  • My so called best friend had this as his first dance when he got married, bloody bastard, it now means i'll have to pick something else for mine....

  • Check Out My Rendition of Hound Dog on piano!

  • There's some serious shit going on in the head of whoever wrote those lyrics - but they are brilliant!!!

  • saw them in boston

this was their last song before the encore

very magical...need to see them again

  • I'm seeing them at Lollapalooza in exactly 7 days. Excited is an understatement.

  • meaning is what it means to you. it is very personal. your interpretation is the most important thing. and it is very personal.

  • Usually songs don't leave me wordless, but in this case, I just attempt to describe it.

This is the only song that I was scared to listen to too much. I limited myself to listening it for once a week. It was too precious. Now that it's summer, I'm only waiting it to snow once again so I can pop this up.

I'm ready to go to jail for killing someone who insulted this song. Who's first?

  • @merting

    LMAO LMAO LMAO!! RoCK ON!

Have you listened to My Body Is a Cage and Cold Wind?

The first one along with a video made by someone here on youtube with different scenes from different movies.... or by itself for that matter, has the power to leave anyone breathless. Goosebumps to the point of almost needing medical attention.

Cold Wind... well it follows My Body Is a Cage.

The video I'm recomending is under the description of: Arcade Fire - My body is a cage - TT (first vid)

  • Yeah, a tunnel.

  • My favorite song/ Ma chanson préféré! Intense!

  • Sheer birlliance, just fantastic!

  • my favorite song of all time, really.

seeing these guys this sunday in boston.

expecting a little too much, i think, but how could i not.

true artists, best of this generation.

    perhaps any generation.

  • does anybody knows who is the director of the video??

    merci

  • merci pour les paroles chivil je vais enfin comprendre chaque mot!

  • Love it since a stranger sent me the link in a chat :) Could listen to it all day...

  • just sublime. very special band. superb

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!!! It's at the top of my playlist!

  • Maravillosa!!!! Arcade fire are the best!!!!!!!

  • what is this song about?

  • song of the day. 太好聽.... loooooove!

  • Beautiful in the rarest of ways.....

ahhhh this song blows my mind and soul! LOOOOOOOOOOVE it!!!!

  • This took 5 years to write

  • @PLeasureJet Well, 5 years for one of the biggest masterpieces in songwriting is ok i guess. ;)

  • Comment removed

  • @PLeasureJet the song? or the album?

  • @SlowDazzle123 the song. a few of the guys who helped write it were not even in the band when the album came out

  • man this song, whew. love.

  • Without words it creates one the most powerful experiences a song could cause. With the words you whatever they are, they just make sense.

I do have to add that this song made my car drive unnoticed somewhat a bit above the limits, and caused me 233 eur. fine :/

  • Is there a repeat button on this new youtube setup?

If there is i would like to know where, so i could have this song on repeat for the rest of the day.

SPECTACULAR song. i cant get enouph.

  • HUGE

  • this music is so dreamy

  • Best song ever written? Yeah I totally agree.

  • the vibe of the song just puts a smile on my face :)

  • lei è proprio coatta però alla batteria

  • not the best song to trip on salvia to

  • @andreahurley17

This is one of the funniest comments iv ever read

  • I dont care too much for lyrics myself. I like beats, melodies, and rhythm that sounds great. why do you think ok computer is so popular. If you think its cause of what there lyrics mean then your stupid.

  • wtf are you talking funeral is a good album but radiohead ok computer is in the top 10 of the best albums ever

  • Love them!! And tickets go on presale in 30 min for The Garden!

  • One of my favorite songs of all time....They are the talking heads for anyone born '84--give or take-and up! Hope the next album lives up to the others...!

  • This video is much more to my liking than the other one to this song. It compliments the music more directly and effectively. The other video seems to go out of it's way to distract you from the music. Really any music could be playing for the other video and it wouldn't make much of a difference.

  • yes dont drag radiohead into this, this is two different music genre's but both are great dont get me wrong but AF is one of the best and most original bands ive ever heard of

  • best band ever im in love with the violinist

  • This is truly great song writing!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Is that Napoleon Dynamite on piano?

  • @mikeua69

    hahahahha..

    nice.

  • one of the best bands out there.

  • i can die a little happier now hearing this song

  • one of the most powerful singing performances ive ever heard

  • And if the snow

    buries my

    my neighborhood

    damn.

  • i love this song

    arcada fire nice

  • ONE OF THE BEST SONGS EVER

  • essa introdução me deixa muito nostalgico.

  • so it's been 6 years... is this a classic yet?

  • @dcarr11 This is most definitely a classic.

  • "Then we think of our parents, well what the hell ever happened to them!?"

  • this song only made me think of one thing...smashing pumpkins

  • Purify the colour

    Purify my mind

And spread the ashes of the colour

    Over this heart of mine

  • arcade fire isn't a band, they are poets.

  • This song has over 300 plays on my iTunes, and I still get goosebumps and the most effervescent feeling ever. This band seriously holds my heart.

  • Hacía tiempo que no oía una canción con tanto sentimiento, por diossss !!

  • my 3rd wedding anniversary on monday and this song is responsible for our first kiss! thank you arcade fire for making the most beautiful song ever! thank you thank you XXX

  • I think it often goes unnoticed that this is a love song at it's core. Certainly other things are present in the song but in the middle of it are the only two people who survived the "snow" together. Not a conventional love song by any means, but a love song nonetheless, and probably the best one I've ever heard. Perfect song.

