  • why did he knock his head?

  • because hes sick

  • ur lame bitch!

  • Yay Rush! I can see how Lee has influenced Claypool.

  • thanks to Rush

  • One of Geddy's influences was John Entwistle. I think Entwistle a lot but I dont think he could sing as well as Geddy or be able to manage bass, lead vocals, keyboard/synth, and foot triggers as well as Geddy does. But Entwitle was better on bass.

  • well put

  • I think Geddy and Entwistle are on a stalemate as bass players alone, they both are super fast and they are both super creative I think Geddy is better because of some little details: one his short bass solo are really fast but they have so much soul into them no one can deny that and the second reason is because Geddy Lee is as fast as John Entwistle without using techniques as tapping and slap bass which for me is really awesome. And yes sometimes he does use slap bass only for sound not speed

  • that's amazing...is there an official name for this song? i need to get the tabs!

  • Driven is the name of the song.

  • if u look at the top it says driven. u wouldnt be a good detective! haha but ya it is awesome

  • nightwish are a shit band, period!

  • nigthwish is some gay finnish band. wtf dude

  • Yeah nightwish are epically shit... that's why they didn't play at Woodstock.

  • Nightwish?! At Woodstock?! Puah!

  • you don't know who the four are?

  • Remember the time The Who rose the sun upon the field at Woodstock? What gods... Geddy Lee couldn't rise a dick in front of 600,000 naked chicks cuz he don't got a working one.

  • Thank you for agreeing metallordofhell. This is complete shit, Entwistle would destroy this girl to peices.

  • Your welcome clerical12. it appears we have similar interests. John Enwistle would surely smite this being for he, john entwistle, is one of The Four.

  • John Entwistle owns this girly voiced fag.

  • I concur. Down with this sort of thing

  • Umm Les Claypool puts them all to rest. No contest.

  • why do you people think geddy lee is better than entwistle? no comparison.

  • thewhofan99 knowns what hes talking about.

  • Geddy Lee and Cliff Burton are Gods on the bass =)

  • dont forget john entwistle

  • o.o....john's way better :s

  • John Entwistle? Yeah he was very good, he was my favorite until, well... But now i like Geddy Lee Alot, probably my favorite Bassist. But if thats not who you meant, never mind.

  • that's pretty cool... but no offense to rush fans - i could do much better, but i don't care about technique: in music, creativity RULES! and this guy is pretty creative. =]

  • Did you seriously just say you can do better than GEDDY LEE??? Wow. You dream really big!!

  • yes, i did; but that was not the point - my point was that i'm sick of dickhead bassists who venerate technique and forget what music really is about. i've been playing bass for nine years, so i think i've experience enough to say that what lee plays is very simple... but who cares? i'd much rather watch him play than some super-fast meathead neanderal.

  • you think you can do better than Geddy? Well then...(you know what I'm going to say)...PROVE IT! Geddy is an incredible bassist, and saying you can do better just makes you look absolutely ignorant and stupid. I'm not saying your not good, but your going to have to prove a lot to be better than Getty.

  • well, i'm not aware of the full extent of his skills, but i surely can do better than what he does of this video. anyone who has heartly played bass for a conciderate amount of time can easily reproduce something like that, just ask any experienced bassist. however, my original comment had nothing to do with that - read my reply to andreach12 above.

  • Geddy's hand technique of plucking the string with his thumb while he uses the other fingers is insane.

  • Yhat's a very common technique in classical guitar playing.

  • Ovey good job little Geddy!

  • geddy lee is the most awesome bass player. not a whole lot impressed with les claypool, although he has a unique style of playing. is that still a geddy lee jazz bass? never seen that one before. i wonder what happened to the wal, i looked online for the price just out of curiosity, could not find it anywhere, i hear theyre very expensive.

  • That is a Geddy Lee bass, just with a black pickgaurd instead of the white one that is more commonly seen. He stopped using the Wal, in an interview he said it didnt have enough low end. And Idont know which bass you were saying was expensive, the Geddy Lee Jazz isnt that much, a Wal though...theyre around $5000 and arent in production as of right now.

