  • Crack. Boom. Bam.

  • This vid went viral on Amsterdam

  • This video is popular on Saint Vincent and the Grenadines

  • What you see, and hear, four times in this video -- a golf ball being struck by the center of the center of the sweet spot of the club face -- is something I achieve maybe once in 50 strokes (because sooner or later, even a 24 handicapper like me is going to do it by accident). The thrill of doing so is enough to make me go through the next 49 bad shots in pursuit of experiencing that feeling again.

  • Did you notice, he picked them clean off the ground, no divot.

  • @1tontomato that's because its a 4 iron, not too big of a need to take a divot.

  • @Jordeezyj he's a picker not a digger, he never takes much of a divot

    bacon strips not pork chops

  • arms too raised at the top of the swing, but works for him.

  • I have to agree with all the comments. TW is one of the most amazing champions and swings of the golf club of all time. He will go down as one of the greats , along with the others on a list that really isn't that large. Snead, Hogan, Nicklaus, Woods, Nelson, ect. I also agree, he just loves to hit balls. His love for the game is as deep as anybody alive. I think if he stays healthy he could still win on the Big Tour. A true Legand , young kids should study his great swing. Its classic.

  • I could watch this guy hit balls all day. One of my favourite players and swings of all time... I didn't even grow up seeing Watson in his prime. Still amazes me today, you are a LEGEND Tom.

  • No divot ?

  • D'accord. Tom's near-win of the Brit Open at AGE 59 is a far greater feat than many major golf victories by younger men. And did you see his incredible play in dreadful weather in the 2011 Open? ...Plus, he took 3rd in the Senior Brit Open just a couple weeks later. My hero! I saw him play in the LA Open at Riviera in early '81....he was the best in the world then. And after one of his rounds he put in HOURS at the range. Classiest guy on the tour. And one of the hardest working.

  • Picking the ball perfectly clean. Doesn't look like the grass is even ruffled.

  • my dad works for tom watson!

  • @haloforger11

    Seriously? Doing what?

  • Same swing and sound every time

  • I can watch this all day. I love the sound of FLUSH.

  • @thevmanvj

So weird...I keep coming back here periodically for exactly the same reason. Try dialing up (on YT) "Nicklaus 13th hole" and "Nicklaus 14th hole" (both at the Masters) for the same thing.

  • KUDOS to you Tom...can you inspire other SENIORS like ARNIE has(Prostate Awareness)in VISION awareness..."macular degeneration(AMD). AMD has now surpassed Prostate cancer in volumetric numbers(Novartis.com). A silent and embarassing anomaly, please help BOOMERS/SENIORS in "prevention"

    Good golfing TOM...the best 2011

  • possibly one of the top 5 ball strikers of all time..

  • is it just me or does he have a real armsy swing? still nice though

  • ANYONE ELSE GET THE IMPRESSION THIS GUY JUST LOVES HITTIN THE BALL...IS THAT NOT PART OF "THE SECRET".....

    ZEN IDIOT

  • You can still hear that compression but it amazes how he seldom takes a divot when you watch him play. I get to see him this weekend at Sahalee in Seattle.

  • That was really nice camera mate, well done.

  • What club is he using?? Seems very steep.. Am having swing issues after playing really well and its depressing.. I love the game, but its more fun scoring badly with a good swing than good with a slice or hook.. Booohoo....

  • @ollycopter

I totally agree with you there mate. I hate playing a round of golf having to play my slice or hook even if I curve the ball in there where it needs to go.

  • @theRAMowns Its a real weakness in my game.. the mental aspect.. If I hit greens in regulation I am over the moon.. Its okay to three putt from there.. I expect to... lol. My best rounds have been when I play with others following me.. I find it easier when people distract me from too much thinking..

