La musique noire pillée par les blancs, sans elle l'Amérique et l'Angleterre ne serait pas ce qu'elles sont musicalement ,c'est à dire les meilleurs!!!(ce n'est pas un black qui met ce commentaire!!!)
Thanks to upload this dong. I did'nt know the original . I was thinking ,it was the kingsmen
It was a black man, like all the grat songs of popular original American music
Saw the name of "Berry, as a writer so maby times" thought it was Chuck Berry
God bless "Rythm and blues" original black music. The cover by the bands of early psychadelic English Band was great too. Thanks. Excuse for Faults. I'm French
@jessegguitar I know it isn't but there are loads of covers of this song and they're all amazing because it's such a well written versatile song, that's what I meant :)
Well I think all versions are good. With The Kingsmen version I heard it was banned from being played because the indistinct lyrics might be harbouring something obscene- which is how Britain was in those far off times. Even to the extent of banning Leader of the Pack by the Shangri Las because it was what was called a "death disc"

@babyEroose Your an idiot if you didn't know modern music was all influenced by blacks. All music these days is covers, remakes, or remixes of blues music.
@Critic0L #1 not an idiot, and #2 you shouldnt make general sweeping comments b/c then you sound like an idiot. I'm black and I know that as for some genres this is the case but not all of modern music has solely black American influences. My comment was that I didn't know a black man did this song first, not that I had complete ignorance of the impact of black Americans on American pop music. I think plenty of ppl didnt know about this version.
@babyEroose #1 Everybody is an idiot. #2 You're like one of those people that listens to Gym Class Heroes - Cupid's Chokehold and says "I love the chorus of this song." Then I say, "Oh you like Supertramp?" and they say, "Who's Supertramp?" People have forgotten that a long time ago people used to write their own songs instead of just taking someone else's. People need to understand where the music they enjoy is coming from. You may like the artist less or you may like them more.
Louie Louie has been covered by 26 artists that I know of. That's why Richard Berry is the man and 26 other bands are part of a large societal stigma.
@Critic0L you make way too many assumptions. You have no idea at all what type of music I listen to or my knowledge of music past & present. Judging from a lot of the comments here I am not the only 1 who didnt know that this song was a remake. And I suppose only you know about every original version of music that comes out & have never known a song only to find out its a remake/sampled? The irony of your comment is that ppl back then didnt write their own stuff remember they took it from blacks
@BroMleY1976 Contin...One thing I have been thinking of, is that there is no violence in US, as far as I know, connected to sport events vs European soccer games. Here people, well Sweden is not the worst, but on the European continent it can actually be dangerous if you come to wrong place watching a soccer game. I have visited UK a couple of times and there fans, the hard core, are crazy and violent. I am talking about team soccer games, not country vs country. Music is much better. ;O)
@BroMleY1976 Hahaha. Great finish of your comment. Well, I have visited US six times, as I have relatives spread out in sveral states, MN, CA, Nebraska, Alaska, Texas and some other state. And also a bunch of friends in US. So I have watched at least one baseball game i Minnesota back in 2006. It was Minnesota Twins(right name?) vs...well, another team. Still have the "Twin City" cap. It was actually fascinating and Tom, my couisins husband tried tell me the rules. Zero stuck to my mind. LOL.
Okay, now I have the original and Kingsmen's on youtube. Of course I had them both before on vinyl. But it is actually one of the few black originals some white boys do a better version IMHO i.e. beef it up. LOL
@DickAllen4HOF According to the album I have - the discograpy is compiled by Jim Dawson and Ray Topping and those guys use to know what the write, you have Richard Berry (vocal), Plas Johnson (tenor sax), Jewel Grant (Baritone sax), Ernie Freeman (Piano), Irving Ashby (guitar)?, Red Callender (bass), Ray Martinez (drums), John Anderson (trumpet). The Pharaohs; Gloria Jones (vocal), Godoy Colbert (1st tenor), Stanley Henderson (2nd tenor), Noel Collins (baritone).
@DickAllen4HOF Continue...Still according to Dawson and Topping it was recorded in Los Angeles, April 1956 but not released until early 1957 (Flip records). "...actually the B-side" says Berry. It sold about 130,000 copies, not bad for for an independent release with little distribution. Anyway, we have over 300 versions having sold in the neighborhood og 100 million copies. Okay, none is fool proof and they can be wrong and you right. And you are right that I never heard about Arthur Lee Maye.
@DickAllen4HOF Contin...bvious reasons why I never heard his name: If you are talking about baseball (or American Foolball) you have about zero of that in Sweden. I am not interested of sport I have not competed in. But those I have is another ball game (no pun intended). Greco-Roman wrestling for example. I was no star but best friend in my teens with Frank Andersson (he also did some wrestling in US). Among titles he won: World champion (WC) gold, 1977, 79, 82.
@DickAllen4HOF Contin...and Bronze in the 1984 Olympic Games. Also European Games gold winner 1976, 78, 79 and 1981. So that must make me a star too. Hahahahahahaha. Anyway, thank you very much vidapunk for this one...and you too Dick Allen! ;O)
They probably copied his work because he was black you know how fucked up racism was back then I'm sure segregation rules applied to copyrights for black artists racism is fucking stupid
@Sauron767 Richard Berry sold his copywright as the songwriter for $750-00. A cover was a race based marketing decision to have an established White artist copy a Black song. A re-make is an artist making their own version of a song. Blacks often re-did Black songs and even White songs (The Crew Cuts originally recorded Earth Angel). R&R opened White acceptance of Black artists. The Kingsmen re-did Louie Louie 8-years after its writing. Music is not the possession of any one race.
I'm thinking the movie dreamgirls with beyonce knowles I THINK. I know there was a movie like that that was like in the 50-60's where a black group was like making some song, they published it, then a few weeks later or days or months or so a white band was playing a song like that or used somethings the black group had thought up of i'm like WHAT?
This is by far the best version. I used to hear it on KRLA the oldest rock station in Los Angeles. Huggie Boy & Art Laboe played it at night & were the only ones who did. I listened to that station on my old early 1950's table top RCA Victor stereo & it sounded nicely. The dial lite up nicely. It's too bad the station changed formats to talk about ten years ago. It's been since before that time that I've heard this song. Thanks for putting it up on You Tube.
@Fairport70 I think what they meant was with so many versions, this is an especially good one. Also, original does not necessarily equal best, in a lot of cases.

"Louie Louie" is an American rock 'n' roll song written by Richard Berry in 1955.
It has become a standard in pop and rock, with hundreds of versions recorded by different artists.
A recording by The Kingsmen in 1963 is the best-known version.
