At least they made 2 seasons of Rome ... its better 2 amazing series than 5 good series.. all the old school characters were dying out who cares about Octavian Caesars buddies we cared about Julius caesar, Antony, Pullo and Vorenius, Attia.

The acting is just terrible, the special effects and combat look cheap, amateurish and lacklustre as does the 'tacked on' nudity. @fappercino Whaaaaaaaaattttt!!! And thats why Spartacus had more viewers than Rome. Spartacus keeps the viewer interested with EVERY single episode unlike most shows. I actually liked Rome but it was lacking in the raw intensity department. Very little to no blood and the battles were short and lackluster. I even remember in one episode they skipped a major battle with only a few scenes, Now whats a series about Rome without the glorious battles and violent gladiator fights.

more viewers do not correlate with better quality. Spartacus was all stylised á la 300, the sets were mostly CGI, the characters weren't believable, it's main appeal was the sex & violence which got old really fast IMHO.

@zerker12568901 and Doperwtje81-Don't get me wrong, Rome was a good show better than Game of Thrones,Camelot,and the rest of the shit out these days ( except Borgias-also cool). However, Spartacus has the complete package including character development, politics, interesting storyline,and yes sex & violence. To evaluate a show, one must take into account all aspects that make it great and i cant point out any flaws with Spartacus. The same cant be said about Rome-could of been better.

I absolutely love this show. I recommend watching Spartacus: Blood & Sand and then Spartacus: Gods of the Arena.

It is heavily influenced from HBO's Rome. It helps fill the void.

HBO had made the final decision to stop after season 2 right before the show got really really big really really fast. Such a shame - a HUGE market has arisen over the past 7-10 years for this kind of "revisiting of culture" in the Greek and Roman worlds. Thankfully, there is talk of a movie in the works that will be written by Bruno Heller. I hope it happens because they're going to bring Vorenus back in an alternate story line! LOVE Kevin McKidd! Perfection in casting for that character!

Was the greatest series I have ever watched since Bernard Cornwalls Sharpe.. The characters were great 'Mark Antony, Titus Pullo and Atia were probably my favorite....in the mood to stick put my dvd player on and watch them again now :-)

Rome was an extremely good series....It felt like I was watching an ancient soap opera. All your emotions were into play. I've got both seasons on DVD and can't get enough of it!!!!! Shame on cancelling such a great series...SHAME!!!!

I might add that HBO's Rome is the most accurate historical propagation I have ever seen, we pro historian could learn a lot from that. History teaching in this century is TV-series like Rome and games like the RTW Mod Europa barbarorum.
