Depressing and stressful to watch at times, but interesting enough to be worth watching. I would recommend it to both mecha fans and non mecha fans, since the story revolves around the people's backgrounds more than the robots. Great anime and manga is really good too :) Totally recommend it to anyone looking for an interesting psychological series!

Kino's Journey and Haibane Renmei come to mind... though nothing is quite like Bokurano.

When it comes to manga the closest thing I can think of is Eden: It's an Endless World!

I don't regret the fact that I've read/seen both the manga and anime. In my opinion, the manga is better, but the anime is also pretty good (<matter of personal opinion)

If you're currently reading the manga, i recommend finishing that off first, even though it's still ongoing.

happens all the time with manga/anime adaptations. usually they make up the ending, so isn't always accurate.

I wouldn't say angsty, and depressing is a bit strong. I think it includes a lot more humanitarian issues, and there is more focus on the consequences giant robot fights have. On a global, environmental and human level, and there is of course a lot of tragedy. I just felt it was a lot deeper than Evangelion, and as a result a lot more believable.

Don't hope that an anime gets liscenced! Then it becomes illegal to torrent it or do anything with it and all we benefit from it is american dubs, which are never better then subs. If it's as good as you say I might have to check it out.

um...99% of licenced anime these days DO have uncut subtitled versions released. So we'd be getting more than just a dub.

And fansubs themselves are still technicly illegal, the companies just usually don't bother with them because they generate more interest in the show (which leads to more people buying the real DVDs, usually).

Well, it has been described to be "Like evangelion, but even MORE depressing and angsty" besides, I've read a lot of the manga (50 chaps) and i can assure you, It IS F*CKED UP