  • @ollycopter i aint lying when i tell you my best rounds have come when ive had a few beers to take the edge off-obviously not getting hammered if you expect to score at all, but can have enough to just stop caring where the ball goes-- stay thirsty my friend

  • @Madisonrvr

I've seen that happen more times than I can remember. If you're at the right level of tipsy, you stop attaching yourself to results and just play like a kid again, and it's incredible what you can do in that state of mind. No overthinking, either.

  • I have been watching and playing golf for over 45 years and I have come to the conclusion that the best players keep centered over the golf ball...this means staying inside a box and Tom Watson exemplifies that control. And even as odd as Lee Trevino's swing looked, it is still about minimizing sway!!

  • you are right. the most consistant strikers don't sway.

  • beautiful....

  • Mr. Automatic is doing it again, this time the 2010 Masters. He fired a 5 under 67(Day 1) and is the leader in the club house, as of 2:30 pm et....Is this guy at age 60 phenominal or what?!!

  • Look at how there is no divot.

  • Tom always takes it very clean reason is a lot of folks never pick up on is he never gets a very late hit .He gets less lag than most players even in the old days with the big leg action he had he never got that much.

  • that is why i dont think too much of today's younger players

  • Watson is one of my fav player...2nd swing off the toe, 3rd of the heel..4th was solid

  • i love it how he splits the trees all four times

  • power fade

  • Mr. Automatic!!

  • @pat52007 BAH he cheats! lol :)

  • Tom Watson has one of the greatest swings I have ever seen. Notice how he keep his head directly over the ball through-out the swing and his outstanding balance!! Those two things plus excellent rythmn produces accurate solidly struck golf shots.

  • He's not sweeping the ball as much as you might think. No he is not taking a divot.. Looks like he's hitting about a four iron...Little if any divot is needed for mid to long irons. With all iron shots it is still a decending blow.

  • Also, you can see it's off good turf. No need to hit sharply down there even with a short iron. It's really the lie (inc. the quality of the turf) that determines how steep you need to get.

  • emncaity, exactly right; the quality of lie and turf have a lot to do with it!!

  • Looks like he is hitting big cuts between the trees?

  • He's sweeping the ball off the ground. Obviously practicing for the fairway bunkers.

  • love how he sweeps the ball of of the ground, i used to do that, but it was harder to control the spin. Stil a great guy!

  • I have felt for the last 10 years that golf was lacking something, and couldn't quite figure what it was. Have played for 40+ years, and been a fan of the PGA for all those years. Watching the tour the last 10 years has become less and less enjoyable, and like I said - couldn't put my finger on it. Until now. The game has lost the sportmans ship that people like Watson brought to it, and given way to the 'you the man' mentality of today. Watching Watson was the most fun I've had in 10 years

  • Couldn't agree more. You must've been loving the last few months.

  • emncaity; yes I loved the fact that a 59 year old man was showing the young guys how to play links golf at the British Open. Even though he came in second, I consider it one of the greatest sports achievements of all time!! To play that great at age 59 is un-matched!!

  • @pat52007 I agree with you on that. I also liked how he came in 8th the other day in Dubai on the European Tour and showed all the young guys how it is done. Something great about seeing a legend still able to compete with the best in the world.

  • He played at Dubai? Must've got some appearance money. Good for him.

  • @pat52007 agreed. unbelievable stuff.

  • A last hurrah would have been so sweet for Tom Watson. It's truly remarkable that his golf game and nerves held up for 71 holes. The playoff with Stewart Cink, one of the world's top players was like throwing Old Tom to the wolves. He was running on empty and the dream was over before the 4 hole playoff began. His place in history, with 5 British Open Championships, 2 Masters and a US Open, will forever secure his place as one of the 10 best PGA professionals to ever play the game.

  • i could watch him hit golf balls all day

  • what Tom Watson said in the post match interview was as big as his play on the course. I felt like i was seeing the greatest sportsman of all time. In defeat and dissapointment the mans true characture was revield. the putting stroke on the 18th didn't even look like the one he used for the other 71 holes and it was as if he was not meant to win by some higher power.. i know that sounds crazy but it just fell apart in a most peculiar way. I am a huge Tom Watson fan.