  • Sorr it isnt black, my color is off.

  • it is not a geddy lee jazz, (well his main isnt even a "Geddy Lee Jazz", its a '72 jazz, but im not going into that). Its just another 70's jazz with a tort pickguard. If you mention the gold rod from the bridge to bridge pickup

  • who gives a shit who the best is?!? i just wanna rock!!

  • Too true. I get sick of lame-asses who argue about who's better at what.

  • A progressive rock band without a sick bassist is like a tharsh metal band without a guitarist who can shred

  • Lol @ Geddy's signature head tap. That's a fair warning that some serious shit's about to go down. What a great solo!

  • Just look at those fingers! Rush is one great band.

  • I mean stop and think for a second. How immeasurably immature does someone have to be to say... "les claypool sucks" or "Stevie Ray Vaughan sucks" or John Entwistle rules the world man". If you don't like the "style" of a particular player, just say... "I can appreciate what he/she has done but it's not really my personal taste. Because guess what morons, I don't care WHO does ANYTHING... some people will love them and some people will not and that's all there is to it. So shut up and practice!

  • Yeah... Les Claypool doesnt suck but PRIMUS DOES lolololol

  • claypools insane prmus is .....

  • Thanks Crimson. It all gets so ridiculously annoying after playing guitar all these years and reading the same whiny comments from basement or club musicians. I love every single person who plays... if even just for their contribution to the incredible world of music. Every single musician video has the same old crap endlessly streaming about who's the best and who sucks. It's the most childish thing I've ever heard of and I don't understand why so many people do it!!!

  • I didn't know that you could do that with a bass until about 52 seconds ago.

  • Why is it that every musician in the world has to freaking yap about who the best drummer is? Who the best guitar or bass player is? On and on and on. Or "this guy rules" or "this guy sucks". Man, grow up already and give them all credit. The saddest part is that everybody disses people who have sold millions of records while they're sitting at home being half-assed musicians themselves posting comments about how bad they suck on youtube. What a joke.

  • I do believe you make a valid point my friend.

  • I like you. But I also like a lot of other things.

  • 901 comment! geddy lee is awesome!

  • I always considered Geddy the best progressive rock bass player. Seems the most fitting title to me.

  • Best rock bassists ever. John Entwistle, and Larry graham. Entwistle revolutionized bass guitar into a more lead instrument and inspired many players that were mentioned here as favourites, like JPJ, Chris Squire, and even Geddy lee. Larry graham was the founder of slap bass which influenced mark king, flea and victor wooten.

    Enough said.

  • Jaco Pastorius REVOLUTIONALIZED the electric bass guitar into a more lead instrument dude!.Hands Down!!!@whelanbass945!!!.guez!~

  • "best rock bassists ever".... I like jaco too. He's Jazz. And yes he had his own take on bass in many ways, and definitely changed bass guitar as well. But John Entwistle was an influence to many rock bass players in that the bass became a more lead instrument than simply playing the root note of a chord.

  • how can we be talking about great bass players without flea of chili peppers

  • stu hamm or mark king

  • i think geddy is REAL good but your missing one big link to many of the greats at bass, john entwistle.

  • Agreed!

  • are u kidding?!! have u ever tried to play yyz on bass at full tempo?

  • my brother can, yes...

  • ooh, I doubt that...

  • he even used to have a vid but deleted it..idc actually if u believe me

  • but can YOU?

  • no...look i never said geddy was bad, he is awesome i just dont think hes the best

  • i know

  • I agree

    He's amazing

    but I can't say he's the best

  • this makes me question that you have ever actually listened to rush....

  • Well, since were all dropping names, I think I should add a few that you all seem to have neglected to mention:

    Christopher Squire- Yes

    Michael Rutherford- Genesis

    John Paul Jones- Led Zeppelin

    Jon Deacon- Queen

    Sting- The Police

  • Word, JPJ and Squire are so underrated :D

  • nice list

  • flea, wooten ,clarke, marcus, pnut, trujeo( think thats his lastname guy from suicidal), just a few more, and theres a ton more im sure just cant think of anymore atm, but it is all opinion, and they r all greats, oh cant forget jaco, mike watt, and like i said i know theres a ton more. Stanely clarke for me is my fav, he influenced alot of these guys

  • ah! yeah claypool is always compared to burton just because he wanted to try out for metallica but in reality they are soooo different you can't compare them, different style different bass player mentality different personality....anywho GO GEDDY!!!!!!

