  • Thank you :)

  • I'm a somewhat advanced beginner knitter and I still learn something from this when I look at this almost a year later. This is definetly a keeper.

  • Can you make some more videos please and thank you!!!!

  • I got it until 3: 26

  • Look at my next video "Mrs Moskowitz's Knits part 2". You need to know Knit and purl before you select a pattern.

  • hello I'm VERY VERY new to knitting, The lady I got my equipment from, she just told me to keep doing stitiches without a pattern. i've just started & i think i got the knitting stitches down, but haven't yet done a Purl. When do I do a purl and doi need a pattern to do so. I also noticed that my tail is at the front of the needle, is that bad?

    Thanks, Tasha

  • I just love knitting..

  • Hi Mrs. Moskowitz. I was wondering what brand and type of yarn you are using. I haven't been able to find a yarn quite as thick as the one you are using for demonstration. Thank you!

  • Dear Mrs Moskowitz,

Thank you. I just wish you could check/critique my knitting. You definitely inspire me to stick with it.

  • I need serious help!!! I started out with thirty stitches and I did a couple of rows and I continued to have thirty stitches and then, out of no where, I counted again, and I had 32 stitches. I figured it was no big deal, until two rows later, I had 35 stitches, do you have any idea what I'm doing wrong? Can you tell me how to fix this?

  • Awesome vid. If you are a newbie knitter like me there is some great content at at ebeginnersknitting (.) com

  • Thank you, this video helped me very much! This is so fun :)

  • thank you soo much

  • thanks u have really inspired me in learning knitting....keep up the good stuff:)

  • thanks u have really inspired me in learning knitting....keep up the good stuff:)

  • Thanks to your excellent demonstration, I finally learned how to use a knit stitch, and have successfully knitted four rows! They aren't all that great looking, but I'm confident I will progress with practice! Thanks so much for taking the time to do this!

  • I have a really long tail, what should I do with it now that I'm ready to start doing the knit stitch?

  • Thanks, Mrs. Moskowitz! You taught me how to knit! Excellent video, very easy to understand, and you're a great teacher! Thanks again.

  • This video is simple, effective and very hands on! I learned more from watching this 5 min video than I have from reading and rereading my knitting "How To" books I bought to get started. I searched for a woman to teach me how to Cast On for months, having no grandparents myself, and the books didn't detail how to do it. This video was a big help! I've watched up to the third video, on a practice piece I started. I am finally ready to start a scarf on my own! Soon I'll be knitting mohawk hats!

  • theres a easyer why too

  • i just bought my yarn 2 weeks ago starting with one i bought from the 99 cent store for practice.......... since i got it you cant believe how many u tube video's i;ve watched ...... this one by far really helped me great close up and explanation... i just finished my 2 row yay 4 me!!!!!!!!!!! ( p.s. i am a very NEW BIGINNER......... THANK YOU

  • You rock, Mrs. Moskowitz!!!! Now I understand....especially about the tug at the end. That was driving me crazy. THX~

  • hi!

The video was really helpful. My friend and I finally started knitting and this video was a great help. Thank You!

But, I can't understand what you meant by turning my knitting 180 degrees to go on with my 2nd row. Please explain it more.

  • @super13momome

Turning your knitting means that when you finish knitting the row> you are ready to start the next row. If you are knitting another row (garter stitch) then you knit again but if you are making a stockinette stitch then you turn the needle and ready to purl. It might help to watch my 2nd video Mrs. Moskowitz's Knits part II.

  • I'm a beginner and your video makes no sense. It's completely different than the last video I saw which was much easier. I don't understand why yours is so difficult but I can't even tell which end of the thread goes where because you cut out a critical section between :49 seconds and :50 seconds.

  • hi MrsMoskowitz,

i am having trouble in knitting my (first) scarf....i dont know how tight to pull my yarn when i "throw" it over my needle.when i pull it a little bit tight, i cant fit the needle through the loop when i get to the next row.if i let it to loose then i just end up with a hole in my scarf. Also somtimes i accidently miss a stitch causing the width to change in a very noticable way.how can i fix it without having to start all over?!Please Help!!!!

  • @mjgranchester

To answer your question. It takes practice to figure out your "tension"-tightness. You don't want to have it too tight or too loose. I recommend watching my video again.

Your extra stitches are because you are putting the needle into the wrong place and then you create an extra stitch so watch the video again very carefully. I know you can do it. It just takes practice. I hope you are using size 10 needles or larger since it is easier to learn on larger needles.

  • hi MrsMoskowitz,

  • When I make the last few stitches of theknit row, they are really loose and they don't appear as uniform as all of my previous stitches. What causes this? I have been practicing for days with no improvement. Any tips?

  • hello, i am trying to learn how to knit and i am very confused with all this. I have casted off, and am trying to do the other needle but i have no idea how i dont understand. I see what you are doing but it doesnt work myself ill try again

  • @zeusfavedaughter

Hi, I think this is happening because when you did your cast on those stitches might have been loose. The last stitch is often loose so just try pulling down on the part you already knitted. I hope this helps.

  • Thank the Lord that this woman is alive. I'm trying to knit coasted for my family, and I had this book, but it doesent help at all. THANK YOU!!!!!! Now I can finally make coasters for my family!!! Yay! :D

  • Wow!! You are a great teacher! Thanks for posting these! I'm just starting to learn and I am so appreciative of these videos!! Thank you!