  • What a champion. Turnberry 09 will live long in the memory.

  • Tom, you are class personified. You laid it out and gave 110% and basically outplayed the greatest golfers in the world. I can't believe (or maybe I can) at age 59 you have the same swing. Understanding golf and how one shot could and usually does cost you a great deal that doesn't hide the fact that you held the attention of the world for 4 days and didn't disappoint. Your might have missed on 18 but for me you just posted an eagle in the class scorecard.

  • bet he's gettin a lot of sleep

  • Thanks for a great ride Tom. You're an inspiration to so many people. For anyone out there thinking "its too late" or "I can't" just take a look at this man.Of course he has the major champion pedigree, great career behind him etc. But can you imagine this happening in any other sport? One of the greatest performances in golf and possibly sporting history- it can be a cruel game sometimes but with respect to Stewart Cink who is a deserving champion, I will always remember it as Tom's tournament

  • Stewart blew it by not recognizing the golden moment for what it was or could have become Stewart should have let Tom Wason walk the last 125 yards towards the green by himself while he stayed behind ... maybe even did the get on his knees and bow to Tom as a gesture of respect ... and echo the sentiments all of us were feeling. .

  • Agreed this championship will never be forgotten because of Tom

  • Mr Waston, You gave us something genuine to root for in what would have otherwise been a boring ass snooze fest of a tournmanent since Tiger was home watching Teletubbies with his little ones. You're still the 2009 Champion in my book because of what you did. Thanks!.

  • Tom Watson played with a lot of heart, a true champion. As for Tiger, Teletubbies sounds about right. He's still the man though.

  • how the hell do u hit 180 yards with a 9 iron lmao he's a legend

  • Its called having a 20mph wind at your back. The 9 would have been the right club to get on but he went for it and i give him credit for that. I thought it was a great shot and cringed went it went off the green. But he wasnt the only one that happened to.

  • Disrespectful arseholes.. Tom's a true golfing hero!

  • fucking gutted for you Tom

  • Yeah, Same here.

  • He lost game, but still king of golf ! !

    Thank you Tom Watson!!!!!!!!!

  • Tom had such a great chance to put it away...he laid an egg with that putt on 18.

  • i got his autograph 3days agoo :)

    turnberry open

  • congratulations from Scotland :D nice one Tom, one of the greatest sporting achievements ever!!!!

  • he ain't much.....NOT! Good luck Sunday.

  • talk about rapid fire

  • he golfed at the country club i caddy at today, if i had got there half an hour earlier i would've caddied for him.

  • A proper caddy would have told him to use the 9 iron on 18!!!!

  • Bruce Edwards would have told Tom to hit the 9...

  • He's a stud

  • Make it sound like that, and you'll be alright.

  • I heard he picks it clean, barely ever a divot..i guess it's true

  • i always was disappointed i picked it clean, not taking a divot like a 'real' golfer!. maybe that was okay, afterall. watson had a classic golf swing.

  • Looks like he's fading the ball between the trees.....pretty cool shot.

  • Hang on a minute, what? 2008? no way. What a natural... Golfing genius. He obviously just has a body that was made for Golf. I'm 36 and my back is in bits, have a bad left wrist and a dodgy neck... It's just not fair... BallyBunion's finest eh Tom. Keep beatin em Tom you're a plesure to watch.

    P.S.

One of my favorite DVD's is the 1977 Open Championship, remember that one Tom. For those who dont, get it its a classic.

  • He got his first hint of half an inch of gut about three or four years ago. Until then, he was still in the kind of shape he was in high school (when he had some skills as a fit athlete). Only slightly less so now. I sort of hate him.

I got to see him in person a couple of times when he was in his 40s, and he was absolutely striping it--better ballstriker then than when he was #1 in the world. If he could still wedge & putt like he used to, they could just rename it the Watson Tour.

  • He's the best!

  • It never changes. Easy really!
