  • Loved it since I first heard it :)

  • τελειο

  • Brilliant. Still have the single. Young blokes still with braces on with the sort of classic most can't come up with in a lifetime. Sad to see Tim on bass smile so winningly at the end... a genuine rock star dead too soon.

  • This video went viral on Nicaragua

  • thank you ever decided to video this.....really.....i'v heard this 100 times after 24 years...and it still kills....

  • Great song. Awesome band

  • @SuperMaggie08 - Word!

  • one trick ponys.

  • @mirabilo - Yeah? Awesome band and the singer died too soon. Very few songs like this remain from that time period and there is a reason, cos it's so fucking good.

  • one hit wonders.

    Johnny C.

  • I still have the original single on vinyl.

  • ahhh thats how GOD looks like and sounds like... I have to apologize all believers for calling them delusional fuck atheists I love GOD too now :O)

  • One of the best post punk 3 chord thrashes

  • Mr Matt Woodward, Listen to some better music :P

  • RIP SEAN. I know how proud your Mum, Dad and sister were of you. Such a waste of a beautiful young life.

  • ha ha ha

that popped up when I searched for "god" and "my friend"

  • sickkkkk tune! awes. NZ band

  • I love you Matt.

  • It's really all about the kids. Such perfectly beautiful noize. The spirit and energy here is unbelievable. Love this song SO MUCH...

Thanks to my aussie buddy Bigfella for turnin' me on.

  • I did a live sound mixing coarse with the drummer :)

  • This is my all time fav Aussie song from my teen's. AND then I learnt guitar from the... great..MATTY WHITTLE!!! ( Who played drums with GOD..). Yep, that's right. When I was in my 20's I got a term or so of lessonsfrom him. I aint no Jimmi Hendrix but I can tell you that Matty is quite the thinking man/ or women's guitar player...

  • a fucking great song

  • From time to time I come back. I think it's enough to describe how I feel about these youngsters who probablly dind't know to live, but "fukkunly" knew how to play & sing!!!

  • awesome N.Z band n awesome song

  • holy fuck singers got braces and has the most powerful voice. amazing

  • Hoss are playing at Meredith this year!

  • great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • PBS 1990-Radios a bitch but word gets around- You cant believe anything is private about a radio show no matter how intimate it is with it's audiences-one night at hard,n,fast with 3? floors of pogo show that out of complete strangers..

"ONCE WE WERE SCUM NOW WE ARE GOD!"- Poster not just for bong shop windows.Send off the TOTE?There are 90 years of a century of hospitality to go-see what replaces the old.Melbourne bands suck? There are more than around yet to be!Immature? What rules?Bye.

  • That song is simply amazing.

  • they're awesome

  • I like Violent Soho's cover of this song

  • @doodlin17 hell yeah! saw them play it at homebake

  • I found this vinyl single in Geneva for 2 Euros just recently and I gave it to my hosts in Switzerland because it is truly an essential and amazing piece of Aussie rock n roll and it was a shame it sat in a shop and not in someone's collection. I already have it (3 times) so having a 4th was just getting selfish. This song should be Australia's national anthem.

  • Great song!

Melbourne bands suck??? what a knob

  • They're just great and too young to die! Damned i!

  • fuck melbourne bands suck

  • sounds like it was written by a twelve year old

  • not 12, 17.

  • great song, perfect way to finish off the tote with as well. a death in the family do a powerful cover of this song.

  • Wow, the singer sounds exactly like Pete Searcy from the band Squirrel Bait!

  • @allanross999 I was thought this myself on first hearing this 7"!

  • The GOD 2CD reissue is out on Afterburn, through Missing Link Records.

  • This is hard too type, but I miss Tim and his cheeky as smile (which can be caught near the end of this clip;-) before he knocked out arrogant men twice his size ;-P He was like a thug seeking missile in ya pocket ;-P

    R.I.P Tim and Sean.

  • this songs on the underbelly series 1

  • AMAZING

  • I still listen to this every single day. Immortal stuff. One of Australia's Greatest bands.

  • Classic example is that all you need for a great rock song is three minutes and four precocious Australian teenagers

  • That doesn't work these days

  • Absolutely mind blowing version of this was done at the final night of The Tote. Joel Silbesher got up on stage with The Drones. Not a dry eye in the house apparently!

  • I got chills just hearing you say that.

  • To be a party-head, is something i could never do,

I dont like no one, except for you,

youre my only friend, you dont even like me.

Come over to my house, i got a plan for you,

your not gonna come, but i want you to,

youre my only friend, you dont even like me.

  • What a fuckin voice for a 17 year old!!

  • Tell me about it. I have this song on a 7", each time I hear this song...I miss how good music really was.

  • @kieran9093 i fucken kno

  • We miss you Tim. R.I.P

  • Miss Sean too R.I.P.

  • best time o my loife.

  • What a classic. Ahhh St. Kilda in the late 80's early 90's.....great times.

