As a 21 year old dude, growing up listening to my dad's tapes of Styx, Foreigner, Boston, The Cars, Heart, and Journey I still have to say the group that most influenced me was Styx. How I wish I was raised in this golden era of rock.
I'm 14 and my first concert ever was STYX back in 2004(I think that year!) STYX was my all-time favorite group growing up and hearing all these songs bring back memories from when I was 5 years old and having a crush on Tommy Shaw from the group lmao
@kayleegifford10 I saw them last summer, man classically beautiful. Can't wait til the next one! P.S. I'm 18, and my first concert was REO speedwagon in 2002.
There are two kinds of fools. The first kind says ''This is old and therefore, good.'' The second kind says ''This is new and therefore, better.'' I say, this is Styx and therefore, suck it.
My first experience of hearing this classic was on 8 track in the summer of 1983. Then a neighbor gave me his vinyl copy and wore out the LP. Then over a year later, my oldest sister squashed my copy by sitting on it accidentally. Two days later, I got this classic on cassette tape after going to visit Santa Claus at the mall. Made a beeline to Musicsmith and there it was. My father paid $7 for the tape and I wore it out. Then I've gone through countless copies of this classic (I'm 35 now).
I remember my mom being a huge Styx fan. We would listen to our copy of the "Best Of" album in our car, singing at the top of our lungs. She would tell me about her "Paradise Theatre" album from when she was a teen and I would yearn to listen to it. It was my 8th or 9th birthday and she handed me a small square package. I opened it up greedily and there was my very own cassette of "Paradise Theatre". I got so excited that I ran out of energy and took a nap nearly all day.
I remember just staring at the album art and being completely mystified. Then, one day, we left the tape in the car and it was really hot out. The tape warped and I couldn't listen to it anymore. I was devastated. Mom said she would try to get me a new one, but the first one was really hard to find, anyway. She never did find one, and she ended up passing away when I was 11. Just a couple months ago, I was at a yard sale and found a copy of "Paradise Theatre".
Tonight's the night we'll make history, honey, you and I cuz I'll take any risk to tie back the hands of time and stay with you here tonight. I know you feel these are the worst of times, I do believe it's true. When people lock their doors and hide inside. Rumor has it it's the end of Paradise. But I know, if the world just passed us by, baby I know, i wouldn't have to cry, no, no. THE BEST OF TIMES are when I'm alone with you. Some rain some shine, we'll make this a world for two.
Now hang on a second here...I see no reason...at all ...to be callin -who ever DID hit the dis-like butten --a ass hole or a dip shit.....
Lackinkg in taste maybe....maybe a real young man ...who has no idea what a classic this is ....or he--she--,may not even be aware who the band called Styxs IS even ..
And to who ever DID hit that butten,,,,its my honest hope that you ..give the music a chance ..
Wow, a bunch of idiots arguing politics. Republicans and Democrats are mostly the same. Both have spent way too much on their "intrests." Democrats buy votes from the poor while not really doing anything to advance them. Republicans buy votes from the rich by cutting tax more than they do for the middle class. No difference between the 2 besides who the pay off to get votes. We are getting screwed and all you can see is the Repubs and Dems side. THE SAME SIDE! Vote libertarian, communist whatev
@Megaarrowshot As for heath care, Obama blew it fooling around with that when he should have been putting people back to work. He also appeases Reps. Not that we do not need some reform, we do. As far as Reagan-Bush doing a "good Job" you apparently don't remember the demise of the Savings & Loans and the troubles the RTC had in recovering on the bad loans, Junk Bonds, Leveraged By-outs, Milken, Keating, etc. --all caused by the Republican orgy of deregulation. I hate their guts, all of them!
How can you dislike this song? It's one of the BEST songs from the 80's and the band Styx. They were the best of times even if we did not know it back then...
The 80's were indeed a decade of lies. Mr. Reagan told us we would not pile debt upon debt for the convenience of the present to the determent of the future. But this is just what he, his Republican cohorts and successors did. Most of the debt the Republicans whine about now was caused by them! The American People are now poised to give them full control again. I see a depression which will make 1931 look like a Sunday School Picnic!
@LeChevalierNoir4474 Don't talk debt, Obama has spent 800 BILLION already and now is pushing for a new one (don't remember off the top-o'-me-head), Now he has cut about 900 billion in tax, so right now we are looking and EXTREME deficit spending, don't get me started on Health-care _I'm a doctor_ I usually consider myself a independent because I believe in some R and some D but right now I just want that guy OUT. As for the depression I would not compare it to the Great Depression, tat's silly
@Megaarrowshot $800 Bill?! Ronnie baby-$1.3 trillion with tax breaks to the rich. Daddy Bush-- another $1.5 Trillion and Dubya$6 Trillion. Don't compare to a depression?! In the 1930's unemployment was 20%. In California 13% and some places, 15%--i've been on this world for nearly seven decades and have never seen anything like this-not in 57, not in 74, not in 81, not in 89-ever! Unlike most of you I do not have a short memory. the Republicans are liars on everything and NO DAMN GOOD!
Styx had some AWESOME hits. Best of Times, Too Much Time on My Hands, Come Sail Away, and my favorite of them all the unforgettable Mr. Roboto! Thank you guys for making great music.
thank the beatles for this one, as this definitely has their influence shown throughout. and then naturally styx being the awesome band they are made it their own!
This was my old HS girlfriend and my song-really takes me back. Styx was incredible-not just one great vocalist, but two. Not a lot of bands can make that claim, but they were so much more.