  • geddy is the best bass player ever.

  • WAW QUE SONIDO WEON QUE SONIDO

  • geddy lee + les claypool + steve harris + sting + victor wooten = bass gods

  • i have no clue how u dont include burton in that at ALL!????

  • deacon too plz xD

  • Atlantis= I totally forgot about Claypool! Another favorite of mine. Im not going to say my opinion about Burton because people would start p.m.sing.

  • It stupid how people think their own opinion is a fact.........like my opinion Steve Harris is the best do to my taste and Geddy their both my faves. Fucking getover the fact that Burton was a great bassist theirs nothing wwrong but saying he was the best is stupid. Anyways hes long gone. RIP

  • I totally agree man. Geddy, Harris, and Claypool

  • i wonder how a band full of bassists would sound like?? i want to see that

  • it exists, the bassist of helloween did a cd or 2

  • GEDDY RULES ALL

  • awesome bass player, but i much prefer my groovy bass lines, stuart zender booyah.

  • i like flea alot and cliff and flea are both my favorite,

  • uhh this isn't 20 years old, it was recorded in 2002. It's 6 years old.

  • lol,the washing machines have always been their trademark !!

  • geddy lee is the canadian chuck norris

  • Geddy lee is the best bass player ever from a musical (pleasant to the ear) standpoint, but Les claypool is the best ever from a technical standpoint. I just dont enjoy primus all that much though...

  • Geddy lee, Cliff Burton, Les Claypool.

My picks for best bass players ever.

    In no particular order.

  • take out cliff and put victor wooten

  • Definitely not.

    That would be... blasphemy...

  • why?

because i dont worship the guy JUST because he died?

hes completely overrated just because he was killed, and hes seen as a god when there are HUNDREDS better than him

  • watch?v=yUL8dEroAY4

    kkthxbai

  • ok a badly distorted bass solo. wow?

    1) i can play everything he does

    2) watch?v=ZHBfRFa5i9w

that guy isnt even FAMOUS, and hes WAYY better

the first minute completely destroys anything burton has ever done

  • It is a twenty year old recording. If the solo was recorded today it would sound even better. And plus youtube's sound compression isn't the best. Oh, and listen to Call of Ktulu, The Four Horsemen, and Orion. That might of convince you of his skill.

  • but itw ont be, because hes dead, so he cant be a god if theres better out there.

ive listened to all those, because i listen to Metallica's first 4 cds a decent amount. to me hes nothing special

  • yeah man thx for defending Cliff he's my hero :)

  • have to agree on victor wooten.

  • victor wooten's supersonic deadnote rabbit sex gets very annoying. cliff burton's melodic innovation does not.

  • melodic what? his solos were under so much horrible distortion you couldnt hear shit

  • Dude, i dont care what bassist you dis, except for Cliff Burton, Cliff was a better bassist than most people will ever be, including you, me, and most of the popular bassists, not because he's faster, but because it's his type of music.

  • ...what?

  • what makes him better?

and i never said anything about speed, because he doesnt even have that.

and what about his type of music?

becuase he played thrash with his fingers hes good? not at all

and because he knew piano and music theory makes him good? no because even college professors know and play it.

he was nothing special. hes your average metal bassist at best. no matter what you say your not changing my opinion. all he is to me is an average bassist, and thats all hes ever gonna be

  • with all due respect good sir. its one thing to be a good musician. its another thing to inspire millions of OTHER musicians to play as good or better then him.

  • yes the kind that scuttle under the floor and you must use use warfarin to eradicate.

  • No one better in Rock than John at Bass

  • If you're talking about Entwistle, then you're right. But Geddy comes right behind John.