  • Comment removed

  • @VelvetSnow12 Totally agree!

  • @VelvetSnow12 I agree. And it isn't a conventional love song, but since when has the Arcade Fire been conventional

  • @Shika511 Yep they definitely aren't conventional, which is why they are awesome!

  • I always thought that in the end of the song he said "youre a bipolar You Inspire my mind" lol Im so dumb..

  • "MegaSandman77" - Age does not matter when appreciating perfect music like this.

I'm 28, but I've already decided I'm going to have this song played at my funeral.

  • I'm an old, old, man compared to most of you.

Heard just about everything, from every genre and every generation, a hundred times over at least.

    This is my favorite song.

I'll be able to die happy now ... I couldn't have said that before I heard it ...

  • I'm having this song played at my Funeral.

  • @MegaSandman77 hahahaha rofl your only 39, life has yet to begin!

  • @MegaSandman77 I assume the 77 means you were born in 77.. ?

    We're not old.

  • @MegaSandman77 i bet you've got a lot of tales. thanks for coming

  • @MegaSandman77 gr8 comment, are you santa?

  • This song is about spiritual alchemy. If you don't get it, then you don't get it. I get waffles though. I love how time and heat converts runny batter in to crispy golden deliciousness. This song and a good waffle-well that would be just fine with me.

  • depends on the listener i guess. most of the time i'm not interested in the lyrics, if it's good then it's a nice extra but if it's not it's not a problem. horrible lyrics do spoil a bit but not enough to destroy a song. well that's for me.

  • simply amazing...I can't stop listening

    this song is magnificent

  • can't stop listening

  • che idiota ignorante.

  • i lost Tan and Em - this song reminds me of those happy times and unforgettable days on Lowry street

  • What an incredible song.

  • Would be interested in people's interpretations on the lyrics.

For me, it's about pure escapism as a child, and dreams, not necessarily aspirations, as all us kids like to visualise and paint pictures.

Hope I'm not miles off. :)

  • I dont care what lyrics mean- probably Im thick, but it lets me like all kind of poems and songs without first needing to know the unknowable intent of writers. Meanings overrated. These words just feel great to me and something in me understands..it just aint my head.

  • @donrocin so true. i think trying to find the meaning in words sometimes forces the song into a linguistic prison cell of literal thinking and debases replaces pure feeling of the song with a desire to understand that which is simply best felt.

  • I don't mean to be rude, I really don't, but that sure sounds like a load of waffle.

They're telling a story aren't you interested in what it's about?

  • @sattfield of course the lyrics could be about something, but some songs remain better left mysteries. regardless of what this song may be about, the melody is beautifull and that's why we listen.

  • @seapockets that's why if i hear great song in a language that i don't know i usually don't try to find a translation. It's beautiful now but it could have some trivial or cliched meaning if i understood it.

  • very true, if we knew everything about a song, i think it would become uninteresting or not as exciting. Art is meant to be appreciated for what it is, not completely understood, the mystery is what keeps it living.

  • @seapockets nice said :]

  • @donrocin you are exactly right! songs aren't meant to be heard - we feel them and live them! a great song is a greater day. cheers

  • So all of you guys are more than happy if the vocalist is singing about chocolate biscuits, as long as he's putting his heart into it?

    Weird.

  • @donrocin Well said. T.S. Eliot wrote that "meaning" is what the poet gives the reader to distract him while the poem does its real work.

  • I just interpret it as a sort of gothic fairytale.

  • Every time I hear this song, its like hearing it for the first time. Pure magic.

  • SImply orgasmic.

  • @omgwtfaysha Thats because its an auditory aphrodisiac.

    I love it.

  • This video is real! I didn't even know it had a video, wow (:

    Beautiful song

  • Ah man, this was me and my ex's song. We broke up after five years, a year or so back, and now every time I hear this I think of her. D'oh.

  • While you listen to the song imagine you're in the city with the dude singing to you as you go about your day and it'll create new mental associations for the song.

  • I really love this band. This song is one of the best.

  • spent the most amazing 48 hrs in the biggest snow of my life, in the town i grew up in, with the greatest friends i've known.thinkin of this song the whole time-these lyrics meant a lot to me when the album came out and today they kind of came true!

  • great song, i think it is somehow romantic, remembers me of how lonely i am

  • 'And if my parents are crying

    Then I'll dig a tunnel

    From my window to yours'

Those lyrics got me writing songs again.

  • @sarcasmagasm What are you talking about??? This video is more than brilliant, and the song, I don´t even have a word in my vocabulary that would describe exactly how amazing it is... =))

  • One of the best songs of the past decade

  • Greetings from a snow storm :)

  • this is amazing!!!! the lyrics are stunning!!!!!

  • I can't have enough of this song .

  • Great song to start out an amazing album.....Chills throughout

    .

  • This feels like one of the most intensely personal songs I've ever heard.

  • unreal band. brilliant live to. wonder at what point they realised 4 songs all named neighborhood was too many

  • @kurtsalemslot I think the idea was to give the sense that the songs were all part of a cycle in 4 parts.

  • This is the best song from an unbelievably good album. These guys changed the face of indie music. Every new indie band is ripping of these canadians. Incredible melody in the last minute of the song.