  • wow this is so awesome!!!! I thought it would be like so complicated

  • helps but it completely backwards to me

  • Finally! I tried other tutorials and Mrs. Moskowitz was the one to teach me to knit! Thank you

    Mrs. Moskowitz :)

  • Yay! I can't believe I am creating something!

  • i definately dont get it.... mine didnt look like yours :'( i can get the first stich onto the right needle but after that, i think it looks messed up

  • @ilovemysunshine09 me either....but try try and try again! I'm going to :)

  • Thank you! That is the clearest explanation I've seen yet.

  • you're good

     thanks

  • hello thanks for this wonderful video but plz help i really cant understand how to keep on knitting i mean how in 180 degrees? thanx

  • Comment removed

  • you may also find the book "Knitting for Dummies" useful. it contains step-by-step how-to instructions for knitting techniques. it uses easier-to-follow photos and illustrations, demonstrates basic knitting stitches and shows how to decipher patterns and work with multiple colors. It also explains how to fix common knitting mistakes and relax stiff shoulders and fingers.

So, is it okay if I also made a knot at the end when I actually finish, and then weave?

thanks, you are so much help!

  • oh..

    okay thanks...

I just keep on thinking that if I were to cut it, it may unravel. I'm new at knitting, so for some reason I think that weaving it wouldnt be very secure. I keep on wanting to tie a knot just in case, because I dont want my project to unravel!!

  • thank you sooo much!!

I am knitting a scarf right now, but I just dont know what to do with the tail that I made in the beginning, and I cant find any videos on it!!

  • its so hard! i've been trying forever, it keeps falling off the needle :(

  • I can't believe I did it.........

  • I thought you needed ten cast on stitches.....

  • it all depends on your pattern. if a scarf pattern calls for 10 cast on stitches, you do ten but say a hair band calls for 4...yeah

I'm proud to say "I've join your knitting team." I've recommended your video to my friends who know how to crochet. I myself love to crochet. I have been doing it since I was 14 years old. I would like to see more of your classes on YouTube.

  • Thank you, Mrs. Moskowitz! Going slowly, repeating and actually narrating what you are doing finally helped me to cast on! (with a little added help from the pause button). Thanks again! Mwah!

  • Thank you very much for posting this video. I have wanted to learn how to knit for a while now, so I got a book on how to knit, but all it did was confuse me. I like how in your video you show exactly how to do each part. It makes it so much easier to understand. I just learned how to cast on and i am still working on how to do the next part, I've already had to restart a few times, but I'll get it figured out eventually. Thank you for posting this video.

  • Awesome job. I already know how to cast on and knit and purl but I still watched because it is a great job. I love the coloring that you used and the big needles so everything could be seen so well. You explained it nice and slow. Thank you.

  • what do we do with the knot?

  • To make a long story short, my mother was running out of things to do since she's done some wonderful changes in her personal life. She was looking for something to occupy her time, and for Christmas she got some knitting supplies. I ran across your video for her and it helped her out a lot and got her excited about learning how to knit. Thank You!

  • i finally got it thank you so much

  • mrs moskowitz can you show how you hold the yarn because i am getting confused

  • Hi,

Sorry you are getting confused. I recommend watching the "knit" video again. I have heard from other people that the video was helpful. You might need to hold the yarn as you watch the video a few times. Hope this helps.

  • I've tried books, and looked at other videos, but none were slow enough or clear enough for a true beginner.Yours was perfect--extremely basic! I just learned to cast on with you. Your large needles and blue yarn make it easy to follow, and your nice relaxed voice was like a real-life lesson. Thank you!

  • i've been looking for a youtube video series to suggest to people who want to learn. now i have one to recommend and learn from myself. thanks!

  • Hi EvaApples,

Thank you so much for your recommendation.

There will be a new video uploaded around Jan. 1.

  • Your video is wonderful. It's the only video that I was actually able to learn from [and easily, too]. Thank you. ^^

I have one question, though. I'm trying to knit a basic one-color scarf and every row or so an extra stitch appears. I cast-on forty and now I have fifty. What did I do and how do I fix it? Or, at least, keep it from happening anymore?

    Thank you. ^^

    ~Miyu

  • i find it helps to count the number of stitches after every row, so that i catch mistakes earlier.

also personally i slip the last stitch instead of knitting it, coz sometimes it'll make it seem like there's 2 threads there not one, and u stitch through it twice.

  • thank you for helping out people like me who are hopeless without visual instructions!

  • I've been trying to learn to knit for a couple of days now and this is the most helpful video I've found. Thank you sooo much.

  • thanx you helped my mom alot!!!

  • Thanks so much for making this. I'm currently on bedrest for the rest of my pregnancy and this will definitely help keep me occupied. I've also wanted to learn how to knit, but never had the time. Now, I've got plenty of time on my hands. I got my hubby to get the stuff for me today and can't wait to get started on it!

  • thank you so, so much! my knitting book left me confounded, but the way you teach is very comprehensible =)

  • Thanks so much!! This is very helpful!! :D

  • thanks this was very helpful

  • i love you MrsMoskowitz!!!

  • My mom has learned a lot from your video! I am using her account for this and she is working on a granny square thanks to your video! But I have a question, can you make more basic stuff because she uses your videos as her main guide. She has even gotten me into it!

  • grrr. Im trying but I keep having to start over when i drop stitches. Hehe. Best video though =)

  • Best knitting video by far!!! All the other videos confused me! Thanx Mrs.Moskowitz

  • omg..i love this video.. thank you very much you helped me alot.. onto the second part!!!!

  • thank you sooo very much you have helped alot...
