Brilliant. Still have the single. Young blokes still with braces on with the sort of classic most can't come up with in a lifetime. Sad to see Tim on bass smile so winningly at the end... a genuine rock star dead too soon.
@mirabilo - Yeah? Awesome band and the singer died too soon. Very few songs like this remain from that time period and there is a reason, cos it's so fucking good.
This is my all time fav Aussie song from my teen's. AND then I learnt guitar from the... great..MATTY WHITTLE!!! ( Who played drums with GOD..). Yep, that's right. When I was in my 20's I got a term or so of lessonsfrom him. I aint no Jimmi Hendrix but I can tell you that Matty is quite the thinking man/ or women's guitar player...
From time to time I come back. I think it's enough to describe how I feel about these youngsters who probablly dind't know to live, but "fukkunly" knew how to play & sing!!!
PBS 1990-Radios a bitch but word gets around- You cant believe anything is private about a radio show no matter how intimate it is with it's audiences-one night at hard,n,fast with 3? floors of pogo show that out of complete strangers..
"ONCE WE WERE SCUM NOW WE ARE GOD!"- Poster not just for bong shop windows.Send off the TOTE?There are 90 years of a century of hospitality to go-see what replaces the old.Melbourne bands suck? There are more than around yet to be!Immature? What rules?Bye.
I found this vinyl single in Geneva for 2 Euros just recently and I gave it to my hosts in Switzerland because it is truly an essential and amazing piece of Aussie rock n roll and it was a shame it sat in a shop and not in someone's collection. I already have it (3 times) so having a 4th was just getting selfish. This song should be Australia's national anthem.
This is hard too type, but I miss Tim and his cheeky as smile (which can be caught near the end of this clip;-) before he knocked out arrogant men twice his size ;-P He was like a thug seeking missile in ya pocket ;-P
Absolutely mind blowing version of this was done at the final night of The Tote. Joel Silbesher got up on stage with The Drones. Not a dry eye in the house apparently!
This is a great song. Personally, I prefer it to the Magic Dirt cover...Why cant I find anymore GOD tracks on youtube?- looking foreward to that reissue..
Don't know if this helps as you may already know this, but the Magic Dirt cover is on the Idiot Box soundtrack from 96/97. And it's definitely worth a listen. Several listens in fact.
I heard on RRR once that the lead singer was called Joel. Had the single. Bought it at Missing link. In 92 I traded it for REM 88 fan club soingle at Au Go Go. REM is worth more but I wish I still had it.
This song is so fucking good. i looked to find it for years and finally got it off a compilation. And the singer has a fantastic voice for what looks like a dude who's about 17.
I see so Tim Hemensley, went on to join bored. Hence me loving the song within 10 seconds. Then to the Powder monkeys. Time to listen to some Powder Monkeys i gather.
I saw God play at the Prince Of Wales in 89 or 90 supporting either Mudhoney or I Spit On your Gravy, can't remember which, all I recall is that the place was packed and so fuckin hot I could hardly breathe. I thought they sucked but I was later a big fan of Bored and the Powder Monkeys..good days, hard to believe it was almost 20 years ago.
does somebody have the mp3 of GOD's mypal, cause I tried to find the record here in Belguim without succes. and it would be nice if I can listen this song all day long.
Loved it since I first heard it :)