  • dude rush is friggin crazy. neil peart and geddy lee. its like a super band! :)

  • Not to mention ALex Lifeson one of the most under rated guitar players. * LONG LIVE RUSH *

  • geddy lee rocks rush is my 2nd fave band, but john entwistle is just a much better bassist. but john entwistle doesnt play synthesizers and sing

  • But waht he doing?!

    He plays faster that's it....

is the most strange sound of bass guitar I've ever heard...

  • mike dirnt is also pretty good

  • Actually....no.

  • Mike Dirnt blows compared to Geddy, Les Claypool, Victor Wooten, and Flea.

  • True but he's still a great bassist i mean have you heard the intro to "No one knows"?

  • dont forget john entwistle

  • Flea is a bit overrated dude, but ya Mike Dirnt pales compared to Geddy, Les and Victor

  • And John Entwhistle!

  • Amazing talent. Not the greatest of all time but he's probably the best one(in rock music) alive right now. Rock on Geddy!

  • This...The best bas player around the world?

Ahaha...No He plays like a guitar! Search: Marcus Miller,Micheal balzary(Fléa),Mark king...

  • Lmfao. Flea? Yeah Right.

  • how is that playing like a guitar???!?!?!?!!!

  • lol sorry he doesnt slap because apparently slap makes a bassist 10 times better.

It is stupid geddy lee to a bassist like flea, different styles.

  • geddy lee, john entwhistle, and stanley clark play so freakin HARD with their right hands...i remember when i first started playing bass and attempting to play like them. bloody, painful blisters were my reward for being a dumbass.

  • i consider those blisters and blood a sign of accomplishment.now if you practiced daily, and for enough time, the scars would probly disappear.and youd be a sick ass bassist.

  • Gotta love Geddy's hair!

  • yess! high five!

  • *high fives you* WOO!!!!!!

  • DUDES i love rush so much .. but randomly i need know the name of this song....

the classical one which goes AH AH AH AH- AH AH AH AH - AH AH AH AH AH AH - its kinda scary ...and its on the xfactor please reply

  • the song is called driven. its off the album test for echo.

  • Geddy lee is the best bass player ..

    Gene simmons suck

  • pickYourBonezOut.. we know that, geddy is a lot more capable, but we all know geddy is the best

  • agreed

  • Geddy Lee and John Entwistle are the best eva!

  • entwhistle does own geddy ... entwhistle owns everyone....

without entwhistle bass players wouldnt be holding the damn thing the way they are now.... but still geddy lee isnt owned bby everyone else..geddys brilliant

  • I agree.....with you, vidvid12.

  • geddy isnt at his best at this ONE!

    People!!!

  • Anybody who hates Geddy Lee should BURN IN HELL!!!!!!!!

  • Guess I'm going to hell. Kidding, love Geddy Lee.

  • Only Geddy can get away with a Bass Solo. Wonderful.

  • Geddy u rule:)

  • whats that song?

  • HEAD TAP FTW!!!!!!!

  • This is one hell of a Bass Solo performed by Geddy Lee

  • katos vaa buneos kyllä joo voi ripouliresika!!!

  • ...What a genuine BAMF!

  • Geddy was Cliff's influence and inspiration.

    Your arguments are now invalid.

  • nice :D

  • en el momento que puse el video estaba desprevenido y con el volumen fuerte... me asuste cuando escuche ese bajo!

GEDDY LEE ES UNO DE LOS MEJORES BAJISTAS DE LA HISTORIA

  • if u think hes the best, u should look up cliff burton. HES A GOD!

  • its all up to opinion really. i think geddy less is god. however i also think that cliff is god. and billy sheehan

  • i would commetn on ur comment but i dont understand that shit ur writing hehe LOL, mexicanos.

  • NO SOY MEXICANO :@

  • LOL

  • LOL I would too...

  • This is probably one of Geddys best bass parts, along with everything on snakes and arrows and feedback, I mean, Geddy is God on the fucking bass!

  • geddy looks like he plucking really hard in his videos for some reason

  • Those are dryers. Years ago there was a single old fashioned refrigerator back there. Then the dryers. For the recent tour there are three chicken rotiseree roasters back there.

  • LOL are those giant washing machines in the background?

  • they are indeed washing machines
