One of Geddy's influences was John Entwistle. I think Entwistle a lot but I dont think he could sing as well as Geddy or be able to manage bass, lead vocals, keyboard/synth, and foot triggers as well as Geddy does. But Entwitle was better on bass.
I think Geddy and Entwistle are on a stalemate as bass players alone, they both are super fast and they are both super creative I think Geddy is better because of some little details: one his short bass solo are really fast but they have so much soul into them no one can deny that and the second reason is because Geddy Lee is as fast as John Entwistle without using techniques as tapping and slap bass which for me is really awesome. And yes sometimes he does use slap bass only for sound not speed

Wow, clerical12, and metallord, ever heard of this band called NIGHTWISH. NIGHTWISH wasnt even at wood stock because they were too GOOD. Oh and metal, whats this shit about "The Four." NIGHTWISH is so GOOD that they blow all other bands away and is the only ONE.
Remember the time The Who rose the sun upon the field at Woodstock? What gods... Geddy Lee couldn't rise a dick in front of 600,000 naked chicks cuz he don't got a working one.
Your welcome clerical12. it appears we have similar interests. John Enwistle would surely smite this being for he, john entwistle, is one of The Four.
John Entwistle? Yeah he was very good, he was my favorite until, well... But now i like Geddy Lee Alot, probably my favorite Bassist. But if thats not who you meant, never mind.
that's pretty cool... but no offense to rush fans - i could do much better, but i don't care about technique: in music, creativity RULES! and this guy is pretty creative. =]
yes, i did; but that was not the point - my point was that i'm sick of dickhead bassists who venerate technique and forget what music really is about. i've been playing bass for nine years, so i think i've experience enough to say that what lee plays is very simple... but who cares? i'd much rather watch him play than some super-fast meathead neanderal.
you think you can do better than Geddy? Well then...(you know what I'm going to say)...PROVE IT! Geddy is an incredible bassist, and saying you can do better just makes you look absolutely ignorant and stupid. I'm not saying your not good, but your going to have to prove a lot to be better than Getty.
well, i'm not aware of the full extent of his skills, but i surely can do better than what he does of this video. anyone who has heartly played bass for a conciderate amount of time can easily reproduce something like that, just ask any experienced bassist. however, my original comment had nothing to do with that - read my reply to andreach12 above.
geddy lee is the most awesome bass player. not a whole lot impressed with les claypool, although he has a unique style of playing. is that still a geddy lee jazz bass? never seen that one before. i wonder what happened to the wal, i looked online for the price just out of curiosity, could not find it anywhere, i hear theyre very expensive.
That is a Geddy Lee bass, just with a black pickgaurd instead of the white one that is more commonly seen. He stopped using the Wal, in an interview he said it didnt have enough low end. And Idont know which bass you were saying was expensive, the Geddy Lee Jazz isnt that much, a Wal though...theyre around $5000 and arent in production as of right now.
it is not a geddy lee jazz, (well his main isnt even a "Geddy Lee Jazz", its a '72 jazz, but im not going into that). Its just another 70's jazz with a tort pickguard. If you mention the gold rod from the bridge to bridge pickup
I mean stop and think for a second. How immeasurably immature does someone have to be to say... "les claypool sucks" or "Stevie Ray Vaughan sucks" or John Entwistle rules the world man". Why is it that every musician in the world has to freaking yap about who the best drummer is? Who the best guitar or bass player is? On and on and on. Or "this guy rules" or "this guy sucks". Man, grow up already and give them all credit. The saddest part is that everybody disses people who have sold millions of records while they're sitting at home being half-assed musicians themselves posting comments about how bad they suck on youtube. Those are dryers. Years ago there was a single old fashioned refrigerator back there. Then the dryers. For the recent tour there are three chicken rotiseree roasters back there.