  • Hell yeah, lifes been shite since....

  • Brilliant song! You have some great videos. Brings back loads of memories.

  • This is a great song. Personally, I prefer it to the Magic Dirt cover...Why cant I find anymore GOD tracks on youtube?- looking foreward to that reissue..

  • A GOD 2CD reissue is in the works, keep an eye on the GOD myspace for details - /godaustralia

  • dog- my pal

  • nice telecaster there!

  • wonderful song people

  • I was looking for the magic dirt cover but this is pretty much just as good. I like both for different reasons.

  • magic dirt cover? awesome!

  • can u download a copy of the magic dirt cover anywhere?

  • where do u get the magic dirt cover from?

  • Don't know if this helps as you may already know this, but the Magic Dirt cover is on the Idiot Box soundtrack from 96/97. And it's definitely worth a listen. Several listens in fact.

  • That's the one. Sorry, dont check my youtube stuff often enough.

  • Yeah, that whole soundtrack is awesome.

    television addict!!

  • never heard of this band but they sound awsome :)

  • Joel Silbersher (sp?) was the singer and last I heard he is alive and well. I believe Tim was the bass player.

  • I heard on RRR once that the lead singer was called Joel. Had the single. Bought it at Missing link. In 92 I traded it for REM 88 fan club soingle at Au Go Go. REM is worth more but I wish I still had it.

  • You're my only friend, and you don't even like me.

    Fucking radical..

    RIP Hemensley and Greenway...

  • Yeah Tim died, OD. Sad ending to an Aussie music legend.

  • i love this song, love that he has braces. the lil scamp

  • One of my favourite singles of all time!

  • fucking amazing

  • The late great Tim Hemensley in full flight as a lad, What a song and surely one of Australia's best punk acts ever.

  • tim turned eshays?

  • he meants as a young person ya dumb cunt

  • This song is so fucking good. i looked to find it for years and finally got it off a compilation. And the singer has a fantastic voice for what looks like a dude who's about 17.

  • You got great taste fella. totally agree.

  • Tim was about 16 in this clip.. but yes.. what a voice for such a young fella.

  • I just can't speak highly enough of this song. The epiphany of Australian punk right here folks.

  • Gibson ES335/Marshall stack combo... Sounds like it.

  • I see so Tim Hemensley, went on to join bored. Hence me loving the song within 10 seconds. Then to the Powder monkeys. Time to listen to some Powder Monkeys i gather.

  • I'm in love with this song.

  • And is that a Gibson ES335 that maniac guitarist is wielding?

  • I must have listened to this 50 times already. My new fav by a fucking mile.

  • OMFG how did I ever miss this. speechless.

  • This says yes to me straight away... what a start..

  • I saw God play at the Prince Of Wales in 89 or 90 supporting either Mudhoney or I Spit On your Gravy, can't remember which, all I recall is that the place was packed and so fuckin hot I could hardly breathe. I thought they sucked but I was later a big fan of Bored and the Powder Monkeys..good days, hard to believe it was almost 20 years ago.

  • easy and awsome

  • great song, bought it around 20 years ago in a small record shop in berlin - we covered the song with our band.

  • great song

  • I have this on a single.....still love it!!!

  • i remember this song from when i was a toddler being played on video hits or rage or something in the 90's. Its still awesome

  • aw shit

Im dying of the fucking kicking riff and nostalgia and all

  • And by the way, the God-My Pal link by the right here is much better audio quality, and a skate vid that actually does the song a drop-kick

  • also great is the cover by BUM.

  • so fucking brilliant

  • this song, russel morris the real thing, easybeats, i love being australian

  • It is available on "Tales from the Australian Underground" . An expensive way to buy on song. But the double album is full of great songs.

  • woah......

  • does somebody have the mp3 of GOD's mypal, cause I tried to find the record here in Belguim without succes. and it would be nice if I can listen this song all day long.

  • i first heard this song on underbelly..pretty good

  • I remember this song, had forgotten it was GOD. Somehow I got to thinking it was a Yank song. Pretty damn good.

  • pretty damn good????

    fucking brilliant!!!

  • This song was used on the 80's Aussie skate video 'Ramp Riot'.

    I love this.

  • fucking sensational

  • two of the band members died from a heroin over dose

  • Exactly 18 months apart too. Very sad. I loved this song and it has been covered many times since. It used to get flogged on Triple J.

  • best australian song ever!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great song. It's timeless.

    Any other words are pointless...

This song should be on Tony Hawk pro skater game...

  • they seemed to disappear into the ether after this, mind you that Joel had a band called Hoss afterwards, did he not?

  • Oh yes, I remember Hoss.

  • And Hoss featured on the idiot box soundtrack where magic dirt cover this song. The whole things comes full circle!

  • Australian music rocks!

  • Awesome song! I think everyone was still in high school at this time.

  • great song

  • quiet alex lol damn u u got me hooked on this song
