From what I understand, PM Rudd is working to end the monarchy in Australia. How much taxpayers money needs to go into this debate? They don't even have to pay for the monarchy unless the queen is in Australia.
The Queen's powers are delegated to the GG who serves at 'her pleasure' because when Hollingworth was forced to resign the governemnt had to ask the queen to recind his commission!
Obviously here shes Australia's Queen Elizabeth II.
I hope more people understand that Australia is much better off in its current system and by changing it, you are changing the very Constitution, the very system, the very flag, which has always worked, always kept democracy and what thousands of great Australians died for.

@donniedarko20 That being said, should a country of over 20 million people be over-seen by a Commissioned Officer of a Monarch whos pre-dominant role is reigning in another country? I still think having a Sovereign Prince of Australia is the best solution. The Prince could be crowned by the Queen of Australia but the Prince would own all crown land and we'd swear allegiance to him. Essentially he'd be a super-noble and he would be the recognised Head of State of Australia around the world.

Actually the queen herself is more ceremonial, the governor-general has more powers and is more of our head of state than the queen.
